Great movie selections and an excellent watch-together experience. Usually the other moviegoers here are much more considerate than at other theaters. Not the most comfortable seats, but definitely worthwhile. An SF staple for a century.

Great theater. Wonderful service.
They show new movies as well as classics and independently. Highly recommend! Great date spot cause there’s restaurants and bars around too. Chill vibes. If you’re an EBT card holder, you can get a ticket for $5.

Great movies, grea historical movie theater run by people who love film. They have the big one and the little one. The popcorn is good, and I think they serve beer. They have a lot of good projection gear, I just saw Wings of Desire and it looked beautiful. This was a DCP projection. Parking is San Francisco but I found one pretty easy. Close to Bart and bus. Plenty of bars and eateries in the area so you can make a night of it. Keep an eye on their schedule, it's generally a repertory theater with some longer runs depending on the movie. I come from the East Bay where once upon a Time Berkeley had 30 movie theaters. And now they're only down to the Elmwood Theater and it's barely hanging on. So patronize often.

They have unique films you can’t find elsewhere in the city. I wanted a refund for my beer can that was unopened and touched only on the surface and the cashier told me “because of the outdated system” he couldn’t give $8 back from the cash register. Which is a lie. The guy wouldn’t tell me his name(I think it was Danny) but a way to identify him is to see if the man has more metal on his face than bare skin.

Saw Casablanca. Excellent. Not on 35mm for the purists out there, but good experience all the same. Real buttered popcorn. I was lonely.

Great art house theatre with interesting movies. Only minus is there is a club next door and you can hear the music from it trickle into the theatre during a quiet movie.

Old cinema from 1909 converted into a small, non-profit neighborhood theater, famous for showing documentaries and controversial films.

We visited little Roxie next the main theater. Old and worn out seats, urine smell all over the place, more like a homless shelter than a theater, small low quality screen, don't come to Roxie if you're used to AMC/Regal theaters experience

Loved La Chimera which I saw at Roxie - best film of 2024; and in 2023 , I saw my favorite films here as well : Joyland and The Worst Person in the World ; the film prints here are pristine and the acoustics are good;Saw another great film here : Turkish film “About Dry Grasses “ at Little Roxie and the large screen size surprised me. Love the flowery artwork on the wall in its water closet. It does need a facelift : the repertory portion isn’t as strong - past directors are mostly forgotten unless their death causes a splash - Goddard.

This is not one's chain movie theater. It's funky and very down to earth with older equipment and older seats, but it really works. Great place to watch a movie with a marvelous ambiance and a very appreciative audience.
