We are EXTREMELY dissatisfied and would HIGHLY discourage anyone from having an investment account with Union Banc Investment Services! During the current pandemic, our clients nonprofit was in need of access to the funds in their investment account. The funds were available to access and NOT tied up in a short or long term account. Over two dozen phone calls and countless emails have been made over the past two months, however, Union Banc Investment Services has given us the runaround and are dragging their feet. Union Banc has provided every obstacle possible. They are sitting on our nonprofits money and we have YET to receive the funds. Union Banc is not doing their part to help their community businesses during this time and has proven they do not care. We HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you go anyplace else!

The bank is in the "Grand Old Lady of California Street", which was the third designated San Francisco landmark. The stone building, which was built after 1906 is majestic with it columns and large windows. The interior is open with ample use of stone/marble, and beautiful ceilings and cornices. I came to open an account and was assisted by Brent, who was friendly and efficient in setting up my account. He provided all the documentation for my records and the information that I needed to set-up my online access. In talking to Brent about the beauty of this bank, he mentioned that I could visit the museum in the basement that has displays on the history of the Bank and the building. The Bank of California museum is down the stairs on the left of the entrance, is open the public and the admission is free. The museum is small and you should be able to browse the displays in full in about 20-30 minutes. It provides a look into the history of the Bank of California and its role in the development of the Western United States. I had a good experience with the opening of my account and had a nice museum tour afterwards.

DO NOT BANK HERE. They're absolutely incompetent and you risk losing your money by banking here. My family has banked here for over 30 years and I'm getting the runaround. Spare yourself the many many many LONG and infuriating phone calls, anxiety, and anger that comes along with this bank.

On August 31, My family and I took a trip out of town. After traveling a few hours we finally checked into our hotel. My direct deposit had entered my account on Aug 31st as scheduled. I decided to switch majority of my available balance to another Union Bank account. This money would cover our Hotel room, Food, and Gas. The next Morning I take my children to a restaurant to purchase brunch. Unfortunately my card was declined. We had no choice but to leave our food. This was completely humiliating. Immediately I logged on to Union Bank website to find my account depleted. I called on 09/02/17 at 12:43 Pm, and reached a customer service representative who was of no help. I was told that Union Bank decided to switch my Money back to the original account, and I would not have access to my money until Tuesday Sept 5th because of the holiday! What took secs for them to move, I would not be able to access until 4 days later! I was transferred to multiple individuals who refused to help me! I stayed on the phone for 2 hour, 12 min, and 9 secs crying, begging, pleading for my money to be returned. Numerous times I explained I was out of town without a $0.00 to my name. Union Bank removed everything in my account. I had no way of covering the hotel. I could not purchase any food to feed my children, and I have no way of returning home without the money returned to my account. The last supervisor I spoke with name Shanique stated, "Unfortunately you have to wait". I let her know My children can not wait to eat. We will have to sleep in our car because we have no money to pay for the hotel cost. It is 110 degrees in Palm Springs. We will die in our car. I pleaded for a Provisional Credit. It was not until the 2nd phone call that she claims I was denied for a provisional credit. I asked why? She could not give me an explanation as of why. I asked to speak to her Superior and I was denied. She refused to call. I asked for the number or info to Corporate. Shanique claims we do not have a Corporate. I asked what is her solution to help this Horrendous situation? Her Solution was for me to ask a friend or to call a Family Member. At this point I am Devastated. My hard earned money was moved against my permission. I have been a Customer with Union Bank for over 10 Years. As a loyal customer they were of no help and showed a major lack of concern. This has been the worst customer service I have ever received. This event has turned into a NIGHTMARE. My kids are traumatized. For children not eat for 2 days is Unacceptable, Intolerable, Unbearable. My children cried uncontrollably and I had no solution. This Union Bank experience was very demoralizing, scarring, and Repugnant. The measures we had to take just to make it home was dreadful. No one should ever have to experience such Trauma. I am not sure if it is Legal to move an individuals money without permission. I moved my Money to another account for a reason. If fees on any transaction hit my opposite account, I could always switch the exact amount over. That is the purpose of having the ability to transfer money. No ones money should ever be moved and placed on hold for days without permission.

i'm not a union bank customer, but my husband has been for over 15 years. i presented a check from his account for $12,450 to obtain a cashier's check to pay off a motorcycle loan. union bank then called his bank and also called him to confirm the check and available funds, however, because the check was made out to me, union bank refused to make the cashier's check out to the entity I needed to show on the check. I come back a day later with the check reflecting the name I needed the casher's check made out to and they would not issue me a casher's check because my husband wasn't present. un-f**king-real! FAIL! customer service: FAIL knowledge: FAIL helpfulness: FAIL understanding concerns/needs: FAIL in every measurable way, this bank fails. if you keep your money in your mattress, I think you'd be better off. avoid this bank!

