Booked on line via Holiday Autos from the UK. Easy to do. Noted the reviews before I collected the car this morning. There were a few people in front of me in the line but moved quickly. Took about 15 minutes. The staff were very helpful particularly Sylvia who was fantastic. Very helpful and friendly service. The car was ready to collect from the parking area down the road. Very clean and much nicer than I expected. Would highly recommend Alamo. Much better experience than I had with a different company in Portland last week!

Never seen as much incompetence in one place. 45min waiting time until they managed to print out the rental papers (everything booked online, checkin online done by myself already) where the only value add of the clerk was to write down my arrival & departure dates to the US. Afterwards 30min waiting time to finally get A car - not what I asked for and not even big enough to fit my family and baggage inside… there where plenty bigger cars available but free upgrade is not something Alamo considers an option even though they are unable to meet the contract!

We had booked a pickup for 10 a.m., were there at 10 a.m. and there are no cars. We've been standing at Alamo without a car for an hour and a half, I've never experienced anything like that. Next time we'll go back to the airport, we've never had these problems...

Could not be less efficient if they tried. Hour and a half to pick up a rental car that was pre-booked. Would have been faster to Uber to the airport and pick up a car than deal with this place.

Never again. I booked the car for 10:30 and arrived with Uber at 10:05 and then saw a queue stretching far down the sidewalk. It took me over 70 minutes in line to get to the counter only to hear that I should do an online check-in first. That's what I did at the counter: reservation number, name, driver's license details, etc. WHY do Alamo employees still need to be at the counter if I have to do all the work? The employee processed everything and then told me that I should wait another 10 minutes for the car because there was so much going on at the distribution point. WHAT is the poor planning of the Alamo? Alamo knows when which customers want to pick up which type of vehicle and can prepare employees and vehicles accordingly. I got the wrong car class at first. After discussion, a car with over 50,000 miles, i.e. a “worn out” thing. Was finally in the rental car 2 hours late. CONCLUSION: Alamo is haphazard and as a customer I feel ripped off. RECOMMENDATION: get an Uber or Waymo and drive from downtown to the airport and go to another rental company there

The pick-up in San Francisco went well, the people were friendly. But then we had a car breakdown (flat tire) on the way to LA and called the ALAMO assistance at 11 am. Although we were promised that help was on the way, no one came until after 5 pm in the afternoon. So we stood on the side of the road in Guadelupe CA for around 6 hours waiting for help in the heat (with 3 children). We kept calling Alamo in between (costing us several hundred dollars) and were told that help was on the way and we should wait. We felt very uncomfortable (nothing to eat, 3 impatient children) and were afraid we would have to stay in the car all night. For this reason, we looked for a nice local resident who then drove us to the airport which was more than a one hour drive away (this cost us another several hundred dollars) - we tried to get an UBER but in this place we couldn't get one since it was in the middle of nowhere). After some discussion, we were able to get a new car there (first, they told us to wait until our other car was towed away but then they felt some compassion and let us leave with a car. Once again, the people there were nice but Alamo's rules made it difficult for them to help us). The car we got was a cheaper class than the one we had rented.
As we had not received any help from Alamo during the breakdown of our car (despite the full insurance package) and we had to use a smaller vehicle for more than 2 weeks, we wanted to have a refund confirmed by Alamo before our trip home from the USA to compensate us for our inconvenience. We were put off until the vehicle was returned. When we dropped it off in Las Vegas, we were told that we could only be given a small amount of compensation because the contract runs via San Francisco (but the small amount of compensation was not transferred to us either). Because we had to get on the flight, we didn't have time to discuss it any longer. Here, too, the people were friendly, but it was not possible to give us a refund for the smaller car and the other things we had to pay because we didn't get assistance (phone calls, drive to the airport in a private car,...).
Back in Switzerland, we had one telephone contact and a promise of a small compensation, which we rejected because it was simply ridiculous (by the way, nothing has been paid out yet, it was just promises). We haven't heard anything from Alamo since September 2023. We are told to call some hotline, but that doesn't work either because they tell the whole story 100 times and then never follow up. I would like an email address and a solution to our problem. We would still be interested in finding a solution and we still need help. It would be great if somebody could reach out to us.

We were able to return our car here very quickly and easily without any further complications. All the ladies and gentlemen were very friendly.
Note: the car can be dropped off directly in the neighboring street - here is the address: 261 Ellis St, San Francisco, CA 94102, United States

I'm a bit late with this review, however ..
I hired a car for 10 days in January/Feb and would like to record my satisfaction with Alamo at this location. I'd had a very bad experience with a competitor (Hertz in UK) in 2023 and Alamo were like a breath of fresh air in comparison.
Easy and clear contract - executed exactly as promised. In particular I'd like to thanks Mark Aguillar at check in who helped me change the type of car from the one previously booked and gave clear and easy intructions (to an overseas visitor) on usage, fuel, road tolls etc. I'd highly recommend Alamo and will most certainly use in the future.

Had a reservation for a mid size SUV and picked it up in SF, staff was friendly and let us choose between two cars. Got a brand new Toyota RAV 4 then. Returned it at LV airport, staff was also friendly. No problems overall, would choose Alamo again

All employees were helpful with our car renting experience. My car was late due to a washing problem, but after waiting for a while they provided me with an upgraded car.

Great place to pick up a rental car! We‘ve rented with Alamo and even though it was quite busy in the morning, we were being attended to quickly and friendly. Jade was an outstanding service agent, super professional and helpful. Would definitely rent a car there again.

The check-in process was quite quick, we rented a medium sedan car and they assigned us a larger Dodge type car, they even offered us a Tesla for the same price. The return was fast too, the girl who receives the cars was very friendly
