I rarely gush over a place in a Yelp review that doesnt serve Amazing Food or is a hotel in front a beach but here goes. I joined Alex Fitness in early March 2020, just before the pandemic and have loved it so much I stayed for 4 years now. (their Google/Yelp reviews are close to perfect for a reason) I enjoyed that AlexFitness is a family-owned gym, led by Olga and her team, offers a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that's hard to find elsewhere in the area. Not only is the pricing more affordable than SF Fitness or Live Fit nearby, but the quality of the equipment and the less crowded space make for a relaxed workout environment without some of the more distracting and more disruptive gym behavior that I experienced at a lot of packed Corporate gyms in the area. The machines are good quality and well-maintained, the place is very clean, providing everything needed for a solid workout. Although I haven't used the personal trainers myself, I've did observe them to be very professional with their clients. A big added bonus, the location is fantastic - right on Market in the Castro, making it super convenient. I cant reccomend Alex Fitness enough this is the spot.

Best staff in the city. Circa 1980's style gym with all the equipment you could need. Most amazing people work here and did more than enough to help me with my membership. I have come in during holiday hours cause I totally forgot and the workers let me lift well past closing time. This is a true community if you want one in SF. I wish I still lived there for this gym alone - also it is NEVER too packed during peak times. Would give more stars if I could.

After several years as a member of Alex Fitness Gym, I decided to explore the possibility of hiring a personal trainer for the first time.I selected a few potential candidates featured on the gym website and, before scheduling an in-person consultation, contacted them via email to inquire about their certifications, certification acquisition dates, tenure at the gym, prior work experience, pricing, and availability.Given my limited knowledge of the Certified Personal Trainers' fitness domain, I began gathering information from their responses. To my surprise, this process uncovered a questionable validity in the qualification presented by one of the gym's acclaimed “Certified" Personal Trainers, a situation that Alex Fitness gym unprofessionally established and continues to endorse.Understandably, legitimate organizations meticulously adhere to stringent standards to uphold the credibility and authenticity of their certifications. This involves implementing rigorous examination protocols, including the incorporation of proctored exams or robust online monitoring systems designed to forestall any potential breaches of integrity.Furthermore, these evaluations often encompass time constraints and a diverse array of question formats, ensuring a comprehensive appraisal of the candidate's proficiency and grasp of the subject matter.Conversely, an organization purporting to be reputable yet relying solely on online assessments lacking proctoring or time constraints and predominantly featuring simplistic true or false questions inevitably casts doubt on the legitimacy and validity of the certification process.Regrettably, this appears to be the prevailing issue surrounding the International Fitness ASSOCIATION (I.F.A.), the certification body from which the concerning trainer acquired his credentials. (NOT to be confused with another existing I.F.A., the International Fitness ACADEMY, which is totally legit). The disconcerting aspect remains how a well-regarded establishment like Alex Fitness Gym can wholeheartedly lend its unequivocal endorsement to an individual whose professional proficiency rests upon the fragile foundation of an expediently acquired and potentially dubious certification. It is crucial to conduct comprehensive research in advance to ensure that the trainers' expertise and credentials align with the industry's prevailing standards, particularly considering the significant fees they charge for their services.

My favorite gym to do some deadlifts when I’m visiting San Francisco! I usually use ClassPass to get access to the open gym.well-stocked with weights and equipment, and friendly vibes!

If you're looking for a gym where you won't feel judged, Alex Fitness is the place. It's not too crowded, and the trainers are awesome. I'm actually excited to work out!

If you're like me and consider lifting the TV remote a daily workout, you'll love Alex Fitness. They have the most motivational fitness classes! I even considered becoming a professional hula-hooper after their 'Hula for Health' class. It's that inspiring!

Equipment is off-brand and worn down. Staff usually isn’t around. Social gym rather than a workout space. The layout is cramped.

pricey but has all the equipment and space you could need + very helpful staff and a comfortable environment for women, so it's worth it! the hours are also great.

Got a single month membership on a visit. They've got everything in a small space without it feeling crowded. Love it!
