I've only been here a few times but so far, so good. I came in the morning when they opened and I only had to wait 15 mins. I found the pharmacist helpful. Plus, I ran over to the patriot store and did a little shopping. They have nice stuff there. I bought a t-shirt.

This pharmacy is the reason machines are starting to replace everyone’s jobs. I was getting my anxiety meds. The first person I talked to said it was okay. I waited for maybe 2 hours and my name never appeared on the board (really my fault, I should’ve checked what was going on after the first hour). I went back and they (first of all) claimed that “We’ve been looking for you all day long!” I was there 2 hours, that isn’t all day and it felt like the customer service lady was taking a “Woe is me” approach instead of simply apologizing for the wait. Like, I was in the waiting room, how hard should it have been to find me? Anyway, because of my perceived attitude, she now started throwing a fit about I take too much of the meds and I need to wait when that was never mentioned until she had a “problem” with me. I fought her about it and got the meds anyway. She warned me that my psychiatrist was going to call me and give me a “stern talking to.” I said, “no he won’t,” and the woman shook her head in anger. Sure enough, she was full of it. The psychiatrist never talked to me about it and I never heard anything further. Again, a machine could’ve done a better job. I’m just annoyed that so many woman working basic jobs in the VA have an attitude and like they have to prove something. You’d be on the streets if the VA wasn’t taking advantage of you by giving you a “job”. Relax. If you have the intelligence of a chicken, just do your job and keep to yourself. It isn’t that hard,

Most of the staff is amazing. Some though have a tendency to treat all prescription deviations as abuse, which makes sense, but they're not leaving room for error and complications. Not facilitating abuse is good practice and obviously going to be how they operate, but what about the people who don't fall into the abuse bin or the stable bin. I have struggled pretty hard due to the fact that they can't provide consistent medicine brands. Usually that's not a problem, but every once in a while, it will be. That's just life. But there doesn't seem to be any procedures in place for these unlucky few. Had they not switched brands halfway through treatment then back and forth a few more times, I would be in a more desirable place health wise today. Someone who just wants to get high wouldn't go through all that trouble when they could just buy from the street as much and as often as they want. This is not a problem specific to this facility though, it's just a human problem. We don't like so many bins, we try to put as many people into a bin as possible for our convenience and those few that need a new separate bin just have to foot the bill.

I was treated like a second class citizen at the Jacob's pharmacy, after I tried to feel my wife's medication after her liver transplant. They questioned me like if I was a drug addicted an then made me sit there for an hour and half before they would tell me they would not fill her perception. Well my wife sat out in the hospital parking lot in the hot car. Which I thought was very unprofessional. Due to us being from Montana and here in California as guest and here for a transplant surgery at the same facility. So the surgery team was great and we are grateful to them . The pharmacy staff does not take any of that in to consideration though and are very rude and do not seem to care about people's health or urgent medical needs. I would never ever have a perception filled here again. I would rather dive to ucsd Hillcrest.

I strongly disagree with the below reviews. As a 100% rated veteran, I can say that the VA La Jolla and the outpatient pharmacy is one of the best in the system. If you are trying to do something sketchy like refill narcotics 3 weeks early then like any pharmacy in the US they are going to have a problem with you. But if you are following the rules and doing the right thing they are fantastic.

They always mess up prescriptions in some way and give you a big great attitude with absolutely no compassion or empathy when you call about it. this is how veterans struggling with mental illness are treated by these people, they seriously don't care and act like you're a big inconvenience when it's their job to assist you in anyway possible. You seriously have to call multiple people to get an HONEST answer about your own medicine you NEED to live. Disgusting

Great service! Sometimes there is a bit of a line after checking in, but the pharmacy techs usually do an awesome job at keeping up a fast pace and working through the people. Average wait time in my exp over 4+ years is about 15 minutes or so, not bad at all considering the huge volume of vets they serve! All of the pharmacists are helpful as well and can (and will) instant message your providers at other SD area VA clinics if there's an issue with your refill etc. Good service
