This was a great way to spend a Sunday with our 9 month old. We were able to cover the majority of the zoo in 4 hours with a lunch break (and a few naps). The farm was probably our favorite stop since we were able to get up close and personal with the goats. However they are only open for petting and grooming for a few short hours in the late morning to early afternoon, so if you're planning on visiting this exhibit, I would check the hours!Since it was a Sunday and we arrived a little on the early end (10:30AM), we were able to find street parking in front of the zoo quite easily and saved on the $13 parking!

It's not what it used to be 10 years ago. We use to bring our kids here once a year when they were growing up (2.5 hour drive). I haven't been here since 2013 and it's now sadly run down. There are some new exhibits but empty. On the day we visited there were No lions, no tigers, no sea lions, no sun bear, less lemurs, didn't see the new hippo, no chimpanzees, 2 Gorillas, no bald eagles and no grizzly bears and more. No bottle water to buy unless you want to pay $5 at the vending machine. Bring your own water & snacks. We didn't buy any food or drinks. It's still a great place to walk around & see what they do have. It was a beautiful & we still made it a nice family day. I paid $115 for 4 adults & $11 for parking. I consider it a donation. Even the meter to get out of the parking lot needs to be fixed. Really disappointed but feel bad for this park. I hope you can turn it around. Whoever is in charge is trying to put this zoo out of business. Get some new board members & administrators to run this place properly. BTW, the older gentleman who greeted us at the pre-purchase ticket booth was very nice & patient.

Better than what I was expecting. I had heard that the SF zoo wasn't that good so my expectations were low. But it is a decent zoo. I think maybe the price is on the higher side and because of that it doesn't compare to other zoos in that price range. But if you have never gone before and can get a discount or free pass, it is worth a visit. It is clean and newer. Good way to get your steps in.

Stunning! The exhibits are beautiful and the facilities are well taken care of.The train they have is so cute. Not a long ride but nice. Not sure it's worth the price but it's nice to support the zoo.

Visited the SF Zoo with two friends for the launch of their Sunset Friday (the last one of the year is this Friday), a new after hours experience. It cost $12 to get in and consists of live music, food, drinks, kid-friendly activities, and ambassador emails.I'd never been to the SF Zoo before so it was cool to walk in and check it out. For Sunset Friday, only a limited section of the zoo is made available, with limited animals available as well. Flamingos were the ambassador animal of the night, which we actually got to see super close up, which was neat. There was also one bird area, and you could also see a zebra by the entrance.Sunset Friday is definitely catered to families. The entire ambiance was really chill and there were tons of kids playing on the play structures. Beer and wine is available for purchase, which I'm sure the parents appreciate. We got two beers, which are actually really cutely branded to reflect the zoo. Food consisted of corn dogs, ice cream, and a guest chef that was actually whipping up some bomb looking crab cakes. As mentioned, this is experience is definitely catered more towards families. We felt a bit out of place, but it was still neat to check out. I'd be down to check out the zoo again to see it in full, normal operations, but I probably won't come back to Sunset Friday (until later down the road and I have a family LOL)

In all honesty, I was super excited about coming here after years, but I left disappointed. I've never seen so many animals look depressed. Some were in enclosed spaces that were so tiny. Im not sure if the pregnant koala was purposefully placed in an isolated small area to protect her, but she looked miserable and sad. Probably more than 1/3 of the animal areas had no animals in them at all and just were not present. There were signs that indicated that some animals may not be there. We enjoyed seeing the few animals that were present but there were so few of them. My fav was the bear area bc one of them clearly was comfortable enough w people to hang out near us while hanging out. Got some nice photos and selfies w it. Zoo has a lot of potential bc it's got a lot of ground. The pros: free handicap parking. Free EV charging allowed us to charge up while at the zoo. Ground is level enough to push a wheelchair comfortably wo too many hills. Staff is very nice here especially the guy at the front checking for tix.

