I stayed for 3 nights and the card key stopped working every day. I went to the counter every day and got my keys replaced.

It’s fine. Not in a safe area. Rooms are dark and a bit stinky because of the pidgeons. Otherwise it’s comfy and good enough.
Rooms: Rooms are basic but clean. Unfortunately there’s a lot of Pidgeons around so it stonlsnog you open the window.
Safety: Not in a safe area
Walkability: Good to reach.

Great location. Room is super basic and has no air conditioning.
Update to manager response. We were in room 204. There is NO ceiling fan, OR any fan.

Hotel very well located to visit the city. It is a simple but ideal place to use as a base. In our case it was quite economical. It has an elevator. The room was clean, had towels, and the bed was comfortable. Shower and toilet were in the hallway but they were always clean, there was paper and toiletries and we didn't have any problems. There is a communal kitchen equipped with a microwave and washing machine that you can use whenever you want.
Room temperature very good, heating on. Everything was very quiet (we had a room that faced the interior), the views were terrible but we were in the city all day so it didn't matter to us either. There is a supermarket just below, public transport, shops and places to eat. We recommend a ramen restaurant nearby called Ton Ton.
The only thing that I would highlight as negative would be the communication. We sent an email and an Instagram message to the hotel and never received a response. And there is no front desk or anyone you can go to.
Check in and out is done at the other hotel, the Stanford Hotel, but it is a 30-second walk away.

You get what you pay for but still worth it for me! Good location, clean, but don’t expect to have any service.

The hotel has no service. You have to contact the Stratford hotel to check in, get towels etc. The rooms do not have face cloths, no mini fridge, no ice machine in the hotel. It’s hard to keep your beer cold that you buy at Walgreens next door. The bed had a flat sheet for the bottom, but when you roll your touching the mattress. Ugh! And the bathroom floor needed a professional clean. Location is great, prepare for hill walking.
Nearby activities: Close to transit. Food and beverage everywhere
Walkability: Union square requires you to walk. Trolley goes right past hotel. Good transit nearby, take the Bart from the airport

We spent 3 nights in this hotel and room service never came to change the sheets or towels.
When we arrived at the hotel there was a nice human defecation in front of the door (I cannot describe the vile smell to you).
Equipment level it's a huge joke. No coffee maker, no fridge, a light that doesn't illuminate the room at all, a totally useless TV and I'm not even talking about the state of the bathroom.
For 100.- per night I had a much more prestigious hotel.

hotel is about 100m up from the powell street cable car. so very central.
check in is via the Stratford hotel about 100m up on the other side of the road. they give you your room card and also a card to access the building.
on my first night as I was leaving to find some dinner, a man was shouting that he was on fire and that he needed putting out. (xould tell from his shouting he wasnt). I can only pr3sume that a junkie or homeless had gathered enough to get a room for the night - which is worrying if the management are allowing this. id consider it to be a safety concern....particularly as no staff are present on site..
the room itself was good. appeared to be clean, comfy bed and a powerful shower - all that you need really.
only thing missing was air con. it was very hot in July...and the ceiling fan didn't really cut it...although it was better than nothing.
I'd recommend...albeit with a few reservations.
