When I read some of the reviews I was very apprehensive about having chosen this Dollar car rental location. However, my experience was totally positive. The lady on the reception desk was very friendly and helpful. There was no queue (2pm on a Saturday), the car was excellent, and the drop off 5 days later at the airport was very swift and efficient.

We have had good experiences here. The pickup took place within 20 minutes and we were upgraded to an SUV free of charge.

Agency to absolutely avoid! Deplorable welcome. Car reserved for 11:30 a.m., we were asked to wait until 3:00 p.m., a so-called manager confirmed to us that it was 100% safe for 3 p.m. only to finally come across another manager telling us that this person was not a manager and that there is no car available. Result: non-refundable hotel, 1 day lost and obligation to go to the competition. Run away!

Agency to AVOID!!!! Never book there, never use this company, unless you want to have a bad vacation, waste 1 day waiting and have to find another car rental company at 6 p.m.…

Dont recommend coming here at all.
If you can, dont go here, go anywhere else. Staff is terrible. They wouldnt give us a car on debit card because apparently they got their own terms than a dollar has, which is ridiculous. When we told the manager we did it last time without any problem, he said he won't deal with us and left. No help, no professionalism, inhuman behaviour.

This is the worst office I’ve ever seen in my life. After returning the car I rented, they charged me an extra $500, claiming that it was “too dirty”. The car was cleaner than you would expect, considering four people had been traveling in it for 15 days. They didn’t inform us about this extra charge in person when returning the vehicle, but instead sent us an email 20 minutes later, hoping we wouldn’t come back since we were waiting to catch a flight. However, we returned to the office to dispute the charge and ask what the issue was with the car. There, the manager in charge, Roxanne, was rude and told us in a disrespectful manner that the car was in poor condition and that she wouldn’t remove the $500 charge. A complete scam. I’m attaching a video of the car so you can see the “bad condition” it was in when we returned it. Don’t come to this office if you don’t want to be scammed.

Very bad experience. Our car was also delayed by 3 hours and thus lost a day of vacation. Dollar sends you out onto the street with suitcases and all, so go for a walk. No apology, compensation or cup of coffee. Eventually they found a car for us in the 'written off cars' garage. Full of dents and 100,000 km driven. Vibrating on the highway and also when braking. Avoid this place, never again Dollar Rent-a-Car!

It’s cheap. The service is bad and DO NOT EXPECT your car at the time of your reservation. Book to pick up at 7am, then make plans to get a car at about 10am. This is just how it works — expect it. It’s not the staff’s fault, it’s a terrible system. You get put on a waitlist and when the cars are here, you’ll get it eventually. Just plan this into your day and you’ll be fine.

HORRIBLE!!! Our family vacation was supposed to start with picking up our SUV rental at Dollar/Thrifty in San Francisco. I reserved and paid for six weeks in advance. I arrived at my scheduled pick up time to find a relatively small line of approximately 12 people, but it became apparent in a short amount of time that operations weren’t functional. There was a lot of confusion about who was there to pick up a car who was there to return a car and people that had already been helped but were apparently still waiting on their car. After 2 1/2 hours of waiting in line I overheard someone mention they were out of gas powered cars. I had specifically stated I required a gas powered car in two conversations with customer service prior to my pickup date as electric wasn’t conducive for my travels to Yosemite. (Customer service is nearly impossible to get through to and seem to just agree to whatever you’re asking to get you off the phone). An hour later, when I reached the counter, the gentleman acknowledged my reservation, took my credit card and some other information and proceeded with having me sign some acknowledgments. I expressed to him that I was pleasantly surprised with how smooth this was going after I had seen several people walk away in frustration and heard there were no gas powered cars. He then informed me they were no gas or electric cars and that he was simply taking my information and I would get a call later when management released more cars. At this point, they were closing in 10 minutes. I told him my two young kids have been waiting in the heat for five hours. I made and paid for this reservation well over a month in advance and needed a gas powered car to get to Yosemite and would have to get another hotel in San Francisco at this point if I am waitlisted and likely miss my first night in Yosemite. He shared this with his manager beside him and the manager said give him somethig inaudible. I ended up with a small sedan. It was a nice car but I had to leave behind a nice cooler filled with snacks and groceries for Yosemite. It’s unfortunate when you make such efforts to plan so many things in advance and do your due diligence but a national company like this doesn’t honor their obligation. I got a survey from dollar at the conclusion of my rental and asked if I would like to be be reached by customer service. I stated yes and was told I would get a call within 72 hours but of course that call never happened.
I am confident a sedan rents for less than an SUV, but I am also confident that there is absolutely no recourse for me to get any type of discount even though they did not provide my original rental.

On July 21, 2024, I made a reservation to pick up a vehicle at 10 am at the São Francisco Rua O’Farrell store. However, upon arriving at the location at the agreed time, I was informed that the car was not available. I waited for two hours, without any concrete prediction of when the vehicle would be available. Faced with this situation, I ended up canceling the reservation, as I could no longer wait indefinitely. This experience was extremely frustrating and inconvenient, as it disrupted my plans and commitments for the day. I expected a more efficient and professional service, in line with the reputation your company has.

Terrible experience. Booked a gas regular sedan well in advance. As soon as I entered the branch, other customers and I were told that there are no gas cars and there were only electric. Some of us were ready to compromise and stood in line. As we were waiting, we heard them say they had cars with like 40% charge. They sat quietly as a bunch of us waited when they had only a handful of electric vehicles left. The least they could do is give us a head's up to look for alternative options. At the end of it, didn't get a car, only condescending attitude from the representatives. This location is terrible, my friends and I have experienced this way too many times. Do not bother booking with Dollar / Thrifty.

Slow, racist and rude experience. Wanted to bring my car to this location was told no by manager (Hieu Hoang)initially Was also told by his coworker "that the manager could make a exception if he wanted to but chose not to, for some reason, didnt make sense to him as they need cars, but not his call" We heard multiple cancellations and lost reservations. This location not worth your time or hassle. Do not reserve here if you are a POC or want peace of mind on your vacation.
