I always thought dealerships had the logistics and manpower to do more with delicate attention to detail and strict adherence to compliance and specifications so I hesitated to tow my legendary 2009 Honda Pilot Touring V6 4WD to a small mom-&-pop repair shop like this at first because my engine died with almost no hope, but Vo's Auto Repair brought my vehicle back to life with a newer engine, and I was thoroughly impressed with Mr. Tuan's attention to detail, due diligence, hard work, dedication, and sincere care for my vehicle as if it was his own. It was like magic how one man like him can disassemble an entire engine piece by piece, show you what each part looks like inside, replace every worn out or broken part, clean up parts that need to be cleaned, replace filters, refill all fluids, rotate and inflate tires, and even optimize settings for long life, fuel economy, and local emissions standards. Talk about logistics, he was able to replace my entire engine with a newer one with low miles through his connections and completely installed it in my vehicle in less than 1 week, a feat that would have taken the Honda dealership more than 3 weeks. He has done more work on my vehicle in less than 1 week than all the work that was done by the Honda dealership in the 5 years I owned the vehicle combined, with a newer engine, new timing belt, new tensioner, new linkage, new serpentine belt, new mounts, new hinges, new brackets, new filters, new gaskets, new reservoir caps, new fluids, it feels like a new vehicle when it was finished and when I drove it off his lot, it almost looked like he was somewhat emotionally attached to my vehicle like a dad saying goodbye to his college-bound kid, because he put so much dedication and effort into it, I had to wave goodbye as I saw him still standing there watching me drive off with the vehicle he put so much care and love into. Fortunately, I was able to get a loan to pay for the repairs and newer engine because he truly deserved the business far beyond my expectations of a small mom-&-pop repair shop. I feel like I got a lot of value from leveraging his knowledge, expertise, experience, diligence, passion for excellence, and connections in getting the very thorough care my vehicle needed. After seeing what he can do, I trust him more now than the Honda dealership. For the same amount of money or less, even on a tight budget, he can and will definitely put more work into your vehicle in both parts and labor than what the dealership can do because of all the overhead expenses and other inefficiencies dealerships have to deal with.

A friend had recommended VO AUTO REPAIR. She has been having her car serviced for over 20 years with him. I took my car in to have my front brakes done and a battery check. The Dealership told me that I needed both services done. I did need front brakes, however I did not need a new battery. Vo cleaned the terminals where the battery connects and that is all I needed. I was so pleased that I finally found an honest and affordable mechanic!!I strongly recommend VO auto repair.C Sanchez

Vo is a gifted mechanic and an amazing problem solver. While other mechanics don't take the time to figure out what's causing a problem, Vo will research it and find creative solutions for fixing all types of cars. His repair work is excellent. He and his wife are so generous, friendly and patient. They listen and explain. I have been taking my cars there for more than 12 years. They also took great care of my mom's car. Their prices are fair. I recommend them highly.

The best!! Our car overheated and we had to make a 5 hour drive to Nevada with nowhere to sleep if we couldn’t make it that night. Turned out our water pump was leaking so we drove right across the street to Vo’s hoping they could help us. It was a Saturday and they were supposed to close at 2pm. Not only did he stop what he was working on to help us, we made it to Nevada! He replaced our water pump, belt, coolant, and thermostat. Gave us chairs to sit on while we waited and he fixed it in around 2 hours. Even did a drive test to make sure we wouldn’t end up stranded on our trip. Him and his wife were so kind and helpful! Thank you so much!

Vo has been my family's mechanic for 31 years. Whenever anyone has any car trouble, the first thing we always ask each other is "Have you talked to Vo about it?" If the answer is "no," we say "Well, call him and see what he says!" Our reason for always going to Vo is simple: he is a knowledgeable, honest, hard-working mechanic... and if our cars need services that he does not specialize in, he always has a referral. For the most part, I've only ever taken my car to Vo for really big repairs; engine swaps and rebuilds and catalytic converter replacements were the major ones. My poor Miata had been sitting for months with a blown engine and in need of extensive repairs and a couple miracles from the inactivity. Vo was up-front about the reality of my situation; I could either rebuild it or swap it out, but a rebuild would cost closer to $6,000-9,000 depending on the rent of the damage while a swap would be cheaper, but it could take time to source an engine. Vo called around and found a low-mileage engine from Japan for my car and found that my car had been leaking oil from multiple points surrounding the engine. After he replaced the engine, sealed everything up, and serviced the other damaged areas of my car as a result of the oil leak, the car is in even better condition that it was when I bought it. It operates and handles smoother than ever and the engine oil is so clean, you can't even see it on the dipstick. The cost of the repairs was very reasonable considering all the parts and labor involved in such a big job. I've always been impressed with Vo on many levels, but he often exceeds my expectations. After my last service with Vo, it's easy to see why he has earned the trust of my family. I can't see myself taking any of my vehicles anywhere else. So if you're reading this and you're worried about the state of your car, understand that it is always worth it to call Vo and talk about your options.

I trust Vo working on both my vehicles in the past. I had a 2009 Honda Accord that had a transmission problem that wasn't shifting to gears. AAMCO wanted 4K+ to rebuild it. Vo was able to rebuild my transmission for under 1.5k. He will tell you what the problem is if there is one and how he will fix it. His auto shop isn't the most glamorous on the corner block but don't let that deter you from how good this car mechanic is.

My entire family and I have been going to Vo's for years. I now live in San Marcos but still prefer to drive down to see Vo for any car maintenance I have. Vo works with you to find the optimal and most cost-effective way to help repair your vehicle. Customer service is a priority at Vo's. I would recommend this repair shop to anyone.
