Helpful staff helped me replace my headset. I struggled to loosen the lock nut. Phillip came over to offer help. He gave it a go, but asked for backup because my headset was not typical. The staff stayed passed closing time to make sure I could ride off safely. Store is well stocked of tools and workspace tables. They noticed all the stations were occupied and quickly set work stands and tables outside for newly arrived repairs. Great community space for not having to buy a tool for a one time use.

Kind, genuine, giving staff of volunteers. And man, are they knowledgeable. I am a bike guy and used to be a volunteer bike mechanic…and most of the volunteer mechanics here know way more than I do. They are walking libraries of bicycle maintenance and they genuinely do care about teaching you and helping you with your bike.Like the others said, there is a strong sense of community here. I paid the membership just to have a place to come and hang out with other down to earth bike people from time to time.Shop is immaculate and has every tool you would ever need. Parts are dirt cheap. Well, dirt may be more expensive than these parts. In a city full of snobs and transactional people, this place is an oasis of genuine humanity.

great place to fix your bike or learn how to fix you bike. Also a great place to build a bike and even buy some refurbished used bikes (They seem to have a few bikes for sale at any time for very reasonable prices and selection rotates)

update:another item stolen, this time from the bench in front, so make sure you don't leave anything unguarded! It's SF, but dang, so sad. :(much better experience when there's less people, and a completely different vibe during femme night. Femme night was intimate and every single individual treated each other like family and got me pondering how far current society has taken humans. I wanted to stay there all night. The culture makes all the difference. Incredible.--so cool that this even exists in such an expensive city!! <3 <3i went in on a weekday night (as the times are surely dictated by the volunteers whom prolly have day jobs) and it honestly felt a little too industrial for my taste. I felt like i had to be a bike mechanic to belong there! it's a very very busy place with every individual focused on solving their own problems 'n desires. Every bike work area was full (must come early?). I felt the need an exclusive fem day. I mostly just spent time trying to move bicycles out and figuring out how the prices / membership / "digging rights" work from De Ming. (note: it's easier to just read through the website)during that first visit, there were "special"-priced (or bike?) on sale for $10(!!), a few still near-completely functional(!!), a few seemingly burned during burning man. i carefully picked three out, and as i was comparing two out, one guy quickly bought the one of them while i was test-riding the other, in addition to buying the third one. :/ At that price, i could have bought them all and sold them for profit too, but i thought the point was to basically give it to someone in need and who fits the bike. (during my second visit, i saw the guy again, who claimed he had a membership years ago, and wanted something done after volunteer hours...). I got the feeling that because people here are so giving, it attracts these sorts of scavengers. *yuck*luckily i ended up with an old Huffy Aliseo(?) road bike with a wobbly back wheel that fit my body really well for $10, and an old lock for $8, a tool kit for $1, and a helmet for free!!! i was so stoked that i bought a year of membership for $40 ($40-100 sliding scale), as it would have cost $5 to use the shop anyway (iirc). you can also join a build your own bike (byob, "digging rights"?) program for an additional $40. i'll likely lurk the shop until a bike i love comes through before doing that though. it's def absolutely worth it as you can swap parts there yourself and make something great!i personally plan to try to do delivery service in the city and hope to DIY maintain my bike here, whilst learning everything about bicycles here too. :) i can't wait!!during my second visit, on a weekend day-time, things were brighter, better feeling. Although I didn't get to do any upgrades, Louis, the older man, seemed very kind-hearted, and it was cool to just hang and soak in the bike info. I'm certain that if you just hang around often enough, you'll end up assembling your own dream bike here!i suggest watching videos on how to repair before going, trying it there, then only asking for help when needed, as the place can be jam packed. If weather permits, grab a bike-holder-thingy and just do the repairs outside, so that you get some breathing room.it's also great that it's close the hackerspace, and perhaps other similar making spaces i don't know about!...now i just need a motorcycle kitchen... MotoGuild SF??

The one business in the whole city run by non-SOBs. Happy that something like this could exist. In a city where you every interaction means being squeezed for pennies and offered less, this place actually gives you something valuable.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. Everyone is incredibly kind and eager to help you learn about your bike. I went on a recent Women/Trans/Fem night and learned so much about my bike’s breaks. Many thanks to the volunteers for being such patient teachers!

Great place to learn more about bikes while fixing yours or helping other people fix theirs. The volunteers are SO helpful (thank you, Louis!) and very knowledgeable. People are kind are ready to help as long as you have patience to wait - it has a true community vibe. Huge selection of tools (can be used for free at the place) and used pieces (for very good prices). Please expect to be here working on your bike for at least 3 hours - especially if you need the volunteers' help as the place can get very crowded and more people also needs help. They also hold workshops for women and non-binary people which is super cool! Definitely coming back to learn and fix bikes ??

Great community/DIY bike repair shop! Bring your bike and they'll help you figure out what it needs in order to be in best working condition. They have some parts or you can bring your own and they'll help you install them.
