Pastel Hair Salon is an absolute LIFE SAVER! I reached out to the Pastel team a week or so ago & they have been super responsive and so nice. My fiancée just got a job, unexpectedly, in the Bay Area. Sooo, we are short-notice moving from LA to SF.... 2 months before our wedding day.... As you can imagine, I was scrambling to find a salon that would take me on such short notice. Pastel was my #1 choice, and I knew it was a long shot with 2 months to go. Even though they couldn't get me in, they sent me the most amazing salon recommendations. Pastel Hair Salon could have easily just ignored me, but they selflessly helped a strange and stressed-out bride-to-be. I am eternally grateful and thankful! THANK YOU!

I had an incredible experience at Pastel Salon with Debbie as my hairdresser. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and comfortable. Debbie's expertise in color and cut truly impressed me – she brought my vision to life flawlessly. What truly stood out was her skill in managing my gray roots; they're now virtually invisible! The ambiance of the salon is lovely, and the entire team is friendly and professional. ( special mention Rafiky) I'm thrilled with the results and can't wait to return. If you're looking for a talented stylist in San Francisco look no further than Debbie at Pastel Salon in Union Square. Highly recommended!

Won't be going back. My hairstylist was very nice and took their time which was appreciated, but I'm not sure what it is about hairstylists not understanding what an inch is. This was my first salon cut post-pandemic so it was pretty long and I had asked for 4 inches off - an hour later I walk out with at least 7 inches cut off, and I've kept my hair in a ponytail since the cut since I hate everything about it. I told my stylist about how I never get layers anymore because I had a bad experience in high school with ugly layers, and after discussion in which I was assured that the layers would be gradual and none too short around my face, I can't even braid my hair now because some of the layers are too short. My haircut was over a month ago and I still hate looking at myself in the mirror and refuse to wear my hair down. It's an objectively good haircut, it's just not what I wanted at all. I did try to call the salon and I left a review that they requested but never heard back but I would recommend that the hairstylists check in with the clients as they chop more and more hair off - my previous one in another state used to do that and it was much appreciated.

One word-Rafiki. I lived in the San Francisco Bay area for over a decade, getting middling to lousy haircuts at exorbitant prices. Since I didn't have to show up at an office, I could go for long stretches looking frowsy, over grown and wild headed. Of course, that's not how I WANTED to look. After a 6 month stretch of recovering from tress butchery, I declined a friend's dinner invitation to a place I loved and was met with bewilderment. Didn't I like this restaurant any more? No, I loved it. Was I on one of my special diets? Uh-huh, trim as ever, thanks. Holing up with a hot new love interest? Nah. So-why won't you join me? I hate to lie so I admitted that my hair looked so ratty, I was not going out of the house without a scarf and a hat and then, only at night. My friend, bless her eternally, said she'd call me back in a few minutes with a solution. That solution was the phone number to Pastel Hair Salon with the command to book with Rafiki. The business is accessed by a mirrored elevator that's really only big enough for 2 people. I had to keep my eyes averted on the trip up to the salon in order to avoid looking at my seditiously unkempt hair. Walking into the salon was an uplifting experience-so light and airy. Lots of windows with views of San Francisco's Chinatown and high end shops. I was greeted, led to Rafiki's station and was immediately charmed by his soft spoken, non-judgemental assessment of my hair. He asked me what I was looking for, how much time I was willing to spend on styling and upkeep (none in all honesty), what products I used, all the while really thoughtfully listening. He then took me to be shampooed by Ping, who has the hands and fingers of an angel. And next? He proceeded to cut my curly hair wet. Horrors, right?! Not in this case. He is Sassoon trained and he is a master with curls. Rafiki is so easy to talk to and so not an unapproachable Man With Scissors, before I knew it, 6 months of sad grow out was on the floor, the diffuser was out and et voila! I was ready to face the world a new and better looking Warren. I couldn't stop looking at my hair and touching it. Rafiki assured me that this really was a wash and wear cut if I was not in the mood to diffuse my locks after showering. He also said he did not believe in the strict 'come back in 6 weeks for a cut' philosophy. I was to come back when I felt my hair no longer fell into its natural curl-and that proved to be about every 10-12 weeks. The trip in the mirrored elevator back to the first floor had me not being able to look away from my reflection, so I was glad to be the only passenger. True to his word, I no longer had to pour multiple products onto my strands to get them looking presentable. For the first time in years, people stopped me on the street to compliment my haircut. For the first time since I was a kid, I actually liked and felt good about my hair. After that first cut, I was a happy regular in Rafiki's chair until I moved back to Philadelphia. Gawd-do I wish, nearly every morning as I look in the mirror, that he was closer than 3000 miles away. Got curls? Go see Rafiki!

Trevor is the best! I had completely bleached blonde hair with 3 inches of dark roots showing, and the bleached portion of hair started to have a greenish tint. I came in and asked for anything to help make my hair presentable and lower maintenance. Trevor recommended low lights and toned everything down. The final result was amazing and added movement and depth to my hair. Prices are reasonable and work stations are clean. Covid safety precautions are in place. Would definitely recommend Trevor for your color needs.

I've been of client of Debbie for about 7yrs now. Can't believe I've never done a review of her. I don't trust anyone with my hair. It had been 2yrs since I had a haircut but you can see from the pics that Debbie brought my hair back to life with a keratin treatment and haircut. She is a true professional and is open about her advice on services, treatments, and products. She's pricey but she's worth it! The salon is clean, quiet, and I enjoy the floor to ceiling windows overlooking SF from the 7th floor. She is so pleasant to talk with and always has the best recommendations on what's up/coming in SF. She always gives her clients her undivided attention which I do admire.

Precision, precision, precision. This time around, Joel gave me a disconnected pixie. My hair, though fine(thin) is coarse and can be very frizzy. I also have a few cowlicks. If my hair is not cut just so, no matter how short it is, I normally end up having to flat iron it and use product for control. Joel cut my hair slowly (which is a very good thing) and got to know my hair, how it responded to the cuts-while also paying attention to the shape of my head and face.
