I've been coming to Kinship regularly for over a year now and I have a great experience every time! All the staff is friendly and welcoming. Sebastian does a great job with both cut and color. He really listens to my concerns and provides input when I'm undecided. He's worked with me over the past year to adjust and perfect a color/toner that suits my skin tone.

Still coming back to Kinship and seeing Micah. He's so great about making sure I'm getting the cut or color I want and provides helpful suggestions. It's also nice that they have tea and comfy chairs. My most recent visit led to purple hair

Rae is such a great stylist. In all my years and salons, she has given me my best haircuts. She really knows hair and how to frame a face. I have gotten so many compliments on my most recent bob, and I'm so happy I found her and Kinship. I also think that they are such a great staple of that corridor of Clement, and I'm so glad they are in the neighborhood.

This review is for Sebastian who did partial highlights, I am so pleased with my color. My hair was half way grown out from previous balayage and so this was a whole new sun kissed look. Sebastian did an incredible job creating dimension and chose the best colors for my skin tone and eye color. So pleased and grateful to find someone who is such a gifted colorist!

Just had a delightful haircut with Rae. It was a late last minute appointment so I was happy to be seen. My hair desperately needed a refresh, nothing crazy .I have long processed hair, took off a few inches, cleaned up the front angels but kept it long enough that as a busy toddler mom I can just throw into a ponytail. Rae understood the assignment, kept it long, and checked her work to make sure everything was even. She is a sweet soul and I am thankful for her work! When I arrived at Kinship, I was offered something to drink immediately. It was a great experience. My haircut and blow dry was just under an hour and $100 before tax and tip. Which as far as most salons go is pretty reasonable. They also have Davines products, which I normally have to purchase online, so it was nice to be able to pick up there.

Amazing salon! Renee is the best, my boyfriend and I both go to her and are always so happy with the cut - she is great with men’s and women’s styles, so talented :) highly recommend!

Andrew is the best barber that I’ve ever had in the city. Perfectly cut, meticulous haircuts. Kinship is a great salon. Would highly recommend.

I've been going to Kinship for years and have always loved the way my hair turns out. I've gone in for cuts and balayage/highlights. My hair always looks amazing after and isn't damaged. It's a cute neighborhood spot. Definitely check it out if you're looking for haircut.

Really?? $80 for a simple male haircut? I get being a premium salon and rent isn't cheap in SF, but if you're gonna take walk ins like that, at least warn the customers. Maybe it's my fault for wanting a haircut in a pinch during my lunch break, but c'mon. A bit shady if you ask me. While the haircut was fine (ordinary, absolutely nothing special), I can't help but feel like I just got scammed. The saving grace was the pleasant conversation I had with my stylist/barber.

Just got one of the best haircuts of my life from Renee! I'm so grateful for her, she is such an amazing stylist. She truly listens and helps people feel at ease and confident about the haircut. I'm so happy with my haircut and I never like haircuts the first day. But this time I immediately loved it!! Renee is obviously very talented and knowledgeable about the craft. I'm sure the rest of the staff are wonderful too! This place has good vibes and it's calming. And they use Davines products which is what I prefer. If you're looking for a new hair stylist then go check out Renee!!

I used to work at a salon on the east coast so when I moved to SF I was nervous about finding a good salon. Kinship came very highly rated by almost everyone I met in the city, so I booked an appointment! I have never had a better experience at a salon! This is the brightest my highlights have ever been and the best cut I have ever gotten! Grateful to all who recommended Kinship!

I've been to all the fanciest salons in San Francisco; you name 'em. All those uptight places in Union Square that cater to older women with too much money. As a busy physician taking care of humans all day, the one thing that lifts me up is seeing my hairdresser and being in THIS salon! Hair is a big part of my identity, and I like good hair; spending money on my hair is a significant line item for me because it's the one thing that makes me feel good. In this disconnected world, with a major climate crisis and other world problems, I can feel good knowing that the products chosen are done so thoughtfully and of THE highest quality. There is so much environmental consciousness; you can feel it when you enter this salon's grounded and natural environment. The conversations I have with my hairdresser make me feel like a better human. The cherry on top is my hair is fabulous, and EVERYONE asks me where I get my hair done!!!! I feel like a hair model on Vidal Sassoon when I leave. I love my color and cut, and the owner has to keep reminding me to keep discretion with who I tell because they only want to see the highest standard clients to maintain the vibe of the place, but I can't help that I'm constantly hounded by the question, "Which salon do you go to? Your hair color and cut are amazing!" I WILL NEVER GO TO ANOTHER HAIRDRESSER. Thank you for what you do for me, our planet, and that lovely corner on Clement Street where my heart lives.

I am updating my previous review as having been a loyal repeat customer of Kinship for many years and only recently having a very unfortunate experience with ONLY AMBER who frankly was hostile and reactive in all communication after I asked for a simple redo on 6 highlights a day later. So sad. Ashleigh, the owner went out of her way to make this right. Only after I got a voicemail from Amber telling me I should find another salon did I leave a 1 star review for her only. I now realize that this 1 star review will be of detriment to the whole long standing team and community of Kinship. All of my interactions at kinship have been outstanding besides the most recent one with Amber. I still recommend this salon to my friends and family and will continue to. I do not recommend Amber. I'm my opinion she lacks confidence, and professional calm and decorum with problem solving. Update, the owner Ashley canceled my appointment with Renee made 18 days prior less than 24 hours prior and advised me of this in an email only. I replied and wished her well and stood by the facts. She continues to seek out communication with me via email switching her tone to personal attacks calling me a 'liar'. So sad, this place was once a center of the small community of Clement street. I had changed the review from 1 to 4 stars after she plead with me that 1stars hurt the salon overall. After the personal attacked on me I feel the rating of my overall experience is now 1star. The owner Ashley's last email to me: 'Feel free to continue with your lies and exaggerations. We know the truth' EVERY WORD AND RECOUNT OF MY EXPERIENCE AT Kinship is 100% truthful.
