Quiet and peaceful yoga class and great teacher. I feel so good all day after practice. I like to come here to practice because i don’t feel pressure to wear fancy yoga clothes or do advanced postures. Highly recommend!

I think this shala being a few minutes from my new office and finding Devorah was serendipitous, maybe even kismet. I think this shala being a few minutes from my new office and finding Devorah was serendipitous, maybe even kismet. I'd been between shalas for a while and practicing at home when my new work circumstances made coming here possible for me a couple of months ago. She is focused, attentive, energetic, compassionate and aware of the entire room. She's the kind of teacher that hustles and is never standing in one place for long. She facilitates a safe space to practice both physically and mentally - it's nice to hear laughter in the room here and there. I feel like I've found someone that is quickly becoming one of the people I refer to as my teacher. Her style, her personality, her take on this method - I just feel like click for me. Whether you're an ashtangi dropping in from out of town, looking for a new teacher, or brand new to ashtanga, I recommend coming to Devorah's.

I have been practicing at Mission Ashtanga for about a year now and I could not consider myself any luckier. Devorah Sacks is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced Ashtanga practitioner and teacher whose honesty and sensitivity has guided me towards finding my full potential in the practice. At this point I honestly can't see myself practicing with any other teacher.

Devorah is an incredible teacher truly dedicated to the lineage of traditional Ashtanga Yoga. Her years of experience as a practitioner and teacher are a blessing to all of us who come to practice everyday with her in the wonderful community she has created. Her teaching is generous and very personalized to every individual's needs. Go practice with Devorah!

It's an atypical yoga studio lacking the cool, feel good beats and bass. What you do hear is the rhythm of your breath. And, your concentration is so deep that nothing else comes into mind while you master a pose or keep yourself balanced. Another difference is the biggest ego crusher (NOT WESTERN AT ALL)! You cannot move onto the next pose Grasshopper until the teacher, Devorah, determines that you're ready. “But I am ready!†Are you? Let's be honest, you might get p_ssed off if you've paid for a class and were instructed to “please, sit down, and watch.†C'mon, that's not the end of your life. It is your practice for that day. If you're truly ready for Ashtanga Yoga Mysore Style (self-paced), you'll learn patience and kindness, especially towards yourself. Btw, the stars posted (3.7) are laughable. Seeing is believing. The yogis' mats are likened to housing in SF. No joke. We are mat-to-mat neighbor. Devorah as a teacher has a wealth of experience and understanding of the body and its limits whether you're cirque star or an injured bird with a broken wing. Don't forget to bring a towel, a yoga mat, and your commitment...it will take a month minimum to learn the pose(s) she gives you.

I have been practicing Ashtanga since 1993. I started with Tim Miller of encinitas and have continued for the past 12 years with Devorah at Mission Ashtanga. She was beloved by Guruji and is deeply respected by Sharath. Her goal is to alleviate suffering. Her practice and teaching are filled with love and intensity. Her school is a place of transformation and kindness. She is one of the most generous people I have ever known.

Devorah is aggressive, egotistical and money minded - apparently she hasn't learnt the true essence of the practice! A classic example of misinterpretation of Ashtanga Yoga and unfortunate for yoga that these are the kind of teachers that people flock to practice with.

This quiet, meditative, and honest place is a refuge in the city. Devorah could teach anywhere with her knowledge and skill, and she chooses to show up every morning, without fail, for our group. She gives us exactly what we need - be it understanding, a soft word, or pushing us past our comfort zone. Though she was named one of the Top 100 Yoga Teachers in North America, she's humble and respectful. She doesn't subscribe to the commercial yoga fru-fru-ness that pervades the million other studios in the city. Instead, you'll find her studio filled with song and people of all ages and sizes moving through their bodies.
