“Post.script is the perfect spot when you're looking for a unique gift for a special friend or just browsing for something fun for yourself. Tucked away off of busy Fillmore Street, there is a wide range of offerings packed into this small spot. The selections are well-curated and can be both practical and wonderfully decorative at the same time. During a recent trip, I picked up several of the Baggu brand reusable bags, as they carry a good selection of these bags. I also found some lovely glassware and whimsical geometric coasters for the perfect birthday gift. The staff was also helpful and courteous, as they have been on all my trips there. Along with checking out the fun gift cards and writing instruments, one can spend a lot of time perusing the different and interesting selections of hair accessories, as well as attractive items for decorating the home. The variety of items and reasonable price points make post.script a spot not to be missed.”

“Alicia is the heart and soul of her amazing store, Land of the Sun. It’s one of the few original businesses from the peace and love Haight Ashbury scene of the 60s and 70s. I love all the merchandise she offers, especially my mushroom bell bottoms, Alice in Wonderland vintage t-shirt, the Grateful Dead t-shirts, stickers and patches. Every time my husband and I visit San Francisco, we make a homage to the Haight, and we definitely make a stop into Alicia’s wonderland to soak in the positive vibes and creativity that she radiates. “What a wonderful experience. I wandered into this store after a recommendation from a colleague. I was seeking a particular item, stationery for letters and envelopes. As soon as I entered, Danielle welcomed me with a smile and offered to help. She listened carefully and brought me a wide selection of products to choose from. Each package had a different theme with cards, stickers, and envelopes. I was so pleased with the price and cute factor of all the products. Danielle invited me to explore the store after I made my selection. There are so much fun gift ideas from coasters to bags to women's clothing. During checkout, Danielle explained the history of the store, shared other locations around the Bay Area, and promoted the fact that this store is Female and family owned. “This store is filled with fun, fresh, local items. The inventory is inventive and such a breath of fresh air. And you can tell they care about their customers and their experience. “Exactly the classic China Rain scent I have been looking everywhere for since Terranova stopped producing it. Shipped quickly and beautifully packaged. Now that I know the level of quality I will be buying many oils. Can't find this stuff in rural Colorado but as an Ojai, CA native I am so glad I came across this shop (in a reddit discussion)! Thank you! I ordered a couple sampler packs as well so will leave reviews on those when they get here! Can't wait! Only advice is to sell on etsy if you aren't already as I am sure others are looking for this particular China Rain or other Terranova discontinued scents. I ordered many others off there with great disappointment each time. So glad Life is in my life now!”

“The California Academy of Science is a must go for everybody. I grew up going to field trips here, then chaperoned field trips here when my kids were in school. First time taking my granddaughter! So fun!The rainforest is always a treat. I love the clear examples of how we are all connected. Every living thing. So much to learn and wonder. And then, butterflies flying all around you? Who isn't mesmerized by that?Quick note about the rainforest, it gets hot! Wear layers so you can continue learning without sweating your butt off. All of these visits and this is first time I noticed the 4 eyed fish! I always gotta say hello to my old friend the white gator.The planetarium is reservation only so we skipped it this time.They have a cafe, but we brought lunch from home and ate outside where there is a nice area for the littles to run around and play and to build a nest like a squirrel and other activities. We also indulged in expresso from the coffee booth out front. And hung out by the fountains listening to some great live music. Last tip, tickets are cheaper online and early than at the door.”

“Good selection of mahjong tiles, including multiple sizes, pattern colors and ones with Arabic numerals. I thought they would be expensive, marked-up for being in the center of a touristy area, but they were very reasonably priced. The staff were so nice and helpful. “Soft opening right next to sweet cupz, sounds like competition but it has a really nice interior to sit down in, has wifi but no power outlets so come with a full battery or charge in the library nearby. Street parking in residential is recommended! I got the holy howl to experiment but it was alright, the coconut milk did not really add flavor to the avocados make a splash of condensed milk would have been nice. Also had some pieces of the pit in my drink too (hence the 4 stars) I'll still come back as they had food I wanted to try as well!”

“Amazing gift shop for traditional Chinese souvenirs and clothes!We went around Chinatown looking for a tiny Chinese coin purse and came across many places where the quality and price were not worth it. However at this shop, the prices were extremely affordable and quality was better than anything we have seen.We really liked looking through all the Chinese decor, clothing and souvenirs. The store owner was very friendly and welcoming.We came in looking for a $1 coin purse and left with $100 worth of merchandise. Extremely satisfied!”
“The Museum store, also purchased a few items there and Libby the cashier was amazing. She convinced us a membership would be amazing, so my dad did sign up. Libby was so helpful and friendly. She helped me locate an Anubis I wanted, made in and sent from Cairo Egypt. Also purchased a coffee mug of Rameses.”

