Having trouble finding descent clothes for your child's special occasion? Can't find the shoes? It's a common problem and one should make Ruth's Shoppe their first stop. Jeanne runs the best children's dress shop in town! I made the big mistake one day going from department store to department store looking for my daughters' shoes and dresses until I realized Jeanne not only does school uniforms, but sells great tasteful children's outfits for boys and girls that will make them look dapper. I have been coming here for over 10 years for shoes, socks, Christmas outfits, and most importantly the best Communion outfits. She has a fantastic line of modern and classical style of communion outfits and mostly American made. Jeanne has the best customer service too with the old school flair paying special attention to detail and spending lots of time with her customers. A real treasure!

In addition to a uniform store, it is a one stop party attire Boutique for boys and girls. Sizes start at O-months and up. I love being able to walk-in and see all the special occasion clothes in person. Particularly, the gorgeous dresses, hair accessories, lace socks, and shoes for Babies and Girls. I also love the boys suits and shoes that come is a variety of colors, styles, and sizes.

I got my Easter dresses here as a child, and now I'm getting my daughter's here. It's amazing that Ruth is still there, and I hope her legacy continues - too many of our locally owned shops have disappeared over time.

Miss Jean is such a sweet woman with stellar customer service! She has a small but beautiful selection of formal clothing for children. She obviously has great taste and a very keen eye! I went in with my friend and her daughter who is one of my flower girls for my wedding this June. We spent less than 30 minutes here and found the perfect flower girl dress for the rest of my girls! It says a lot about Miss Jean that we found the perfect dress and made an instant connection with her. My friend will be coming here for her little girl's school uniform.

Our daughter is transferring to the SFUSD this year and we didn't know where to start for her school uniform. Ruth's shop was just the answer. Ruth knows everything about the uniform requirements for the school - so pleasant and helpful! You rarely see customer service of this quality anymore. We'll be back each year.

If you need formal wear for your children, Ruth's is the place to go. I needed a suit for my 7 year old son. First I tried the mall: Macy's = elastic waistband pants. $100. hideous nautical themes. Nordstroms = zero suits in size 7. $100+ . elastic again. extremely limited selection. Gymboree = zilch While all of these stores carry plenty of fancy dresses, the boy's sections were really weak. I couldn't even find a simple pair of dress slacks and a button down shirt/tie that would work for him. This is pretty typical in my experience. Then I remembered Ruth's! Ruth's expertise and customer service is so refreshing. I walked in and told her the occasion. She took one look at my son and pulled out his size. She had 5 suits in his size to choose from, 4 shirt colors and several ties. She was very friendly and gently helped him choose the best combination of shirt/tie for the suit. We walked out of there with a perfectly nice suit/vest (with zipper pants!), two shirts and two ties and dress socks for almost 50% less than we would have spent at the department stores for ugly suits of lesser quality. The girl's dresses looked really pretty too. We bought a lovely flower girl dress there years ago for my niece and got tons of compliments. Ruth's is my first stop for children's formal wear from now on!

She's the sweetest person ever!! Upon walking into the store with my sons, we were greeted by Ruth(the owner). We told her what we needed and she went straight to work on getting our tuxedos and shoes for the kids. The children's tuxedos were adorable from top to bottom. She's been in the business for over 30+ years and knows how to pick them out!! She's got all the necessary items for your kids school uniforms and formal party wear.

The last time I actually came in here with my parents and sister was way back in the 90's. My sister and I went to Visitacion Valley Elementary School where we both had to wear school uniforms. Then the last time I came here again was in 1999, my sister went to Visitacion Valley Middle School where she still had to wear school uniforms. I'd probably have to get school uniforms as well if I attended Martin Luther King Middle School. Have kids or siblings attending a school (public or private) that requires them to wear school uniforms? Then come to Ruth's Children's Shoppe and support small businesses in the Portola area!
