Good place to let your dog stretch their legs and use the bathroom after leaving the airport (there isn't a convenient pet area in the international terminal). There's a small fenced-in doggy park, doggy bags, and picnic benches.

I have a very bad experience during my transit at SFO airport. I had 3 dogs in crates and no one wanted to help me to transport the dogs from customs to United Cargo building. I had to pay some employee at airport $40 just to help me to push the carts to next building. My PetSafe portal never worked and didn't recognize any tracking numbers. When I called costumer service, they said hat there is a glitch and there is nothing they can do. I emailed all the information to PetSafe in advance but no one ever responded. When I arrived to United Cargo in SFO they asked for all documents again and it took them almost 2 hours to fill out the forms, I almost missed my flight. My dogs were covered a p*** and pee, no one walked or fed them during the 33 hour flights with transits. I paid almost $2,000 for transporting my dogs and this was the worst experience of my life. The employees were poorly trained and had no idea what they were doing. I will never use United PetSafe again.

I feel a lot of the bad reviews on here are from people who didn't read the instructions and packet from United. I will mention that I did only pick up at SFO so can't speak to the drop off process. I had no issues with their Petsafe program. Just moved my 60lb Rhodesian Ridgeback from Honolulu to San Fran. Drop off in Honolulu took about 10 minutes. Pick up at SFO took about 5 minutes. No issues at all and everyone was helpful. A quote from a professional pet moving company was $800 more than I paid. Yes you need to have all the documentation they mention and be sure you fit their guidelines, but their information provided on their website makes all this very clear and leaves little to question. Would definitely choose them again in the future to transport my pets.

I have used United for years but now that they have "changed" it's terrible. I have been sitting here freezing for over an hour. The staff wasn't here when I arrived then they made me wait then tried to deny the carrier which was formally approved. I was here for nearly 2 hours. It SUCKS. Use Delta.

MY GAWD. They were so disorganized while processing my dog; I was genuinely nervous that he was gonna get shipped off to some random destination. Just a heads up: You have to submit your pets health certificate, a pic of them as well as a pic of their carrier, plus fill out online paperwork a MINIMUM of five days prior to them flying (sayyyy if you happen to have a deadline you're trying to meet or want them on the same flight like I did). You fire all that off to the email you're provided once the reservation is made and you get a confirmation email, m'kay? Well despite doing all of that, I had to fill out the same paperwork all over again and then some. Then I'm asked for a printed picture of my dog. Hunh? I didn't have that. Why would I since I already provided them with it through their required reservation email. Ya know, the reservation email I had sent everything to five days earlier (handed them the confirmation email). No where is it mentioned on the website and email that I needed to bring a printed picture of my pet since it's apparently required to be taped to the carrier. Cue Peggy rushing me to take him out of his carrier to take a pic of my *male dog, TSA examined him & the carrier, I emailed his picture again, they then had to print the picture and tape it to the carrier - their attitude sucked the entire time. Be there AT LEAST two hours before you're supposed to check in. It took an hour and a half to check my dachshund in despite filling out all the pre-flight required paperwork. Then Peggy kept stating my pet was a female cat. Come ON. You JUST had me drag him out of his carrier to take a picture of him. You were the one that held a PRINTED PICTURE OF MY CANINE and taped it to his carrier! I had to correct her multiple times because the amount of disorganization going on was ridiculous. I had recently undergone major surgery where I've been cut from hip to hip & from my sternum down to that hip incision; I was four weeks post op at the time and could barely stand upright for long periods of time. After having to repeat myself multiple times and the amount of time it was taking, the limits of my pain medication were definitely being tested. Standing was becoming a challenge plus my travel companion and I still needed to get to our terminals; time was getting very short and the molasses pace of the employees was killing me. Peggy made a comment that I was acting nervous. Are you serious? OF COURSE I'm nervous at this point! Y'all misplaced paperwork, taking an hour and a half to process my fur baby, gave me attitude, kept misdescribing my 22lbs male dog a female cat so NOW I'm concerned if he's gonna be listed on the cargo manifest correctly.... so am I nervous? You bet your A$$ I was! Never received a confirmation stub that he made it onto my flight (Alaska gives you a ticket stub letting you know that your pet made it on board). I asked the flight attendant and she never got back to me ... Simply put ...the experience was total garbage. Be prepared for untrained customer service representatives running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Pop a Xanax and get comfortable.
