I was mistakenly about to enter the back storage area of the store seeing how products were displayed there, not realizing it was a storage area. A store assistant shouted and afterwards charged at me; when I asked for an apology, he started swearing and at one point began threatening me with violence, without any threats or abuse from my end. I had to file a police report against the man.

Buddies market is very convenient, Paul the owner has to pass the connivence fee onto his customers just to stay in business considering he is right next door to the Canyon Market just to stay competitive, he carries quite a bit and if customer's ask for specific items, Paul will go out of his way to accommodate their requests. He is too small of a store for outside vendors to bother with or requesting an outrageous amount of product per month that he cannot order from the big boys so that leaves him having to do about 90% of item shopping by himself, he's a hard working man who has suffered in the past with an unfortunate attempt on his life that sometimes he doesn't smile, he's a good man who loves his family and his customer base, I've worked for him going on 5 years now and have earned his trust and respect, I work as hard as he does and together we keep the store up and running, he does not own the building therefore the outside look leaves little to desire but the landlord does not take any interest in keeping it from being an eyesore. The stores overhead is unbelievable it's very expensive just to turn the lights on much less open for 11 hours straight, new store hours are Saturday through Thursday 9:00am to 8:00pm and Friday 9:00am to 8:30pm Stop in and say hello to Paul, he would appreciate it if you took the time to say hello.

A store assistant shouted and afterwards charged at me; when I asked for an apology, he started swearing and at one point began threatening me with violence, asking me to show up after store hours to settle it 'man to man', without any threats or abuse from my end. I filed a police report against him afterwards. Don't take my word for it, read his retaliatory comment he left behind giving himself a 5 star (it was later removed from Yelp, along with my previous screenshot of the comment):

I've lived in Glen Park for almost 15 years now and Buddy's has been a constant staple for the community. During the pandemic when shelves where empty at most stores, Paul was able to get whatever I needed. More recently there as an item that was nearly impossible to get and Paul ordered it, personally picked it up and called me the next day. 5 stars all day!

Buddies is a super convenient location but the owner (?) is very unfriendly. There have been multiple occasions where I would ask: how you doing? Response: silence. There have also been a few times when we tried to cash in a winning lotto scratcher purchased there, albeit at 7:45pm and his response was: we're closed even though their doors were still open and their hours said they were open till 8. Another time I walked into get some beer, and he followed me around the store. I've lived in the neighborhood since 1987 and haven't ever experienced anything like this. Go to the corner store across the street from the Bart station. Much nicer. Shame on you Buddie's Market.

Paul is a hardworking man with a good heart. There used to be another rude/dangerous man who occasionally worked here but I think he’s gone now and Paul deserves success & happiness.

Great place and for that last person Erik for leaving a bad review because of an employee swing a chain ! That story Erik told is a complete lie, the employee is nothing but helpful I was there when that happened and Erik did not have a mask in and there was like ine minute before they close and the reason the employee had a chain is because a year ago someone tried to break in and messed up the front door, the chain is used to secure the door while the iron is there to protect the chained door, some people just like to make stuff up and the employee is a local and very friendly and helpful respectful person.

An employee has become very aggressive and accusatory of patrons from the neighborhood, swinging a chain in intimidation. Avoid during evening/night hours as this is when he is working.

I went in for a few things and walked out after being verbally abused by an employee for wearing a mask and trying to follow social distancing protocol and the law. When I complained to the owner he seemed intimidated by the other guy so I doubt anything will come of it. I won’t go back and unless you like to be threatened and abused I wouldn’t bother giving them the business.

Super rude employee and the owner seemed intimidated by him. After being called an a****** by the guy for wearing a mask as required by law I'll never go back.
