I already love National but I had an especially incredible experience at this location working with Laith. I was originally given an older Hyundai sedan but after mentioning I'm an Emerald member and was hoping for something a bit more modern he upgraded me for free to a Nissan crossover SUV which made my day. That alone made the experience awesome but a few days later when I suffered a freak accident dog attack and bite and was stuck an hour away from SF unable to return the car to the same location he was so empathetic and understanding over the phone helping me figure out where to return it instead and how to minimize costs. I'm so grateful for his help and in a week that was so traumatizing and overwhelming, I really appreciated not needing to excessively worry about how to return a rental car of all things. Thank you Laith!!

Great experience with Miguel L at National. He provided very friendly service and a few recommendations for my trip up to Napa. Later, when I needed to extend my rental and change the return location, the folks at National were very easy to work with. Five stars.

After a case was opened and won with American Express disputing the egregious charge, National Car Rental has sent me three separate collection notices by mail stating "we need to receive your payment within 10 days or we might have to place your account with an attorney, or collection agency". Very professional sounding. I contacted the number provided after each notice and was promised a call back by the representative which never happened. I just called a third time and finally made contact and was told that the will reduce the amount to $350 - so now this is a negotiation due to their error? The best part - they threatened to suspend my rental privileges, as if I was actually planning on giving them my business ever again. Staying firm on my recommendation - stay away.

I have been a long-time National Car Rental customer, but this is my first time at this location. What a disaster. Was given a car with a quarter tank of gas to begin with. When it was returned, there was a mysterious paint scratch on the side (that was likely there when I picked it up). The attendant said no issue, but then the next day I was charged $500 to my CC. No walk through was done prior, so apparently policy is their word against mine. When asked for proof that this was even $500 worth of "damage", no evidence could be provided. Completely different experience than at other locations.

Rented car more than 150 times in my life. Today was worst rental experience ever - they held me hostage in the location for an hour claiming they need a proof of my employment when in reality they just didn't have cars at the location and were just buying time. They also turned around other customer for the same reason

I went to drop off my car a day early on Saturday, 2/29 at 6:20pm (I got an early flight back to the East coast the next day). The entrance to the "drop off vehicle" location was blocked by large vehicle, leaving no way to get into the parking entrance. There was no one at the desk to advise on what to do with the car, and zero instructions anywhere on what to do after hours.Important to note that when I picked the car up on Friday, 2/27 there was NO mention that after hours I would have to keep the car if I wanted to return early, or any instruction of the sort. As there was no instructions on what to do after hours, and what to do after hours, where a car is blocking an entrance to the parking lot, I called the National Car Rental number and spoke to a woman who gathered all of the details. I let her know that I was parked on a ramp and needed to know what to do. She apologized, understood the frustration, and told me to leave the car where it was, and to leave the keys somewhere on the National counter desk. She would "make note of everything and [I] didn't have to worry about it". I repeated again - the car is on the ramp. She again, said that she was jotting everything down and to leave the car. We hung up after 9 minutes. The next day I received a phone call from National front desk at the SF location from an extremely rude man who first asked me where the car was and asked, "are you d****** He berated me several times on the call and was extremely condescending. I asked him what he would have done in my situation and he said "I wouldn't have left the car". Helpful. Conveniently enough, when I called the National # from the day prior, they didn't have a record of me talking to anyone. Luckily, phone records show otherwise. I've been a loyal National customer for 10 years and this is the first time I've experienced anything like this. Corporate has not been helpful, but this review is specific to this location. I would strongly, strongly urge to look elsewhere. They are incompetent, rude and and extremely unhelpful.

Very frustrating experience, rented a car and even when we got to the desk the attendant refused to tell us whether the car was AWD, saying it wasn’t his job (uh, what), then finally telling us (incorrectly) that it was AWD. When we got to the basement and packed the car up we discovered it was not AWD so we had to switch the car which on top of the issues with the attendant at the desk, took an extra two hours. Attendant Miguel was rude and condescending the entire time. Reached out to customer experience who were defensive and completely unhelpful. This one star I’m giving is for Tony who helped us identify the AWD’s in the parking lot, he was the sole good experience we had. However due to overall experience I can never use National again. Slow service, rude service. I recommend Enterprise across the street or Hertz at the Marriott as they are much more professional, reliable, and consistently provide good service.

Reserved a standard sedan (Altima/Camry) weeks in advance, but they only had a compact SUV (Mazda CX-5) available when I arrived. The SUV was terrible on gas and considering we drove over 1k miles, it would have been greatly appreciated if they had the car available that we originally requested.

Rude customer service at pickup and drop-off. They barked at me “The car isn't ready†and got it an hour late with no apology, and staff was rude again when dropping off. National is normally really good to me, but the guy working this weekend was just awful. Go elsewhere.

The friendly staff person, Pegené, was incredibly helpful correcting an error on my part. She calmly offered alternative solutions and even stayed a few minutes beyond closing time to resolve the situation. She was even able to get us an upgrade! Five stars.

My car is in the shop for a week or 2 so I looked to my go-to car rental company for when I'm traveling, and reserved a car with my Emerald Club membership. I am so glad I did! I walked in to their office on Folsom Street to find a long line of tourists and visitors. On the right hand side was the empty Emerald Club line with my name printed on the sign! Woo-hoo! I got in and out of there fast. I felt appreciated and taken care of as a loyal customer....which is why I remain a loyal customer. Go Emerald Club!!!
