Photoworks is a special place for not only SF, but also the bay area. A true community forward small business that goes above and beyond for its customers. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and very approachable for anything photography related.
Dave, the owner, is incredibly skilled at custom framing. He is also very kind and welcoming.
In terms of development for film, they are top notch and I recommend them for anyone looking for a pro lab. Fairly fast with impeccable quality for scans. I doubt you can find much better in the USA. Top 3 lab in the country for sure.
Great selection of film and a lovely neighborhood spot that I can’t help myself but visit regularly. My life is better with Photoworks in it.
11/10 - very highly recommended

The most INCREDIBLE film development I have ever had. The quality and care is beyond anything I’ve ever received, I am heartbroken to live halfway across the world!!

I've been recommending Photoworks to people for several years. On the few occasions that I had photos printed, I was pleased with the quality (despite the price being a little higher than I would like).
I began shooting 35mm again in the past 15 months and received my scans from PW via email. I was happy with the results. It took me a few months to get back to the storefront to pick up my negatives, and... Photoworks threw them away. $#@!
No where in my email with the scans did it state they would throw away my one-of-a-kind negatives after 30 days. At no time did I receive any kind of follow up email, phone call, or other notification that I had a strict window of time to pick them up. Two rolls worth of negatives doesn't take up a lot of space and while I understand PW probably ends up with a lot of negatives left behind, they might have the decency to communicate this with their customers. May I also add how wasteful it is. I paid for a service and to have MY film originals carelessly thrown away is a deal breaker for me. I will no longer recommend Photoworks to others and will be supporting other film labs in the Bay Area.

I've been a loyal customer of Photoworks for the last ~8 years. Typically, I find they do a good job and I'm especially happy with the coloration they get on Portra film. However, a word of warning: Photoworks made a massive mistake on my latest batch of film and ruined 8 rolls. I'll use Dave (the owner)'s words here from an email I received:
"I am very sorry to say that we had a film developing error in our lab that has caused several rolls of film to be very underdeveloped. This includes your film scans that you received today. Your scans will look very discolored and underexposed. The issue in our lab has been corrected, and I am again sorry that we did not catch the problem fast enough."
I appreciate that Photoworks reached out proactively to apologize and that they offered a refund (yet to receive) and fresh rolls. However, the loss of 8 rolls of Portra film from a bucket list national park trip stings tremendously. If I was a professional photographer, I would no longer trust Photoworks to develop client-facing photos. It's extremely unfortunate for a place that prides itself on quality (and sets a price that reflects that).

Very disappointed in Photoworks. I will start with I’ve been using them since 2018. I had an order for two rolls of film one 35 another 120. When I went to pick up the negatives after getting the scans I only got the 35mm negatives. They said they’d mail me the 120 ones later. Well turns out they LOST them! Unbelievable. The worst part is they never followed up and they were very important family photos. I had to constantly message them to figure out what happened before they finally confessed they couldn’t find them. Additionally I had to mentioned being compensated for the whole fiasco and no apology either. They never took responsibility until I kept messaging and calling constantly. And with how expensive is to develop nowadays, forget about it. My advice, take your film overseas if you’re not in a rush. Wayyyy cheaper and they do a great job. Bye Photoworst. 0 stars

I finished a roll of film while visiting San Francisco and stopped by Photoworks to drop it off. Beautiful job on developing and scans, which I got back two or three days later, and they mailed my negatives to me on the east coast. Friendly staff and great service--I would definitely recommend!

Service, quality of prints / digitals are all top notch. Only 4 stars because it’s the most expensive place I’ve ever gotten film processed, by a good amount.

Spectacular develop and scan— they can really make Portra shine with its full glory. Scans have a fast turn around of only a week, and they will cut your film for you for only a small extra charge.
They also have a recent addition of a film photobooth that is always worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood (7.50 per strip).
