We were tempted by the "going out of business" sign. We were greeted with immediate red flags: 1) lots of fake designer jewelry (fake cartier, fake van clef). 2) owner was desperate to sell me diamond earrings that were NOT certified. They also did not have screw backs. He kept lowering the price which was sketchy. 3) the owner tried to put a necklace on my friend and was super super creepy, grabbing and massage her neck and making her feel so uncomfortable. She was so shaken about the experience, I'm so angry this happened. Avoid!

Spent great time here, got a bracelet myself. Really nice discount these days cause they are going to close off the store. The owner showed me over 5 bracelets and found me the perfect one!

Creepy old man with his teeth falling out crabbed my breast and was thrusting his pelvic area into me when putting on my necklace. BEWARE!!!

Wanted to leave a review even though I know they will be closing when they eventually get rid of inventory as Owner will be retiring. I went in with my fiancé and we had a great experience with both Shirley and Benny. I wasn't planning on buying anything really but we tried on some engagement rings for fun after seeing some spectacular pieces. Despite some of the negative reviews I would say the discounts reflect a someone retiring and clearing a large inventory after going decades in the jewelry business. The family knows jewelers and later bought a ring for myself from a different jewelry who is nephew of this owner. I would say the owner is very friendly and maybe a little Flirtatious, but me and my beautiful fiancé would agree it's good-natured and unthreatening. On a practical not the ring I bought appraised for 90% more than I paid for it it with my insurance company which confirmed I got a ring my fiancé loves for a great price. Thanks Ben

I'm from Arizona and I have purchased a lot of jewelry from everywhere including jewelry shows at wholesale prices and I purchased a beautiful unusual bracelet at a GREAT price. I get compliments on it all the time! The staff was very attentive and super polite. I would definitely buy from them again.

We came in for the sale, I found a ring that I really liked. The owner was there and he made me a great deal. I was so happy to leave with a beautiful ring and the appraisal right then and there. I will definitely be back and send my family.

I rarely write reviews but am compelled to warn potential customers about Prospect. I bought a necklace and admit it was a spontaneous purchase. Once I got the necklace home, I realized the quality was very poor after comparing with similar items on line. In sum, even though I was purportedly given a significant discount, I was overcharged. I never wore the necklace and decided to return it. When I went to return the necklace, I was greeted by a scowling owner. He first tried to claim I paid a lot less for the item than I paid. Luckily, I had a receipt. Benny then steered me to less expensive items he claimed were an even exchange. After looking at several items, it was clear to me that he was making i up prices as we went along. He wanted to make money off the exchange. I didn't trust a word he said. I exchanged the necklace for a different one and am quite certain I lost on the deal, again overcharged. I was refused a new receipt and mocked for wanting one. Normally, I would have raised the roof off the place, but I honestly just wanted to get out of there. The vibe is super creepy, as other reviewers have described. It is not a reputable establishment. Find a real jeweler.

As far as I can tell this entire business is a scam built around fooling tourists who only come in to town once. As a tour guide in London once told us, "that business must really be struggling, they have been going out of business for 10 years now." As far as I can tell the jewelry is much lower quality than the list prices would indicate. And I'm used to getting paperwork with cut, clarity, etc. but they didn't seem to have any. I've never seen that. Also the old man is really handsy. He rested his entire hand on my wife's chest while looking at her diamond necklace. He was so natural about it she didn't even realize until after. I've been in other jewelry stores and they are incredibly respectful of personal space.

CREEPY CREEPY CREEPY VIBES! Do not go here alone or without someone to protect you. The guys followed me around the whole time wayyy too close and were VERY inappropriate about my looks. If I could give it negative stars I would. Go somewhere else, please. I was legitimately afraid for my safety as we were literally locked in the store until they would let us out with the buzzer.

1 star is waaay too generous for this place. I went in on a whim and had an odd experience here. An elderly man kept asking me to go to dinner with him and for my phone number after following me around the showroom floor. Is this how the fine jewelry business in La Jolla runs, with creepy old men hitting on potential clientele? I'll gladly support other businesses that train their staff to look the customer in the face and not stare at their chest the whole time. It's no surprise it's closing.

We just had the most amazing experience with Benny and Leora. We found the most beautiful cross in the window and they were delightful people. We will most definitely come backThanks LeeAnne & Patrick

I wish there was a way to give no stars. My husband and I went inside after seeing a necklace and ring in the window that caught our eyes. Once inside looking in one of the cases a salesman walked by us and never spoke. After the second salesman walked by without speaking, I told my husband they obviously don’t serve people our color or accept our money. We took pictures of the items and sent them to our personal jeweler. Luckily they’re closing soon.... No one else will have to be ignored and treated less than.

Unfortunately, a 0 rating is not possible. My husband and I just bought a home in the area and closed yesterday. We decided to come and look around the area and patronize some of our local businesses. My husband saw a necklace in the window, I saw a beautiful ring. We went inside ready to purchase. Two different sales men walked by us and didn't even acknowledge us as we were looking in one of the cases. I finally looked at my husband and let him know the color of our skin and our money obviously was not accepted there. We left our and continued our day. We took a picture of the jewelry we liked to show our personal jeweler who will happily find whatever. On a high note their going out of business, so no one else will experience what we did!
