Business is listed as open. It is 10:48am. It isn't. Spent $20 getting here and will spend $20 getting home for nothing. Their store front also looks super suspicious. Will NOT be returning.

Came all the way from Texas to see his shop and works. Great man, great service, and ended up leaving with a few items and some advice for a starting leather crafter. 100% recommend.

I have a few of my grandmother's vintage leather handbags. One was in need of new leather straps. A few years ago, I had them "fixed" by another local SF leather goods guy. The first job was pretty bad since he patches the thin straps with a different color leather...but i thought that was as good as it would get. Eventually the straps broke so I looked up John Fong and took the purse to him. He's been doing leather work for 40 years and his amazing shop on Hyde shows it! Once I found the non-descript door on Hyde, I knocked and entered a world pf leather hides and cool creations he has made over the years. I showed him the purse, he asked a few questions and bam...i left my treasure in his hands with no receipt or agreement of when it would be ready. The very next day John called me and said it was READY! He asked me if Id like him to fix the deteriorated inside pocket and I said yes. I went to pick it up the next day and it was PERFECT! Like a newly refurbished classic leather bag from the 40s or 50s! He charged me $75 all in. I was more than happy to pay for for a beautiful "new" vintage bag...I am so so happy and I will return (and HIGHLY recommend) to Me Fong with more leather goods, show repairs etc.... i thought the bag was a lost cause so I took a chance. It's beautiful and I continue getting compliments on it! Thank you Me Fong!!! So grateful. Whitney

I brought in a leather briefcase hoping John would put in a replacement zipper for the main compartment. John mentioned the price upfront and we discussed zipper options and preferences. I suspected it would take several weeks to get to this task as I saw he does beautiful, custom made belts, briefcases with beautiful leathers and such. He called me the very next day indicating the leather briefcase was ready for pick up! I rushed over, grateful and appreciative as this bag is used for work. John is a true craftsman and his level of care and workmanship is completely evident. Super nice man and we are lucky to have him in the city.

Today, I spilled coffee with huge gust of wind over the suede flap of my Chloe bag that I had bought in Paris. I was very distraught and quickly googled places that repair leather goods, and so glad that I found his shop because it looks as good as new (at a great price too). I brought it in and got my bag back within 2 hours. Thank you, John!!

John is a great Craftsman. I needed a leather vest/holster repaired and he did it in an hour right when I took it to him. He did a great job and I'm very happy with the work he did.

Da best! Nuff said! With many years under his belts (metaphorically and literally,) this is where the magic happens. Few if any today knows leather like John does. His dedication to the craft will simply blow you out of the waters... Conveniently located, his shop is a bespoke shop that weathered the tech-storm the city has seen and is part of the fabric that makes SF such a great city. Come pay a visit, and you will fall in love with John's craftsmanship like many of us here in the review board...

John modified a shoulder strap for my needs by making a complete new one with a better design and perfect match to the rest of the piece. Very talented and interesting shop. Work was done in less than a week. Awesome!