Really this branch has no concept of customer service. My story - I received a bill for a safe deposit box which I had cancelled by letter. Got a call to say cannot close the account because of an open balance. This 'open balance' is for a date beginning next week through the following year. Their explanation is ' once an invoice is created it cannot be cancelled'. Really what happened to customer service?????? Stay away from this bank

I want to keep this informative and not let any emotion color this review. I was disappointed after having a substantial 1st (in dollars - not debt to equity) refinanced here through a very good broker and to find out that bi-monthly payments are not an option. Over a 15 year loan, that's about $64K in accrued equity out the window. Even with that, I wanted my equity line at the same place, given Chase now had the equity and I didn't want warring entities should I want to do something with the property. I paid off less than 10K in outstanding at Chase and was told I shouldn't have done that - then the guy I was working with was fired and nobody picked up his loans in process - I started over with people who hadn't a clue - I had to follow up with them constantly - was given bad information - and FINALLY got a loan- really 5 months - they own the first - over 800 FICA and less than 40% debt to equity on the house and more liquid assets than total value let alone debt. Went to a branch close to my home since my wife also needed to sign and was told by a very helpful person that the rate that was in the work papers (as opposed to the loan because they offer several discounts off the loan rate but since they may change - like you don't keep a checking account with a minimum balance - it could change) was too low by .25% and someone would be contacting me. Nobody did and then I got a letter 4 months later bumping the rate by .50%. Their attitude has been - tough! It's not in the base rate and we're already giving you .25% off. The very nice person in the local branch won't even admit to the "customer advocacy" group that she saw the processing papers at .75% off - just backed away. NEVER EVER do business with these folks. OH - the most beautiful! and wasteful! use of space at the financial district office. If you are in the neighborhood you MUST walk in to see this BEAUTIFUL space. You will be awestruck! And if you talk to the staff, it might blow you away also - clue impaired!

Normally I don't plug businesses, but I have got to say for a big bank Union Bank has the best customer service and protection services. So much so I've been with them for decades. My card was compromised sometime within the last 2 days. And it wasn't your typical card compromise scenario, whoever was running this card theft ring was very smart in how try and to commit fraud via online sites. Union Bank was able to catch it and tried to contact me (I missed the call) and went a head and froze everything. I hate waiting for a new card but feel so blessed that I have such a great bank. I realize other banks catch fraud, but I doubt any of them make it as painless as UB does.

I'm more dissolutioned than before - this is the WORST bank to have to deal with. They are impossible and not good at all about explaining their practices. They also have an insane requirement that if you don't call them every so often (even if there is nothing to do, such as re a fixed-term CD) that they will consider the account "inactive" which can initiate escheat-to-the-state proceedings. Ridiculous.

I don't know what has happen to this bank in the last year but there is zero fraud protection (I had more with B of A!), horrible customer service and they are pulling that illegal trick of paying out small withdrawals before large withdrawals that came later to charge more overdraft fees. I think B of A lost that lawsuit. They even sent me a new card after the Target hack last year only to give my new card number to another online merchant without my permission. The girl wouldn't close my account on the phone so I have to waste my time going into a branch. Don't even waste your time with Union Bank

Mitsubishi owns this bank. Bank with a US company or your local credit unions! Go local. I only did this research after the bank started charging me fees and kept putting holds on my checks.

This review is meant for Union Bank Corporate, not any one individual branch. Very tired of the run-around I had been receiving for the past 20+ years with Wells Fargo and Bank of America, I moved my business and personal accounts to Union Bank in 2009. Jumping forward to Jan 2013, I noticed on my statement that I was being charged for "excessive transactions". Turns out Union Bank changed my account terms without my knowledge effective Jan 2013. Now I am only allowed 50 total transactions per month. Every transaction over the the threshold is charged $.40 each. Since this is my business, I average more than 200 transactions per month. Needless to say I was livid. Union, we were very happy together. Now that you have cheated on me I cannot forgive you. There are better banks out there for me that will treat me with respect. I am leaving your greedy, cheating A$$.

Do you know there is a museum inside Union Bank? Well-I took pics of the interior of this historic bank and also, it's exquisite architecture.

If anyone wonders how the economy got to its present state, then please try to open an online account with this bank. My phone experiences: 1. No one makes notes of your conversations; 2. The "new accounts" department has no knowledge or understanding of applying online; 3. The "online" department has no understanding of what is required to open a "new" account; 4. Apparently because they don't understand their online system, EVERY representative directs you to "go to a branch" to do your business; 5. Every telephone representative sounds rushed and quickly ushers you off the phone. The facts: I have a huge jumbo mortgage with this bank, but a bank representative advises that to get online access you must have a savings or checking account. To "save time" I applied for a free checking account online, but complications arose from attempting to transfer in the required $100 initial deposit from another institution. This has led to multiple calls with the "new accounts" department, who then invariably transfer me to the "online department" who then cannot give access to the account as it has not yet been formally established and a separate code has to be mailed. Then an unknown representative leaves a message to call back to the 1-800 number "regarding your account and please use case # XXXXX". When you call back, the answering representative states "I don't know what to do with that number, what is your account number?". When she finally accesses the account with your name, she will say she cannot help but that you "need to go to a branch to make your deposit". Along every step of the way, you are asked to repeat the same information as well as repeat what you have done to date. Even so, this is inevariablyy met with silence or questions that reflect that the person (depending on their department) has no idea of either the requirements (1) online new account applicaitons or (2) online access. This is a fun process if you have absolutely nothing else to do in your life. Three weeks after applying online and still no access: obviously a trip to a branch is in my future.

I was briefly a customer years ago when, through a series of unfortunate mergers and corporate takeovers, my small bank checking account landed here. The less said about big bank retail service the better. But holy f$@k what a building! A gold rush era palace with fifty foot ceilings. If you want your money kept in grand style, here it is. You could taxi a small airplane in the lobby, take off, and land safely again without anyone noticing. They don't have thermostats, they send up a weather balloon to check the air currents. As they are fond of telling you this is the bank that built California for real, not that package service with the funny horses and buggy. Today I deposited twenty bucks to a friend's checking account and the teller could not have been sweeter or more efficient. First class.
