Their Bookshelves and coffee table have added character to my living room; their designers have such good sense of style as opposed to mere good taste!

Expensive but great quality and service. We bought a sleeper sofa and it was delivered on time by expert movers and installers

Complete disappointment!!! After buying the shelves from room and board, they then tell me that their full service delivery does not include installation of the shelves. Customers are required to install on their own. Even IKEA offers installation services. Now I know Room and Board services are worse than IKEA. Think twice before you order any products required wall mount from room and board!!!

TLDR: Super high quality, hand built in USA, no expense spared furniture with impeccable customer service. Go ahead and purchase from R&B if you can afford it. You will be very satisfied. Longer: We purchased 2 pieces from R&B totaling almost $8k. This is expensive stuff. However, if IKEA and junk from China purchased on Amazon is one end the the spectrum, R&B is the other end. MDF need not apply. It's all solid wood or plywood. The drawers were all dovetail boxes with a separate solid walnut face on the front. The walnut veneer was well selected. It was delivered without a scratch. Every company says they have great customer service. Unfortunately, you only find out if that's true if and when there is an issue. We had an issue. It was resolved with little if any fanfare. Buy with confidence from R&B.

Came here to sit on the sofa we thought we were going to order. So impressed with the customer service. Our living room is an odd shape and Bryan spent hours walking us through the store and all of our options. He also took the time to put it into the 3-d design program to help us see how it would fit. He was also great with our follow up questions via email as we figured out what we wanted once we got home and measured better. So excited for our new couch!

I’ve been buying furniture from this store for years but had a really bad experience recently. I went in to buy a couch and was greeted by a sales associate. The sales associate then proceeded to sit me down and dissuade me from buying the couch I was interested in. She also said condescending things to me and my girlfriend. Not quite sure what the sales tactic was but I ended up buying the couch from another company. Would recommend steering clear of this place for a bit.

My partner and I had a really wonderful experience shopping at Room and Board -- I was feeling really overwhelmed shopping for my first home after making a few costly mistakes. We first stopped by and got really wonderful help from Mark McMenamin, who sent us home with lots of swatches and ideas. We went back for an appointment with Brittany Nern, and she was absolutely wonderful. She made the process feel fun. We shared measurements of the room with her, and she mocked up a few options to help us decide. With some feedback, she modified the renderings to achieve exactly the look we wanted. We just placed our order and feel really confident after all the support and also the generous refund policy in case something isn't exactly as we hoped. I definitely plan to come back to Room and Board for future furniture purchases. Thank you Brittany and Mark!

I just finished listening to a "Business of Home" podcast with Room and Board CEO, John Gabbert. I enjoyed the podcast for the most part until it got time to talk about interior designers. I thought the way John described interior designer's business models as "little" was quite condescending. Adding insult to injury, the Podcast host replied that designers have 1000's of [business] models which ends in uproarious laughter between the host and John. What was so funny? I guess we are all just silly women with these little side gigs and have little understanding of how to run a business? Eek! To educate you, we make money from either 1) clients or 2) furniture markups. I understand John is trying to convey (albeit poorly) that designer's with the later model may not shop at Room and Board; but to then go on about there being some sort of moral lack from the designer who makes money via mark-up is, well, just plain odd, considering the business Room and Board is in. Y'all make money from furniture mark-ups, riiiight? John patronizingly ends by telling designer's what their goals should be, and I quote "we think a true professional designer charges for their time and part of their goal is to get the customer the best possible price they can on whatever product they are providing not to to sell them something where they get a bunch of markup". So John makes his money on mark-ups but professional designers shouldn't? Truly insulting. And one of the many reasons interior designers don't shop here.

The individual chair felt great in the showroom and when we got it home was too “deep” ???

We liked the couch when we visited the showroom, but after multiple delays on an item that was already supposed to take months to deliver, we decided to cancel. Customer service was generally unhelpful, could not provide and firm ETA, and generally seemed apathetic to our situation. We wasted multiple months.

Racist and dismissive to my fiancée. The right question for a salesperson to ask when entering a store is “may I help you?” The wrong question to ask is “have you been here before?” Kelly on the second floor was very helpful with our purchases, but her older, white female colleague on the first floor immediately set the wrong tone. Yes, I have been to the Knockoff Design Within Reach before, but this was likely the last time.

First impressions are excellent: Beautiful showroom with some items having a mid-century modern feel. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. I sat on a few sofas, very comfortable and solid. A salesperson gladly gave me a catalog and his business card. He pointed to all the fabrics as "the fun part" and I shared, "And this is where my anxiety spikes, too many options!" He chuckled and assured "This is where we come in to help you." Anything on the showroom floor they have in stock and can be delivered in a week. Special orders are now 8-9 weeks out which seems pretty speedy. I'm looking but trying to accelerate my decision-making: My sofa frame seems damaged, it's been almost 10 years, time to replace.

LOOK at ALL the furniture they show for sale in ALL their photos on their website, etc. ALL of it looks like used furniture you can find on the street for garbage pick-up, like when someone replaces old furniture with new purchases, etc. Sure enough, the 1st Google review I read said 3 matching dressers a person bought & asked for delivery, arrived with all kinds of dings, chips & spaces & miss-alignments in the way some of the drawers open and close. He complained & asked them to be replaced, & after probably 6 months of waiting, they re-delivered the same 3 dressers! I found this place looking at a business right next to it on Google Maps & clicked on it's name: Room&Board, thinking, "What's this, a service to find a free place to live including free meals, in exchange for helping out in some way? I clicked on it's name, & saw it said furniture store, & it had lots of pictures of fully furnished room lay-outs, like the furniture floors at Macy's & Bloomingdale's have on their perimeter, only ALL of the Room&Board's furniture in all their pictures looks like used furniture you can find on the street FOR FREE, or for low low prices at Goodwill or the Salvation Army!I'd suggest reading ALL the Google reviews via Google search of Room & Board in San Francisco or Google Maps listing of Room & Board from their map to see if there are more similar reports, as a 1st step, way before buying or ordering anything. (If used, do they encase furniture finds in giant clear plastic bags and set off bed bug bombs inside and leave for? Do they then "professionally" CLEAN the furniture, etc.?)
