Stay away from this business. Hours of operation are completely wrong on the door. It says 6 AM and on Google it says 8 AM waited 30 minutes to 830 never opened and nobody answers the phone. Additionally, the times I have used this place basically none of the machines l work and it’s a complete rip off.

I’ve never done laundry here where I haven’t had to re do it because the washing machine was broken. I’ve spent so much money and time re doing laundry. They don’t ever fix the machines and a ton of them don’t work.

more than half the machines don't work, and are not marked as not working. waste of time and money only to find out the machine doesn't work after cycle is finished

The Missing Sock Laundromat on Chestnut Street in San Francisco has become, and is, an unmitigated disaster. Nearly forty percent of the spin wash machines are out of order - they just do not work. Some of those machines do not have out of order signs on them, so you put your money in only to then find out that the machine you put your money and detergent in does not work. You are left with money lost and no recourse. This happened to me on Monday, January 8, 2024 in the early morning, around 6:45. I lost $7.50 in the only large spin wash machine that worked out of the four large ones the laundromat has. Now, ALL FOUR of those large spin wash machines are out of order. To Connie and Gary at The Missing Sock on Chestnut Street: You and your company must do better than this. People are fed up. Most people are too fed up to complain--but I will complain about this because it is happening FAR TOO OFTEN. I will go to another laundromat. I am fed up of losing money in different machines and not being able to get my money back.Too many of the machines -- including at least four of the dryer machines -- do not work, are broken or are out of order. Some of these machines have not been fixed in weeks and weeks. I would strongly recommend you stay away from The Missing Sock on Chestnut Street until they get their act together and care enough to compensate you when you lose money.

I've been using MSL for a few years. It's a little more expensive than most laundromats, but typically it's been worth it. The machines are very good about crediting the time that I pay for, the facility is kept clean and, for the most part, the people who use the place are responsible adults/professionals. Recently, however, as San Francisco has seen an influx of "welfare professionals" from all over the country, many of those individuals have found their way into the Marina and other typically clean parts of San Francisco. Over the last few months, I've seen people sleeping in the laundromat, tweeking/doing idiotic nonsense, and trying to wash clothes that should actually be thrown into an incinerator instead of a washing machine. This weekend (and a few weeks ago when I washed my clothes here) the washers or dryers put streaks and spots of some type of glue/epoxy/grease on many of my clothes, ruining several items. Aside from the spotting/staining, the gaskets on the dryer doors are damaged and they keep grabbing/stretching clothes. They tear smaller items and stretch/distort larger items. The bigger washers have been consistently out if service for a while now, forcing me to use 5 of the smaller washers, and the 2 times I've requested a refund due to their card machine malfunctioning, I've never been called back.
I really like the location of this place (I live 4 blocks away--VERY convenient!), but things need to change immediately. Keep the dirtbags/tweekers/junkies out and fix the machines. I'm not going to pay this much money for the "pleasure" of doing laundry AND have the machines destroy my clothes.
I can't be the only one who's noticed these problems. A few years ago, I had to use this laundromat at certain times of the day because it was always so busy. Now, I can arrive any time on any day and there are plenty of machines to use. The pandemic is over, hopefully this place comes back to life.

It's Called Missing Sock Because They STEAL FROM YOU In The Form of Price Gouging For Blank Laundry Cards, That's Right! It Costs 10$ Just So You Can Have The Privilege To Additionally Pay For Their Overpriced And Undersized Machines, Quite The Shameless Way To A Create Barrier of Entry To Those Who Need To Wash Their Clothes The Most... Im Sure All The Classist Lint Bags In The Neighborhood Are Frothing At The Mouth For It, Either Way... DO NOT SUPPORT THESE SHAMEFUL BUSINESS PRACTICES

Must buy a card to do laundry. Card is $10, then you have to add value. Not made clear when you are actually purchasing, card starts at $0.
Seating is comfortable, plenty of chairs. Clean & spacious. Cozy place to work while your laundry is going.
Closest laundry to me by 2 blocks so will come here, but the card purchase was annoying.
If the card was maybe free (or $1/2) & the process to load funds was clear, then this is a really great laundromat.

I don't like giving a bad review but this place earned that. 10 machines were broken. Most had a card on them saying that. Other customers used different signs to convey that. One of the machines without a warning sign in it, just took my money and didn't run. The dryers dont give you the option to buy just a few minutes incremental increase option. I did see tourists here, which might explain the
Lack of interest by the owner in repeat customers. This place needs competition.

Out of all supplies, no one is there to help with the broken cash card machine. This place is an absolute joke. Avoid at all costs!!!

paid $10 for a “money card” which doesn’t even add any $ to your card. then had to buy $20 on the card to use the machines bc there’s only options to add 10,20 or 30. trash

Terrible laundry and terrible owners. You are forced to buy a $10 card which they say they will refund you once you return it. We tourists buy the card and load it with a credit card. We go to buy detergent at the distributor and they were all sold out! So we go to the nearest supermarket and buy 12 capsules for another $12. Let's get back to doing our washer and dryer. The next day we bring the card back, as written on the instructions, and leave it under the door so we can get a refund of the $10. I also created a PayPal account just to get a refund. To date I still have not had a refund and no response. I also sent the request via Paypal but nothing. So it cost us about $30 to do a washing machine!! I strongly advise against it!!!!!!!

Literally couldn’t do my laundry. Need to buy a pre-loaded laundry card ($10 first purchase, then reload like a gift card), then use that to pay at the machines. Fine, except the vending machine that takes credit cards and sells or reloads laundry cards ran out of them. But wait there’s another one that takes cash and dispenses laundry cards. Except it won’t take my $20 bills, it wants small bills only, under $10. Even to load the full $20 on a card and not give change would have been fine with me but that’s not an option, first purchase must be $10 exactly. I don’t have $10 in small bills. And there’s no employees here, the facility seems to be entirely automated so I leave. When it works I’m sure it’s fine but when it doesn’t it’s just a waste of time.

I've been doing laundry here for about a year. The washing machines are consistently broken. The cycle will finish and the clothes will be left sopping wet. They charge a premium for their washing machines, but don't maintain them. The machines have also taken my money, but then stopped working mid load. I've emailed them asking for a refund, but they never respond.
