My friend Rebecca took me here when I first moved to the Mission. I revisited today, and the sandwiches filled my east coast deli dreams. The owner of this local place has been behind the counter more than 20 years, and is a talker with a heart of gold. Juan made my sandwiches while smack talking Philly sports teams, made one of the local characters a meal on the house like it was a usual thing, reminded another guy to get the long and short sandwich because his wife gets mad when he comes home without food for her (as a wife that does not know his wife, I can confirm this), and talked to another lady about bologna sandwiches. She wasn't sure about the sandwich so then he gave her a generous taste with bread and mayo and then she decided she wanted a frozen pizza but didn't know where to get one and he gave her directions! To walk and take the bus! I can barely handle my own thoughts let alone other people for more than a few hours so this man truly is a magical unicorn and must be honored. I loved hearing him tell stories about riding his lowrider down Mission. And he makes his own bread. The suns back, so grab a sammy from him and hit the park. Tell him the Indian lady from Philly in overalls sent you

This is the best sandwich shop in SF. I come here almost everyday. Amazing staff, quality service and very authentic mission ambiance.

I won't be coming here any longer. It doesn't matter to me how good the food is. I'm not tolerating rude & egotistical behavior just for asking for a substitute for dairy. It's disappointing because I was excited to bring my partner here but the owner ruined our experience. I've been here about 3 times and the last time was an odd one. The first 2 times I came in alone, the owner was nice, a pretty loud person for it being like 8am but not that big of a deal. The last time, which was months ago but I vividly remember, I went in with my partner and we got different treatment. The owner was rude and condescending, especially to my partner who's a male. My partner tried to order a coffee and asked if they had some oatmilk cuz he doesn't drink dairy and he responded with "oatmilk? this isn't Starbucks. You can go to Starbucks for that". It was so rude and uncalled for. It's 2024, many people don't drink dairy, I don't either. All he could've said was "sorry no" but instead he chose to behave immaturely and treat us like we were stupid. Very poor customer service and rude business. Beware to not ask for a dairy substitute, or you'll be treated like you're stupid.

This sandwich shop has been here for over 30yrs, serving up delicious sandwiches of all kind. Juan the owner is a super cool dude. Not only does he serve great food, he is constantly helping the homeless with food and making calls on their behalf to social services. Definitely, definitely go here and grab lunch.

Best sandwich in the mission! Generous portions, well balanced flavors, the only sandwich I'll get around here! I like the Ruben and the Chicken Milanese!

It was bad! Very dry sandwich, it had lettuce n meat in it, it's like more bread than veggies n meat. Not happy won't coming back.

I finally made my way to the Sandwich Place and I was not disappointed. The pastrami is definitely 5 stars. The owner who managed the counter was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. I am really happy this shop has survived and weathered the changing landscape of SF and the Mission District.

Huge and delicious sandwiches! I had the BBQ Beef with grilled onions which was a fabulous mess. The owner Juan is a bundle of wisecracking energy - such a fun guy and you can tell that lots of folks are regulars. The Sandwich Place now joins Roxy Food Center and Deli Board on my list of best sandwiches in SF. Be warned that there is little seating and zero atmosphere. Grab your sandi and head to Delores Park like we did!

After 12 long years, I finally checked out the explicitly named Sandwich Place. It was worth the wait.I had the pastrami sandwich with all the trimmings (including jalapenos), and it was a generous and well-crafted sammy on a soft French roll. Will have this one again. The place is run by some sweet Latina ladies, very friendly and on top of everything. Pro Tip: this is a tiny place and it's best to order your sandwich ahead and just pick it up, the place can hold maybe 3 people at a time max. July 2015.

Best sandwich shop in SF! High quality ingredients, great flavor, and it's always a treat to see Juan at the counter. When I need a perfect deli sandwich and cup of coffee in the Mission, this is my spot. Family business for over 40 years.
