I was a big fan of this place years ago when I lived in the neighborhood, and, recently, needing some parts for an older bike, I decided to cross town and see if they could help. The parts department was fast and knowledgable. I left the store with the right parts--no guesswork--for about what I would have paid at the cheapest site online. They make it easy to support local businesses!

I've bought several bikes here over the years, and they were always competitive, knowledgeable, friendly - great all-around service. My daughter had her bike stolen, and they retrieved the records from 15 years ago so we could report the serial number. Would purchase from there again, but live too far away now.

Hate to leave a subpar review to a LBS, but I feel that it's justified.
TL;DR: They made mistakes while working on my bike, were defensive about it, but ultimately reached a resolution.
I took my bike in for a single rear brake bleed since it had not been done in 4.5 years. They advised right away that I should replace my pads, but I declined because a $40 sinlge brake bleed was more expensive than I expected. Brake pad replacement labor is part of that $40, but they did not communicate that to me.
After picking up the bike, there were 4 new issues that were not there when I dropped the bike off: mineral oil all under the brake hood, the brake hood was severely stretched to the point of needing to be replaced, the plastic cover under the lever was very loose, and my rear pad(s) and rotor were contaminated - lacking power and being very noisy.
I brought my bike back in and communicated these 4 complaints. The guy I first interacted with was understandably skeptical at first, but I could not get my point across to him and he got a little too defensive of their work, asking me how they could have contaminated my brakes - there's so many ways to easily contaminate pads and rotors when doing a brake bleed.
Finally, the manager, Will (iirc) was much more receptive and gave me the partial refund that I requested since they did the work, but did an unprofessional job. I'm be hesitant to go there again, but could give it another shot.

From picking out a new bike to upgrading an old favorite, Valencia Cyclery has been there for me over and over. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. A great place to find a bike, get a tune up or do some upgrading.
