This location of Topdrawer - as well as the one on Valencia Street in SF is outstanding. The young people running the shop are knowledgeable, kind, very helpful and they make it a joy to be there. Found fantastic reading glasses from the excellent line of Kolo Glasses they carry. Beautiful papers and watercolor books too. I highly recommend checking this wonderful store out!

I came in looking for a holiday gift centered around “travel essentials.” This surprisingly isn’t a kit they have pre-made, but Kristian (not sure of spelling!) was super helpful in pointing out popular “travel” options. On one of the busiest days in their store, she went above and beyond to help me choose gifts in my budget, wrapped them one by one, and made conversation while doing it! She was awesome, and I’ll be recommending Topdrawer to friends looking for “nomad” essentials. :)

Man, what a place! Here you can find awesome stuff, from notebooks, wallets, sunglasses, pen, slippers, etc etc.All top notch quality. I believe most of the stuff is Japanese so ??Special mention to the sake glasses that are made by a local artist.

Amazing place! It's described as a stationary store but in reality it's so much more than that. There are quality notebooks, many imported. All the notebooks have samples that are usable with all the sample pens. The paper is quality as there is no bleed through with the fountain pens, most of which are Kaweco. The notebook paper includes Clairefontaine, amongst others. There are brush pens and mechanical pencils and erasers, not to mention the Polaroid cameras and film, wallets, markers, slippers, water bottles, straws, and so many other things. The staff are so nice, and have a genuine passion for the product. They're able to discuss the ins and outs of the products and make recommendations. I recommend.

Some cute stuff, but watch out. They do tacky marketing cons, almost got me for $10. For example, I bought a bunch of pencils that were a great deal, but at the register, they were no longer a dollar each, they were 2.29! When I asked her, if they were a dollar, she said oh yes, and immediate pressed the discount button and charged me 1.15 for them. Yes, I bought a $37 canteen there. But, the whole thing felt gross, and as nice as the lady was, she was participating in a con. I'm not sure who owns this place, but it's not someone with scruples. It's gross and unethical. It's not how America works. They said they would not change the sign and had no intention to change it. It was out of their control.

This store is a dream to browse and find stationary and fun useful things to add to your life that are stylish, practical, efficient and helpful. I've gotten some of my favorite pens, gifts for people, sock slippers, a tote and gear here. Somehow the organization is very soothing and it's just pleasant to be in the store, maybe because I was born in Japan and it makes me think I am back in a shop in Tokyo. I almost never miss a visit here if I am on Union Street for any reason be it brunch, happy hour, a salon visit or even co-working.
