Good hotel but really a lot of homeless people around. May feel a bit unsafe. But I guess that's San Francisco. The 25usd per day fnb given to the guest with a few other freebies like free tram tickets etc. are great and certainly added to a memorable stay. The staff here are great BTW and the concierge team is excellent.

I landed here at 2 PM and hotel staff is casual at servicing customers . Which hotel in world has 4 PM checkin time ? And they refuse to hand over the room before that ? As if all rooms will be ready at exactly at 4 ???And this happening to you post a 16 hours flight - but guess hotel staff does not care . Gone days of good customer sevice. Good luck if you are staying at this hotel.Crossing fingers - if room is as bad as service , my next 3 nights are screwed.

To be honest, I've had so many horrible San Francisco hotel experiences. I kind of forgot. There were actually nice hotels until this day. He was incredibly affordable under $200 a night right at Union square across the street from the Christmas tree and ice skating! Everything is a real throwback to a beautiful time. Marble doorways and bronze elevator doors. Unbelievable decorations and beautiful apartment style. Hotel rooms. All exceptionally well kept and maintained. Nothing is run down even though it's such a beautiful older gem!

Beautiful hotel (beautifully decorated lobby), Central location, rooms were clean, beds were comfy! The cable car stops directly in front of the hotel, which is convenient, but it is usually crowded before the hotel stop. I was becoming a bit worried prior to my arrival after reading some of the reviews regarding the “homeless” population and about the area being “sketchy.” We never felt unsafe in the area, even walking around after dark. There was a decent police presence all throughout the day and night. Jeff @ the concierge desk was extremely helpful in getting us acquainted with what to see/do/eat in the area and outside of the area! If I ever return to SF I will definitely stay at this hotel !

Our favorite place to stay when in San Francisco. Close to everything. Beautiful views of Union Square. A stunning historical hotel. The front desk and entire staff are always great. Bailey checked us in and was so friendly. We had a beautiful junior suite. Amazing. We highly recommend you join Westin St Francis historian Howard Mutz for the historical tour he leads. What a lovely man who is so entertaining, giving you all the history of the hotel and showing you parts you otherwise would never see. We love this hotel and always look forward to our next visit.

Been working 15Hrs straight, and came back to the hotel unable to open the door, because the lock battery died. Took a good 30minutes to go through the front desk, security and technician to get it fixed. No apologies and compensation were offered. After getting in the room, found a poorly made bed, unwashed towels and empty tea bags and water bottles. As if I only paid for the first night, so no basic services would be provided for the rest of the stay. How in the world would they consider themselves as a 4 star hotel, and charge such a high price with such a low quality services. Highly unrecommended.

Great spot to stay! Everyone at the hotel were very helpful. Valet parking is a bit pricey - $75 a night. But it is safe & the staff are always quick to get your vehicle. The rooms are lovely, great views and a cool elevator on the outside of the building! The breakfast buffet is wonderful, great food options, and very attentive and helpful staff! The lobby was beautifully and extensively decorated for Halloween!! A wonderful stay here!

I’m giving this place five stars but I feel like I stayed in two different hotels during my stay. Part of it was in the older, historic section of the hotel while the other part of my stay was in the new tower. The older rooms aren’t bad, but they suffer from the same problems that all historic hotel rooms do: paper thin walls. And also that they’re relatively small. I also wound up in a room that was right next to one of the elevator banks. I can sleep through anything, so it didn’t bother me, but just be aware that some of the rooms can be pretty noisy if you’re a light sleeper. The more modern rooms I have no complaints about. Our room was spacious, well furnished, and the rest of our stay was top notch. The staff were fantastic as well. Definitely a good visit and I would recommend staying here.Rooms: I’d recommend rooms in the newer tower section.Safety: It can be a little sketchy after dark.Walkability: Lots of sights and things to see nearby including the cable car which runs right out front.

The staff went above and beyond during our stay. I was on a diet and was just able to eat chicken and vegetables. I went to the front desk and spoke with a manager and asked him for a good place to go to eat on my diet. He asked what room I was in and said he would have dinner delivered in 30 minutes. Exactly 30 minutes later room service was at my door with 2 5oz chicken breast and vegetables carrots and green beans. This is what service is, going the extra mile to make someone feel special by doing something as little as this. The maid was friendly and we chatted every morning on our way to breakfast. Thanks for making us feel important and for the room with an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Coit Tower. Amazing!!Walkability: In the heart of the city can walk everywhere.

I stayed 6 nights for a conference here. This is a classic, 100+ year old hotel right on Union Square that displays wonderful timeless features and styling from lobby spaces to a small private wine tasting room and wide hallways. There are some interesting historical displays around the first floor that discuss famous guests, food etc. Staff were excellent. The rooms were quite small but decently furnished. The wifi was fine although seemed to need daily logins. There was a large waterfall shower head but placing it in a narrow bathtub meant that there was no space to move. One thing I did like about my room was that the window was fully shaded from the sun, yet it was bright, overlooked the square and the window opening to let in the cool breeze.Coffee and pasta bar was chic ($6-9 for coffee, $25+ for pasta dish) and had reasonable opening hours.Close to a variety of diners and restaurants both up and down Powell and along Geary. Immediate area around the hotel felt ok.

Historical building over 110 years old. The lobby has the monumental wow factor. Quite grandeur and the appeal of being the best hotel in San Francisco enhances your stay. Each time you walk in the lobby you can smell the light but fresh aromatic sweet fragrance they release in the vents. Pamper yourself and use the valet, you will enjoy it! Enjoyed the room service. The rooms were spacious and clean, however it is dated. As a Marriott member, it definitely needs updating to maintain the “Marriott Standard”. The location is centralized to all of the shopping downtown, Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf, Restaurants, Chinatown, Passport renewal. All walking distance from the hotel. Coming from Sacramento escaping the heat, I enjoyed my stay and will return.

One of the nicer hotels I have stayed at. Great location for shopping and finding a nice place to eat etc. Hotel staff was nice and helpful during our entire stay. Rooms are beautiful and clean. You can smell the blossoms as they have flowers in the lobby all year round. I recommend it, it is right in the heart of downtown and Union Square. Will stay here again.

The rooms were clean! Everything else was good until i made my security deposit (in case of any damage). I was told that i would have it returned after visits if it was in good condition. The issue that arrived was that I’m being charged for it when the room was left with no rips, tears, or stains. Once I call I’m being told it was for destination, taxes, and fees. After overcoming that excuse, it went to “self parking” when I used a valet. Overcame that excuse. Afterwards, the next excuse came with “using the lounge and drink services. Never once did I use it. I went outside of the building to Chinatown and came back to sleep. It’s embarrassing that a business with an enough money has to do this for $120 dollars. If not then train your employees to say things in a more efficient manner.

First room, unfortunately smelled like a smoking room. Front desk apologized and gave me a new room with no problem. Location is great, right on the cable line and in front of the park with shopping and restaurants across the street. Minimal amount of transient pan handlers around the hotel. It’s a pretty good deal for the hotel room and location. I’d stay there again.
