THIS is what Yoga is all about!! As the practice becomes more of a fad, the focus of yoga is shifting away from body maintenance towards tight abs and fancy poses. Here, the focus is on recognizing what your body needs and how you can fix it. Shashi and Yumi approach class as guides for what you can do at home, recognizing that YOU are your own best healer. I started going here in 2013 after a bad car accident and have since completed my Yoga Teacher Training and am STILL happy to be a consistent student. It's absolutely "different" from what you may think of when you hear the word "yoga" - check it out for yourself!!

I go once a week to see Yumi, and I'm very satisfied what the stretches can do to our body.I have been going at this center on and off for yrs, and keep coming back for more. It's not a current trend. It fix our body, ( and mind) from our daily stressors from work, pandemic, inflation. Yumi has classes that are small, and she is a splendid yoga teacher.

I've been coming here for 4 or 5 years now. It's the only yoga I've ever stayed committed to. Shashi doesn't focus on making perfect-looking poses, he focuses on what your body (and mind, etc.) needs to be healthy. No yoga-flavored-aerobics here! I can all but guarantee you won't get hurt here. It's like a fusion of physical therapy and yoga (plus philosophy, meditation, etc.). No pretzels, and if you're stiff you won't stand out or be humiliated with "alternative" poses and props. There are no props here - no need. He doesn't ask of your body what it won't do willingly. No mirrors either. You stretch and contract according to your abilities that day and NOT to achieve a straight line or perfect curve. Before coming here I had chronic shoulder pain from computer work. Now, I only get that pain if I miss a week of yoga. If you have more will power than me, you can easily learn everything you need to know from a few classes, then practice at home (remember, no props or mirrors needed), then maybe come in once a season to stay current and get new ideas. Bottom line: Shashi is trying to make your body/mind/soul as healthy as can be. His practice is entirely doable for just about any body.

I am very fortunate to have found the Yoga and Meditation Center on a recent work trip to San Diego. Shashi's techniques are like nothing I have ever witnessed. His teachings are life changing and I am grateful to be able to take the practice home with me through his book. Now if I can just do this on my own! If you live in this area, then consider yourself VERY lucky to have this master available to you! Shashi and Yumi are gracious hosts. Thank you from the depth of my soul!

If you are looking for a deeper meaning of yoga this is the right place for you. Shashi is a true yogi growing up in the most spiritual part of India. You will never have 2 same clasess and every time will leave the studio with a much better state of mind and body. Amazing energy and people.

MlI have been going to Yoga and Meditation Center for almost 10 years. I should have written this review years ago! Shashi, who owns the Center is an excellent teacher who has been practicing and teaching yoga forever. He is a wonderful teacher who knows very well the human body and what it needs. His classes are at once challenging and relaxing. Also, his assistant,Yumi, is a wonderful and talented teacher in her own right! I love the fact that these teachers are older and more experienced (Shashi is from India). Instead of showing off what they know, they focus on teaching you to improve/ heal your body and relax!

I have been going for yoga and meditation for last couple of months... It's been amazing. Shashi is a great mentor and an amazing Human. He helps us believe in the power of healing and helps us find our healer. Shashi and Yumi are so good and what amazes me is how well they know each of their students. Last few months of breathing techniques and meditation has made me more relaxed, positive, confident and given a new perspective to life. Thank you Shashi aten.

My better half has been a loyal Shashi student for many years, and has been pushing me to become a Shashi student for some time, and especially so when I had been the victim of work related stresses brought on by a new, hostile boss. Having simply imagined yoga to be more of a fad that is practiced in various boutique studios, I at first resisted, but then decided to give Shashi's beginner classes a try. If this is what yoga is about, then I waited too long. Shashi and Yumi reinforce that yoga is about body and mind management, that you can be in control of your own body at all times. And teach it in away that their students can take the knowledge home as a guide to continue the practice at home. Shashi combines the physical and breathing routines with sharing his knowledge about maintaining and improving your body and emotional health. I could not be happier that I am now part of Shashi yoga. family.
