You have to look for the door number, it is easy to miss it accidentally.The boss is very nice.But he is a very principled boss! To show respect and courtesy to the boss, do not walk directly into the store after entering the glass door. There is a very conspicuous call bell in the lower right corner. You need to ring the bell at the door to call him, and he will be very happy to serve you.It is a leather shop where you can buy a lot of beautiful leather, suitable for making bags or shoes.

Came here for veg tan. First thing to come out of the sellers mouth was casual sexism about money after meeting myself and my husband. Brushed it off since we came a whole away for veg tan leather - which, btw, is bleached and the back is not finished. You will live if you finish the back on your own (be warned, tokenole probably can't fix this). Honestly, the variety isn't bad. If you're looking for practice leather, go for it. If you want to avoid eccentricity and casual sexism, I'd recommend, District Leather Supply, Acadia, RMLeather, Springfield or hell, even Tandy instead here.

I'm just start learning leather work, and this is the only place in San Francisco so far that I can get the leather. The owner is super sweet, kind and sense of humor. I'm definitely coming back to this place again.

This is an amazing place to find in these modern times, I didn't think places like this existed in San Francisco anymore.Huge, huge inventory of beautiful hides and leather tools etc. they also have boxes of very large sized leather scraps for those doing smaller projects.The staff has always been friendly and helpful to me, they do leave you alone to make decisions so it is good to have a fairly good idea of what you want and are looking for and just ring the antique bell on the cutting table when you are ready.I'm so happy I found the leather piece I needed and some great rivets too.

Folks, if you find yourself frustrated when you come to SH Frank, you might just be struggling with entitlement, and you may just be intolerant of different types of personalities. Larry is excellent at what he does, but he's super neurotic, and probably on the spectrum. So, if you're not used to being treated with anything but kid gloves, then sure, you're gonna have a bad experience. Larry moves through the world like he's got a million irons in the fire at once, so he's not gonna waste time babysitting you through your indecisiveness.If you walk in the door knowing what you're generally looking for, and for what kind of project it's for, then Larry will not hesitate to roll out a few hides for you to check out, and he'll get you on your way swiftly, with a beautiful hide of leather, for a good price. If you don't know what you want, he's gonna let you stew until you do, while he goes to take care of other things. This isn't bad customer service, this is just old-world pragmatism. San Francisco really benefits from having such a fantastic business as this, and your low-star ratings say more about you than about this establishment.

I've been going to S H Frank for a long time, it's a more eccentric business but so much of this kind of San Francisco has disappeared and I'm thankful it's still around. I enjoy my interactions, I've always gotten the help I needed and the pricing is more than fair.
