I was wandering along in San Francisco on my way to visit the bookbinder museum when I met the owner of The Box SF, Mark. When I told him I was interested in books and other historical items, he graciously invited me to enter his shop.The outside is discrete and belies how magical the inside space truly is. When you enter, you're immediately blown away by the vintage art and artifacts everywhere. Mark and his assistant, Israel, gave me a mini-tour and explained how the shop specializes in ephemera, which refers to items that were designed for short-term use (advertising prints, perfume bottles, soap labels, etc).The shop contains items from the mid-1800s to the early-1900s from around the world. Everything is in great condition and attests to the craftsmanship of earlier time periods. What was supposed to be a quick 20-30 minute visit turned into a 2-hour visit.Everywhere you turn, there's something new to take in. I love antique and thrift stores, yet I have never encountered anything as unique as The Box. I found some souvenirs to take home with me and even the wrapping paper was this cool, historical print.The Box is a treasure trove for people who love vintage, antique, or novel artifacts. If that's your style, you have to visit.

I found this place on IG and had to drop by. I spent about an hour looking at all of the vintage/antique pieces. I could have easily spent several hours and several thousand dollars there, as they had so many interesting things.

The most unique event venue space in a historic printing studio. Highly recommended for all your meetings and events -if you’re looking for a unique experience in SF!! I’ve been doing events for 20+ years and this is truly a special place. Make sure to include a visit to the press room and mercantile shop!

Absolutely jaw dropping collection of antique toys, posters, souvenirs, and gee-gaws in addition to literally MILLIONS of pieces of printed materials from the past - lithographs, invoices, ads, matchbooks, board games and much much much more. All beautifully displayed and, incredibly, all for sale. This is a true treasure trove. Tragically, it seems as if the collector and owner is losing the space, so it may not be around for long.

Our company did an event here recently and the space was gorgeous, the staff friendly and helpful, willing to work with us on a hundred variables that came into play in the setup of the event. Great experience, great venue.

I recently went to an event at The Box SF. It was a beautiful venue that was very clean and well taken care of. I ran into the owner and he showed me some beautiful art pieces he had installed outside. It was such a welcoming place to be. I hope to be back for another event soon!

I love that Mark has curated and saved so much advertising and other ephemera for us to enjoy. I love this place! I'm always happy when I visit. Today I bought several postage stamp posters /art. I will treasure them.

SF Box was a great place to host our company holiday party this year! We had about 100+ guests and booked their 2 event space floors but they're able to fit around 150. All their rooms are beautiful and spacious. The staff was terrific and even the owner Mark had partaken in our fesitivities! Our favorite part about their package was choosing a custom vintage furniture setup!Event space aside, they have a store homing great vintage memorabilia dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries! Although outdated, all are still in such great condition. The staff was happy to give us a tour!

What a cool place! An unbelievable collection of ephemera, odds and ends antiquities, and just really neat and interesting stuff!We were told that there are about 15 million pieces here, and I believe it. Priced to sell, it is a collector's dream come true!We didn't check out the event space, but I have no doubt that it is awesome as well.
