The animals were great! Went for my daughter’s bday, on a Sunday right before Labor Day. The train was closed so we were a little bummed out about that. Grabbed some lunch at the lemur cafe and the head chef that was there making the burgers/sandwhiches, was SO RUDE and constantly kept sighing loudly, he looked so bothered. He was also sweating pretty profusely and was not wearing any gloves, while the rest of his staff was. The other staff members in the cafe that were stocking condiments and napkins looked so miserable liked hey absolutely hated their job!!! Needless to say, I don’t know if we’ll be returning..

Compared to its peers that are the Cincinnati Zoo, which is cheaper than here, this zoo feels dilapidated and run down and not well taken care of. A whole section near the horse area was shut off. They should really only be charging half price in this condition and with sections closed off. Disappointing and both my friend and I said that the giraffes at the beginning were the peak of this zoo and it just went down from there.

Almost worse than Miami Zoo. The place was empty.

The zoo was very clean and we got to see a lot of the animals. My daughter wanted to do an alphabet animal search and we did pretty well! The enclosures are a bit small for some of the animals and they pace. I'm hoping that the animals in the small enclosures have a much larger place to wander when the zoo is closed. Overall, we had a great time. Oh and the bacon and cheese fries are great!

We bought the tickets online, 30 for adults and 20 for kids. 3 hours is enough for visiting everything.
The best part of today is the Koala jumped between the branches like a monkey (thought they were lazy and moved slow) !
Good job koala!
Red panda is so lazy today, I don’t think tree house meets their needs. They should live in bamboo forests alongside the river.

The San Francisco Zoo is a fantastic place for a family outing! We recently visited with our little one, and it exceeded our expectations. The zoo is home to a wonderful variety of animals, including giraffes and monkeys, which were a big hit with our baby.
What really stood out to us were the several play areas designed just for kiddos.

My experience at the San Francisco Zoo was disappointing overall. Unfortunately, many of the exhibits were closed, and the ones that were open had few animals visible, with some enclosures appearing almost empty. The animals I did see seemed quite sad, which dampened the experience further. The limited food and beverage options were another letdown. A particularly strange moment was spotting a toy turtle in the turtle pond—I'm not sure if it was part of the exhibit or left by a visitor. I would honestly suggest rebranding the zoo as a botanical garden instead. The highlight of my visit was admiring the flowers and trees, which were far more impressive than the sparse animal exhibits.

Great experience with my wife and three kids. A couple of enclosures were empty but still a good experience. You can park there and pay at ticket window, $11 for weekdays, and #13 for the weekend.
Visited on 22 Aug 2024.

Really a disappointment, lots of cages with no animal or just a lonely one. Really felt like it's is dying but maybe it's normal with the times and that might be a good thing. Leave the animals and protect them in their own habitat !

1st time at the San Francisco Zoo. Great hidden gem. It took me about 3-4 hours to see the whole zoo. I went on a Tuesday and not too many people, which was great. There is plenty to see, and the exhibits are well designed, so the visibility of the animals is great. Would have given it 5 stars, unfortunately about all the restaurants and snack shops were closed. Great place, would recommend it to young and old.

The number of animals has decreased, for about 8 years it had more animals but when it comes to children it is still

Terrible. It closes very early.
We arrived just before 4pm and were told that they would no longer be selling tickets as there would no longer be a chance to see the animals.
Only the giraffes and antelopes near the entrance and the gift shop would be open.
Fortunately they didn't charge for parking.

It is a rather small zoo with old and small enclosures. They have a train to ride which looked nice. Some of the big cats were not there when we visited and one of the restaurants were closed.
