This vet's office is amazing! I've never had a bad experience. They are so nice and thorough and their prices are so reasonable! They never upcharge or try and get you to agree to something that you don't need. They are so compassionate and really listen to what you are saying. You can really trust them! I highly recommend them!!

The veterinarian was very nice and they did their best for Homer, my cat who had cancer. It was a weird situation where we had to rely on the veterinarian’s gut, since my cat was rapidly declining and the test results kept getting delayed. Us relying on the vet’s gut kept Homer from suffering for days, since we had to put him down. I really appreciate the accuracy and experience the vet had. They were very willing to put up with my constant phone calls when my cat was alive. She also called us a few days later to check on us.

I’ve been taking my dogs and cats here for many years. They always provided excellent care for a reasonable fee but my last visit was a disappointment. Instead of the vet coming into the exam room, my dogs were taken back to be examined without me present so I wasn’t able to hear comments or concerns noted during the exam or ask any questions, or express my concerns. I hope this is a temporary policy due to COVID. If not, I most likely won’t be returning.

Dear Rancho Mesa Animal Hospital: Thank you for your dedication to my beloved Chief's lifelong health and emotional well-being. He truly loved being there. Now that he's pain- and illness-free, I know he has vigor and playfulness once again under the eternal care of our Maker. Chief's forever in my heart. When it's my time, I look forward to when he and I will finally be together once more. Until then, please know that you have my abundant appreciation for all the care that you've given him throughout his life.

We’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember. My cat is 16 and in wonderful health. I’ve also had to put a pet down here and they were very sweet and sympathetic. They are flexible in their availability and easy to schedule with. Would recommend to any pet owner!

Things changed after Dr. Volk retired from his practice, and definitely not for the better. He was patient and thorough in his examinations and most importantly kept the pet parent advised of his findings during the exam and discussed various alternatives for treatment. it appears many of the same excellent vets are still working there there but I don't even know the name of the vet I saw yesterday, but I felt She rushed the examinations of my two dogs and apparently didn't look at their charts because she gave my 14 year old multiple vaccinations all at the same time, when when this dog has a history of idiopathic thrombocytopenia and is supposed to have her vaccines spread out over time, and she is not supposed receive the rabies vaccine at all, but I didn't think about that at the time either so I'm even more at fault there.

The staff here is incredibly rude. Unfortunately with BethAnne's passing it seems that new management has no care to continue friendly phone manners. Will not be returning again.

We’ve been bringing our pups here for years and love all of the different veterinarians and vet techs. They have taken wonderful care of our animals throughout the years.

I’ve always thought this place was a little odd… unfriendly front office staff, the phone rarely answered, and strange doctors. But my animals haven’t needed much beyond routine care, and the prices were decent so I dealt with it. But today I called because my dog has been sick all weekend, and I was told by a very frazzled, rude, and unapologetic woman that they are scheduling a week out and I need to take my dog elsewhere. I pushed a little, asking if they could get us in tomorrow, but she (again very rudely) told me a few names of other places that I should take my dog. I told her I was disappointed because a week out for an appointment is a long time, and she laid into me saying I should have called at 8am (it was 8:30a when I called), that they’re down a doctor, and can’t manage their intake. No apologetic tone or mention of how they’re trying to fix the problem. Just a “deal with it” attitude. She then hung up on me. I was floored at the interaction. Beyond bad service! I ended up calling another vet’s office called Grand Animal Hospital in Pacific Beach. The woman who answered the phone was warm and polite, and she got us in to see the vet right away. It was a night and day experience compared to my interaction with Rancho Mesa. All of my dog’s records have been transferred to the new vet’s office and I will not be going back to Rancho. Save yourself the trouble and frustration and don’t use this office for your animals.

Been going here for over 30 years. I have gotten great care for all my pets at a reasonable cost. They never try and push you into getting unnecessary treatments or medications.