PRO-TIP: If you have EBT SNAP, entry tickets are only $3!I have been to this zoo before years ago, but they have renovated and added so many new animals and exhibits!Just know that by virtue of being right next to the ocean, although it can get really hot and sunny (wear sunblock and bring water), it can change into pretty chilly with the winds so bring a light jacket too! There is a LOT of walking to do here as well, so wear comfy shoes too. Parking is $13 but if you following parking signs and look around, there is free street parking to be found. My BIGGEST favs were definitely their new lemur enclosure and their Magellan penguins at the center of the zoo. The lemur enclosure has several different species coexisting in an open enclosure. You can see them from the side of the exhibit or up from the "bridge walkway". It's fun to see them chilling and chomping on lettuce and later on in the day there was a ruckus of several of them hollering at each other. Unique and definitely a sight to see and not connected to this enclosure are the lemur species from Zaboomafoo! I LOVED that show growing up and these little guys are pretty dang cute. It's the first time I've EVER been that close to them and it honestly felt unreal. As for the penguins, it's an open enclosure so you do see some other sea birds trying to get some fish of their own during feeding times. You can stand pretty close to take a look of them swimming their laps around or waddling where their homes are. Very cute and there seems to be an albino one too!Along with these experiences, I was also able to get super close to a grizzly bear and snow leopard, probably from sheer luck that they were near by the glass viewing area. It was also the first time I've seen a giant ant eater that close too. Absolutely wild. There is a children's petting zoo and "farm" area, but they close pretty early, around 2 PM so keep that in mind if you are planning to visit. They also have aviaries that you can walk through too. Although I was lucky on this day, just know that the way some of the enclosures are designed, so that animals can have coverage for shelter/enrichment, there were some that were impossible to see or spot, even with several onlookers looking in. Some of the animals that are usually there were absent on the day we went too, like the river otters, zebras, kudu, etc, so not sure if we just didn't see them, they've been moved due to renovation, or some other reason.Despite this, I had an amazing time and lots of fun at this zoo! I know with other zoos, doubling back was pretty easy to look at some of my favorite animals again or to check up on enclosures where I may have missed something. Just know since this zoo is so huge, this might encompass even more walking haha.

The kids had a good time, lots of sections closed, no monkeys, no bird aviary, missing a lot of animals...cool playground. Weather too cold, make reservations for Oakland Zoo it's better. And $7 Dollars each for a train ride after spending over $250 for food & drinks...a bit much. Pack your own food and enjoy what's open. The koala area was very informative, nice Keeper answered lots of questions!

The Insect Zoo at the SF Zoo is an absolute must-see for anyone with an interest in the fascinating world of insects. From the brightly colored butterflies to the creepy crawly spiders, there is something for everyone to discover and learn about. One of the most thrilling exhibits is the hive of killer bees, where visitors can observe these notorious insects up close in their natural habitat. It's a mesmerizing and slightly terrifying experience to watch the bees move around the hive, working together with such precision and efficiency.Another standout exhibit is the snow bee display, which showcases these resilient creatures that have adapted to survive in some of the harshest environments on earth. It's incredible to see the delicate beauty of the snow bees, and to learn about their unique survival strategies.Overall, the Insect Zoo is a fascinating and educational experience that will leave you with a newfound appreciation for the world of insects. While some exhibits may be intimidating, the staff is knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions you may have. Don't miss this opportunity to explore the amazing world of insects!

Quality: 4Decor: 4Service: 4Good zoo. Came here on a day I was free since I had never been before, and I really enjoyed the experience. Overall, spent over 2 hours here and got to see almost all the exhibits.Highlights of the visit:+ Seeing a group of giraffes feed less than 10 feet away+ Watching a group of penguins swim around the pool and feed+ Getting close to a snow leopard that was pacing back and forth in the cage+ Watching wolves feed on some raw chickens+ Watching a red panda feed on some greeneryWould definitely recommend. Easy to get here through public transport, and there's plenty of parking in the lot.I've also been here as part of a corporate event, but that was less fun since it was freezing outside, and the food wasn't very good. The photobooth was fun though.

What a dump. No consideration for the customer. System crashes, then only 3 tellers open for a line all the way to street. Only Oakland Zoo from now on!

This weekend we visited the San Francisco Zoo and it turned out to be a rainy day. I had ordered tickets online ahead of time, only to find out that the day was free admission. Despite the bad weather and some exhibits being closed due to damage from recent storms or animals staying indoors, we still had a great time. The zoo staff were friendly and helpful, and there were plenty of interesting animals to see. The indoor exhibits that were open were great too, with lots of interesting facts about the animals. We particularly enjoyed the "bug zoo." All in all, I would definitely recommend a visit to the San Francisco Zoo, even on a rainy day. If anything, it added to the adventure. Just come prepared for the weather! Since my tickets weren't used for our visit, we have 30 days to revisit. Maybe in a few weeks more exhibits will be open!