“I really love this place, and I always stop by when I go play video games like an addict next door at Emporium Arcade. They have the cutest greeting cards. Usually, I just look around and bank things in my memory as inspiration to create, but sometimes I splurge on gifts for my loves. The prices are decent and the quality is great. The employees are awesome. Good luck finding parking, though. ?”
“This place has been so many things throughout time. In the 70's it was an apartment/art gallery, the 80's thru to 2000 it was various kinds of shops from the arcane to jewelry to herbs to magic to comics but it has always been the spot in my old neighborhood that has always been the go-to place to scope out some of the most interesting things that the Haight Ashbury has to offer. It was a complete blessing to pass by here and also go inside the last time I was in San Francisco.”
“Paxton Gate is such an incredible and curious shop. I have so many items in my elementary classroom that I use to help teach kids about certain aspects of zoology, dinosaurs, and the natural world. They offer incredibly unique items that any curious patron, be they adult or guest, would love and be fascinated by. I tell everyone I know about this company and browse their site often looking for new and exciting things. They take so much care in their packaging that everything I have received arrive in perfect condition.”

“this has become my favorite plant shop in san francisco. i’m a plant FREAK and i get bored of finding the same basic stuff at TJs and Lowe’s. Many of the more niche plant shops have crazy prices. But COVE has an incredible selection of rare (and rare-ish) houseplants and the owner clearly keeps them in pristine condition. the prices are unbeatable and the selection is so exciting every time i go. i bought a maidenhair fern here and almost a year later it is thriving (see pics). this time i got a GIGANTIC philodendron white princess with 20 leaves larger than my hand for $45!! and a beautiful watermelon peperomia for $34. if you are a bay area planthead and want a better selection of hoyas, alocasias, syngoniums, etc you must check it out!”
“The San Francisco Mercantile is the type of shop that puts a smile on your face when you walk in the door. The displays are pretty, and even if you didn't know that you needed to purchase something when you walked into the store, your heart will feel happier and lighter for venturing in.”
“Through Reddit, I learned that this unassuming, eccentric little shop offered aura photography. It isn’t well advertised. I asked the shopkeeper if my boyfriend and I could get our aura photo taken together and was taken to a back room.The process was very fast, and I think it cost around $25. She didn’t do a deep reading or analysis. She just showed me a piece of paper on how to interpret my photo. I really wanted the photo and didn’t need the analysis so I didn’t care about getting a deeper reading ?”
“I really like this place on the corner of Haight & Ashbury across from the iconic Ben & Jerry's ice cream store. On what is part of the cornerstone of SF culture, this store run by an artist collective acts also as a visitor center for the neighborhood. After visiting this store and seeing their designs I am convinced that the Haight needs to be a bigger part of the tourist scene from the 60's culture to famous nearby homes of Jerry Garcia and Janice Joplin to film scenes from Antman and When a Man Loves a Woman, this store is a wealth of information. But more importantly I think their T-Shirts and other fun stuff make better looking gifts that what I have seen in all my years of living in SF. In fact some stores are beginning to carry their designs. Check it out, inhale the aroma that is the Haight and shop this creative and amazing store. The staff are also very well informed so ask them anything you'd like. Tell all your tourist friends to come here.”

“If someone has no self-control, this is a place where you could easily drop your dollars. I, for one, wanted to browse every corner and get something from every section (be it cards, pens, notebooks/journals, pins, accessories, etc). I ended up leaving with just a sticker, but I loved how quirky, unique their items are. You can literally find anything you can imagine in regards to small gift ideas. I would definitely come back if I'm back in the area!”

“I've been gifted several of these lovely soy candles so I was excited when I spotted their storefront in San Francisco. I especially like their candles that come in a tin and they were on sale when I visited so I happily picked up a new one. I chose Dusk which they describe as: 8pm. Damp leaves, crisp air, powder and spice on a clear night. Woody, cool, and earthy. Black pepper, clary sage, palo santo, and blooming iris. I can't wait to smell this scent wafting through my home.If you're looking for a gift I highly recommend one of their 10 ounce soy candles from the Sunset collection paired with a pretty book of matches.”
