The Mission Bay’s Optometry dept does not have a good setup to communicate messages or respect their patients.
They canceled my appointment, and tried to call me an hour back which I could not pick up. When I tried to call back on the number it went on a generic KP number. And then they emailed me 8 minutes before my appointment that my “reminder appointment for contact lens is cancel”.
They did not use the KP inbox to send me a message, they did not text message me on my number, and they also did not think of sending me an email little earlier. I went to the hospital and I came back.
Another instance was I got late for the optometry appointment by 11 minutes. They sent me back home. Next time when I got the appointment I have to wait for 28 minutes outside for the doctor. So if doctor makes you wait for 28 minutes that is appropriate and fine, but for patients it is not even by one minute.

One thing I love about being a member of Kaiser is that I can choose my doctor at any location. I have doctors all over the Bay depending on the service that they provide and the convenience of where I will be for work. This location is the newest one in San Francisco and it is so beautifully constructed. The parking garage is across the street and they also have validation for patients. My doctor's visit was quick and easy and I was not only able to get my prescription, but the pharmacist asked me if there was any of my other prescriptions refilled. I was not planning on doing so, but since she asked and I needed to do it soon, I did. I love this new location and if I have to get services, I will definitely try to schedule it at Mission Bay Campus.

Love, love, love Kaiser Permanente and especially the Mission Bay center. I needed a blood draw and X-Ray. I entered the parking garage at 9:04 and returned to it at 9:27! Everyone - security at the entrance, check-in staff, lab and imaging technicians - was pleasant, helpful and professional. I had no copay for any of it! I am so glad I have my health insurance with KP!

Needed a vaccine shot; checked website, its open for walk in. In and Out in 8 minutes. You can elect to get the flu vaccine and the booster at the same visit. Customer service: Courteous staff. I parked across the street `1670 parking lot. Tip: get your parking ticket validated for free ten minutes parking!

I'm updating my Mission Bay Kaiser review since transferring to So Cal Kaiser. I've also posted this to the Kaiser Corporate Yelp. This 4 star rating applies strictly to Mission Bay. I moved to So Cal Kaiser and wish the service was equivalent to Mission Bay. Its not. Mission Bay is only Kaiser facility that follows up on my Yelp reviews. Overall I would rate Kaiser Permanente Corporation 2 stars. The company is dysfunctional in many ways such as disconnected communication, disconnected IT systems and short term corporate financial policies that severely undermine preventive diagnosis and care. I've been a Kaiser member since 1998. We recently moved from Nor Cal to So Cal. The So Cal division of Kaiser is notably less engaged with patients and preventative care. The difference in care is striking - like two different companies. Record sharing between Nor Cal and So Cal is still relatively unautomated and my test records are not in their website prior to 2015. We were next to a new Kaiser hospital in Mission Bay, San Francisco which was really nice and staffed with excellent nursing and technical help. We are now closest to an old disorganized facility in Santa Anna. I've experienced several untreated health problems with both So Cal and Nor Cal, but Nor Cal has generally been much better. My wife had back pain for 10 years after an auto accident that was essentially ignored by So Cal and finally resolved 10 years later by treatment in Nor Cal. That said, Nor Cal failed to follow CDC recommendations and did not prescribe Paxlovid for COVID when I consulted two separate Kaiser physicians. Kaiser clinical leadership followed up with a recommendation that I should seek a third physician. This is actually not possible in the Kaiser system without changing primary physicians. Also my Nor Cal primary physician did not respond to a broken foot for one week. In fairness, I thought this was a sprain. I changed primary physicians and the new physician discovered that I had osteoporosis. Transferring to So Cal coverage was extremely difficult, mostly due to my employer's insurance change processes. Kaiser was very helpful after I emailed the CEO of Kaiser. Since moving to So Cal for just a few months, I've experienced multiple frustrations in just a few months: 1) The FDA approved the Moderna booster in September 21, 2023. Kaiser still doesn't offer this option. 2) Kaiser does not provide COVID boosters in any of their nearby So Cal facilities. The nearest location for a Pfizer booster is 15 miles away which is a 30-60 minute drive in So Cal. 3) My primary physician met with me for about 15 minutes. She was nice but I realized after the initial physical evaluation that I'd actually had no physical examinations except for the nurse administered blood pressure, weight and height. My primary physician did not perform a stethoscope of my heart and lungs nor any visual examinations such as looking for skin cancer lesions. So Cal physicians are clearly "on-the-clock" for 15 minute consultations. 4) The CDC recommends a colonoscopy every 10 years. I just requested one and my primary physician responded that I don't need one because my last colonoscopy in 2008 was normal and my annual FIT/gFOBT tests have been negative. It should be noted that FIT screenings have a sensitivity of 92% which means an 8% chance of missing cancer. Also the sensitivity of FIT for detecting polyps is 42% versus colonoscopy 75% - 93%. Colonoscopies are $3000 versus $30 for a FIT test. The annual financial benefits to Kaiser for choosing least cost testing options are obvious. Kaiser is the slowest, least convenient COVID booster provider in So Cal with the least choice of booster manufacturers. This is ultimately a resource allocation choice by Kaiser (i.e. a financial decision.)

Kaiser is fine if you have basic medical needs such as an annual checkup. But anything outside of this, you are out of luck. You can LITERALLY not do anything without calling them and getting someone on the phone. Even if you get someone on the phone, they will keep transferring you between departments and then you are on hold. You can never see a specialist without seeing a PCP first and appointments are typically days/weeks out. The categories of specialist are limited since you cannot go out-of-network. I switched from Kaiser to United and the process to have my prescriptions transferred to a new pharmacy was like pulling teeth. DO NOT BUY KAISER!!!

"Can we talk? " as the late great Joan Rivers would ask. Kaiser is a dump, plain and simple. My doctor friends in academic medicine are ridiculing me (a medical snob) for choosing to get care at the worst place possible. I could write.a book about just MY issues with Kaiser but that would be so depressing. In total, i have counted OVER 1,000 negative reviews of this dump on sites such as this one and others. My doctors are for the most part qualified for their job but the broken system (KP) doesn't enable them to practice at optimum quality. Kaiser just simply fails to do even the simplest thing, like post a sign if they dont want patients to glance into a large plate glass window adjacent to the waiting room. Instead the receptionist SCREAMS at patients who do so. My botched cancer diagnosis was another highlight. There are so many more and i PROMISE to give regular updates with more details. I've applied for other insurance but it seems to take an act of Congress to get out of this horrible HMO. I hope a Kaiser rep will post one of their PHONY replies about how much they "care." They don't. Well, they do about $$$$. Thats about it.

Always a good experience. Small enough with short lines and fast paced. Most of the time, I luck out and don’t have to pay for the parking, because I am in and out within 15-20 minutes.

This review is for Thandar Lwin only. She was my primary care physician. When I asked for a referral to an endocrinologist, she told me she would refer me to a psychotherapist instead. I switched primary care physicians right away. The new primary care physician took one look at my blood test results and referred me to the endocrinologist right away. I wrote to management asking that they limit Thandar Lwin to physical check ups only, since she isn't competent enough to handle more than that. Nor does she even care about her patients. Management responded by telling me they received my letter but will let Thandar Lwin keep all of her responsibilities. Needless to say, I am no longer a member of Kaiser Permanente. Despite having had great care from other practitioner at this location as well as the Geary location.
