Cool shop with handmade clothing. Nice atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff. I bought a leather jacket there and the personalized label (embroidered) with my last name was sent to my home (Germany) as announced.

I gave them a $1500 jacket for tailoring that they said would be ready in 6 weeks.
8 weeks later, the day before the event I bought this jacket for, they are saying they can't find it. This is after 3 phone calls over the previous two weeks inquiring about the status, with them saying each time that they would get it to me by when I needed it.
When I finally did get to go pick it up, they hadn't even properly finished it - one of the sleeves was still stitched closed so the jacket was unwearable. They at least had the decency to drop it off by me after fixing it.
The owner promised me a refund during all this, but he went dark after I got the jacket back, so I never got anything.
After all that, the amount they charged me for this ended up being 4x what another tailor in the city later quoted me for.

Very special shop with made-to-measure clothing and shoes, leather jackets, bags and suits. We bought a leather jacket that will probably last a lifetime. The opposite of fast fashion!

Al's Attire is, should be, a national treasure! Seriously, this is a retail experience like no other. The minute you walk in you'll be arrested by the aroma of leather. The multitude of colourful bolts of fabric that line the tops of merchandise, shirts pants suits, dresses, shoes , and hats. The ready to wear merchandise alone would impress anyone. But it's what lies in the stockroom, the custom merchandise that has been specially crafted for various clients that would impress you. You will definitely get the sense that something very creative, unique is going on. Your imagination will be your only limitation. Al Ribaya, the owner proprieter, has ben dressing me immaculately since the opening of this store. Some of the pieces have been off the rack but a majority of them have been custom made pieces for various special events I have attended in the past. When ever you wear Al's Attire, people will comment this is a fact. Get ready to be interrogated as to the origin of your outfit or singular piece. Also, make sure you give yourself and Al's Attire enough time to craft your one of kind piece. Get ready to really live and wear your ultimate dreams!

Al is the Gem of North Beach. I remember when he had a smaller shop and then he expanded and started even making shoes. I've always wanted a blazer made for me. I finally pulled the trigger and got fitted, chose some amazing unique tweed fabric with a blue satin lining. Al knows his stuff! The quality is impeccable. I love my blazer and get tons of compliments! I love going in there and checking out all his new creation and visiting his doggie. It's like a sartorial wonderland. If you're reading this Al, thank you for adding value and energy to our divine city.

I love this place! Al is super and his staff very helpful. I can't wait to get the custom made jacket for my boyfriend's birthday. You get so many choices and they can even custom make shoes or purses! I love it here! Can't wait to buy more things!!

Giving Al's Attire 3 stars is generous. In November I brought my purse strap here to see if they could make another one for me. Renee said if I give him the strap with the hardware he could make one for me and I didn't have to come back when the new leather strap came in to measure it. I thought, ok, it'll save me a trip. He said it would take 2 weeks. Since it was around the holidays, I said I'll follow up with them after. Some weeks passed and no update. I was in town in January and came by. When I asked about my project, Renee brought out a purse that wasn't mine. He said my strap might be at the studio and he'll call. I hadn't heard back and I called again and Renee finally found my purse strap and then said he remembered that he ordered a strap and wasn't satisfied with the width of it. But that was never communicated to me. Somewhere down the line the tag on my old purse strap was lost. So I suspect that's why I didn't hear back and the project was forgotten.Anyway, he finally found my purse strap after I had to call again and ordered new leather for it. Once he found the purse strap in late January (finally), I then received the purse strap quickly via FedEx (no charge) in early February. The purse strap is good quality and fits my purse (hence the 3 stars). I am relieved that my purse strap wasn't lost. Overall, I had to call many times and it took 2.5 months to complete this small project. I like what they do (custom purses, clothes, shoes) but I do not have a desire to work with them in the future given this experience with them.

I've been coming here for a couple years now to get my dresses, jeans, and jackets tailored. Recently I've come in to get my wedding reception dresses altered as well as my husband's wedding tuxedos, and they nailed it! Everything fit perfectly, and if we weren't happy with something, they were super accommodating. Overall, friendly and amazing service and talent! This will be one of those places I'll be coming to for years on end!

I want to preface this with the fact that I had high hopes for this store and the tailor. I had an N1 deck jacket made, spent nearly an hour in there with fitting, selection of materials and design only for it to not be made the way I asked. On top of that, the jacket fit, slightly too tight but I went home with it figuring it may break in. To my dismay the jacket would not let my arms reach forward (think Chris Farley in the movie Tommy Boy). I proceeded to drive from San Jose back to San Francisco four times over the course of several weeks to get the jacket to fit right but my arms would still not move forward when seating (like driving a car with it on). I'm now out over $1000 if you count the gas I burned and the Jacket still doesn't fit. I was recently contacted by Al and he told me that the jacket had been completely remade without my knowledge and wouldn't you know it...the collar still was incorrect. I'm now out a sizeable amount of money and being forced to sell a custom jacket that still doesn't fit me correctly with the wrong collar on eBay. Needless to say I will not be returning to this store in the near future...
