As an avid enthusiast of the pottery arts, I was thrilled to begin classes at Clay by the bay . Unfortunately, my excitement was short-lived due to the instructor's (Diane) lack of engagement and discriminatory behavior.
Despite my eagerness to learn and improve, I found myself repeatedly ignored when requesting assistance. My questions went unanswered, and my progress stalled as I struggled with the same issues, watching others receive the guidance I so desperately sought.
This consistent neglect not only hindered my learning but also left me feeling discriminated against--a sentiment no student should ever have to endure. The Diana's indifference to my pleas for help was disheartening and ultimately led me to make the difficult decision to leave the class.
I had hoped for a supportive environment where passion for pottery is matched with equal opportunity for instruction. Regrettably, this was not the case. I am now seeking a refund for the remainder of my sessions, a decision I never imagined I'd have to make when I first set foot in the studio.
For those considering Clay by the Bay , please be aware of these challenges. An art studio should be a place of learning and growth, not frustration and discrimination.

- It was not in the location I expected it to be when I first bought the 6 week course.
- When I got to the class, there was no running water and I had to clean my hands in a dirty bucket. For the amount I paid this is absurd.
- It was so loud in the room I couldn't hear the teacher sitting close to me because there were 4 classes happening simultaneously and at different paces. She also rushed through the explanation which is not very beginner friendly.
- The teacher also barely gave me any attention and this was my first time even touching clay. I felt so overwhelmed and left the experience more stressed when I should have felt better about it. The entire class, I just made clay wet- I didn't even build anything.
I asked for a refund over a month ago and they have been ghosting me. do not come here.

Clay By The Bay is an incredible studio!! I've been throwing ceramics for over 20 years, and CBTB is by far and away my favorite. I've been a member and taken multiple classes at CBTB, all of which I have enjoyed. The teachers are incredibly talented, and excited to share their knowledge. Overall it is clean, well-run, and attracts excellent potters. If you are unsure about signing up for a class, definitely go for it - there isn't a better studio out there!

I have been taking classes here for over a year and have loved every second. Crimson, Todd and Chris are incredibly knowledgable and gracious teachers. The community is welcoming and everyone encourages asking questions and learning new techniques. The class prices are worth it because you can access open studio hours 7 days a week -- so its up to you to get your money's worth. This place has become my second home!

6 week Intro class was awesome. Super fun way to learn a new skill or add a creative outlet to your week. I had Crimson as my instructor and she was awesome: walking us through basics, patient and flexible when I needed help, and just a cool person with great energy. Will be taking another class in the future.

I’ve taken 3 classes now (2 Intro, 1 Next Steps) at Clay by the Bay and love it! The Next Steps with Crimson was fantastic and she is just the best! She is so helpful, kind and gives you a lot of great advice. Her attitude made the whole class be much more friendly and fun than past classes which made it super fun. She clearly loves what she does and it shows in her energy! Highly recommend CBTB and definitely try to take a class with Crimson!

I’ve taken two 6-week classes at Clay by the Bay, and it’s been a wonderful experience. The instructors are thoughtful and extremely knowledgeable. I seriously look forward to class as the highlight of my week. Also, getting to go into the studio outside of class time is also a huge perk because it’s such a positive environment. Crimson is an incredible teacher and brings such great energy to her craft and her students.

My boyfriend and I went to our first ceramics class on 10/21/23 and it was such a great experience. Nikki and Emma are wonderful instructors and made the class so much fun. They guided us through molding, shaping, and designing our pieces with ease and honestly, everyone in the class was so nice and it was a great vibe. We will definitely be coming back!!

I can't say enough great things about Clay By The Bay. I've taken several beginner and intermediate wheel classes as well as hand building. I love how helpful and non judgmental everyone is, from the teachers to the other classmates to the studio members. They have a big variety of clay bodies and glazes to allow your imagination to go wild. I highly recommend taking a class here. You'll quickly fall in love and get addicted to pottery like I did
