This specific HR Block provided and continues to provide terrible service to myself. This is in contrast to other HR Block offices I have used since arriving in America in 2018.Most recently this specific HR Block did a simple W2 tax return form, with very very minimal stocks to deal with. This was completed on the 17th of April 2023, for the 2022 year. Both Federal and State Tax were accepted that day electronicallyThere is no responsibility nor accountability from the specific Tax Advisor nor the Branch as a whole. As such i waited for the 8 week grace period to pass still having not received my Federal Tax Return of just over $5000, but having received my State Tax within ~ 2 weeks.Initially:The tax accountant did not understand that I had been unemployed for half of the year living in Texas, where there is no state tax. Consistently had to ask for help and advice, including being told there is no State Tax in Texas, which is irrelevant as I did not work in Texas.I then moved to the Bay Area for a new Job.Currently:I called this branch up, and the woman could not understand me talking to her over the phone, although I am a native English speaker I do speak with Australian accent - so I understand that sometimes it is hard understand my words, but as such after 20 minutes back and forth not even progressing past providing my ID checks, she hung up on me. Stating that she is Chinese, and does not not understand, there was no one available within the Branch she could put on the phone to help relieve the issue. Nonetheless as if that is some how a reason to not understand or tell the difference between words such as 8 & 9 and 2 & 3.Continuing on passed this issue my Tax Return is now being held by the IRS for review. For unknown reasons which could at minimum take another 60 days. HR Block washed their hands of me and told me its with the IRS there is nothing they can do, to me this is unacceptable, they did the work, obviously poorly, and now they don't want to support to expedite my return - from which they will garnish ~$200 for their "work"I would recommend highly going somewhere else.

This place is the worst An article was written a few years ago, about how H&R Block aggressively lobbies congress so that Americans can't have "return free filing". So instead of getting our taxes done for free(like other developed countries), I have to waste my money and time at this dump. Ugggghpropublica.org/article/f…

I called for help with a small matter. The guy gave me the time when someone would call me. Nobody called at that time OR EVER. They. Never. Ever. Called. Back. This is no way to run a business. I would never remotely consider using them. Ever. Loserville.

Price transparency. I wish I knew how much the fee would be ahead of time. I feel like I got blind sided with a $500 bill for a relatively simple tax return.

I've used HR BLOCK for years. I felt secure in terms of audits from IRS in that the service would handle and explain any problems IRS had with my tax fillings. The professionalism, of course, was A-1, but most valuable to me was the kindness of the preparers. Nothing beats good old fashion customer service or humanism. Now that I'm retired, I could do my own taxes; however, HR BLOCK is more updated regarding changes in the rules, regulations, laws, etc., than me. Also, due to poor vision and enhanced physical issues, it's more convenient for me to pay a fee to have expert/certified preparers file my taxes.

My husband and I had an appointment today to get our taxes done. I booked the appointment to be a One-on-one in office appointment. However, we were turned away by the tax "pro" upon arriving for our appointment while another couple who arrived at shortly after were seen. Let's walk through what through what happened: My husband and I arrived (on time) for our appointment. We walk into the office and hear someone talking in one of the cubical. We wait patiently to be acknowledged and my husband took a site in one of the chairs. Another couple walked in and waits (socially distanced from us) by the main door. The tax "pro" (Clare Thompson) comes out and looks right past myself and my husband to the couple at the door and greets them warmly, acknowledging that she knows them and asks why they are back. The man explains that she e-mailed them to come back for a 2pm appointment. She walks past us and ushers them in to a cubical without saying anything to us. She exits the cubical and walks towards us I'm assumed to great us. Nope that was not the case. I stop her and say "hello I have a 2pm appointment". She then tells me to hold on so she can get another chair for the couple. After getting the chair she then walked up to me and in a very rude tone asks who my appointment is with, to which I reply "I don't know let me see if its in the confirmation." I pull up the text to show her, to which she reply's "I can't read it, I don't have my glasses" (her glasses were on her face). I then read her the text which confirmed the date and time and location of the appointment. She then goes over to the computer at the front desk and asks me for my name which I politely give her. She then informs me that I cannot meet with her because she only takes drop-offs. I explained that that's not what I booked, I booked to meet in person and asked her I'd was she the person I was booked to see. She then demanded (not asked) who I spoke to when I made the appointment. I then explained that I made it on line. She then said "you do have an appointment with me but well I don't meet with people in person". My husband then asked why the she was meeting with the other couple. She then said she could not hear my husband and had him repeat his question three times. (She heard the other couple clearly across the room when she greeted them but she could not hear my husband who was speaking in a clear direct tone when he stood in front of her). When she finally acknowledged my husband's question, she replied she had already done there taxes and was meeting to go over them. She then told us there was no one else to meet with us. (Mind you the person we heard talking in their cubical when we first arrived was still in their cubical talking away). She never offered to reschedule and only began to look for another appointment with someone who would meet with us in person when I asked. At this time my husband said he was done and that we would find someone else to help us. Now I'm a pretty level headed person, and so is my husband. We have both dealt with many rude people both individually and as a bi-racial couple (my husband is black and I am white). We have also dealt with racism. We have experienced both enough to tell the difference. Clare Thompson's behavior toward us was not rudeness.
