professional photographer in San Diego. I’ve been going to NELSON‘s for 30 years, This was always the best camera and supply store. I went again today, knowing the store is under a new ownership, and I could not believe what I saw. The biggest selection of any camera store I’ve ever been in and the latest gear. The store was packed with the best merchandise and is virtually a whole new place. They had the latest camera gear that was simply unavailable anywhere else in the country, and they “bend over backwards” to help customers. I had heard that the company that bought Nelson’s has one of the largest stores in the country in Las Vegas and wanted a footprint in San Diego. I never thought I would see anything like this in San Diego. And the best part is, they still have Becky Printing the pictures in the lab, huge relief since she is the best printer in San Diego and has been doing it for decades. If you haven’t seen Nelsons in the last couple months, SEE IT AGAIN……..FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Tell me why it took a month to get all my film back, with several hiccups along the way. Dropped off 3 rolls on the 9/3 and finally picked up the final one around 9/26 after two phone calls and 1 in store visit. Idk what happened here, my last experience at Nelson's was years ago and it went 10x smoother than this last time. My prints also had some printing errors, a black bar on the bottom of the pics that isn't on the negatives or scans. Baseball cap girl employee was fake nice in person but not over the phone, she tersely asked if I "checked my spam" and I could hear in the voice they didn't care so I said "thank you bye" and hung up the phone because I would rather deal with someone else. The next day in person her tone was completely different and she was pretending to care now and said I'd get a call back for that final roll which they couldnt find and thought might be at their sister office (never did get that call back). Keith was the only helpful one and offered an apology for the confusion and didn't know why my prints and negatives weren't at the store the previous week I had come to pick them up.
Also never got a confirmation email or text (I opted in) for pickup. Only got emails of scanned files.

I had not been to Nelson’s in several years. I was pleased to find the service and selection is as good as ever. Clark was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful.

I came here to print some photos. Print quality is ok, The Black gentleman working there was helpful and polite, the rest of employees just didn’t care when I came to the store and didn’t offer any help.
So, the main reason why it’s 2 stars because of the photo processing speed. When I paid for the pictures, only after that I was warned that I had to wait 2-3 to get my pictures done. I was surprised, I thought they were going to draw pictures because it’s weird to wait 2-3 days for a photo to be printed when this process in regular stores is automated and doesn't take more than 10 minutes. Only then I was offered an express printout for $15. I agreed, but it looked more like a scam.

Kudos to Clark at Nelson’s Photo & Video in Point Loma. After spending hours online and via telephone to update my Nikon Z camera, I went to Nelson’s for assistance. Clark did the job in just a few minutes. What was special was his warm, caring demeanor and his kind attitude. He was so friendly and I truly enjoyed talking with him. I came into the store stressed and left in high spirits.

This happened a year ago but I still haven’t recovered. Nelson photo lost 2 rolls of my film. One was very special, it had 8 months of memories from my travels across the world (the only pictures I took throughout my travels because normally you can count on getting your film back) and the other roll was for a client who was very upset. Completely wasted their time and my money.
Nelson only offered me a 20$ refund but I’d pay anything to get my photos.

Have gone to Nelson’s a few times to get film photos developed and it’s been a headache every time. Usually took 3-4 weeks and multiple calls and emails to get the photos. Mismanagement and poor communication with customers.

Great experience here and I gotta say the store is looking really good. Tons of stock on hand and everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. The manager David went the extra mile and really took the time to help with a preorder I had tons of questions about.
About a year ago I found myself in the middle of a product photography project and Paul at the rental counter gave me tons of time and advice helping get set up with exactly what I needed to get the job done. Everyone here, but especially Paul in this case, has made the case to choose this store over some big box online retail monster. Not only do they have the stock you are looking for but the staff is approachable, knowledgeable, and friendly. I’ll be back for sure.

First time developing photos at nelsons , Sayra at the development center was so helpfull and knowledgeable! Never have i felt so comfortable dropping my film off somewhere i trust her experience.She will be my go to for all my family pictures, and projects !

I'm sad to do this but I have to share my experience. I have been coming here for 10+ plus years since I started my photographer/videographer hobby. Spent thousands of dollars every year getting new equipment every couple months. I don't know what happened with management or ownership but here's my story. The manager, David was helping two customers before he could get to me and one of the employees notified him that I was in need of assistance specifically from him. After dealing with two customer he had, David walked around a bit talking to employees then proceed to hop on a call and walk to the back room. I felt kind of ignored at this point. I was already waiting about 30-40 mins prior to this. One of the employee saw this and went into the back to grab him for me. God bless that employee. She deserves a raise ! He finally got to me shortly and He told me he couldn't return the items back despite being brand new still and also the gift certificate I got from them isn't valid anymore. 600+ plus dollars not being valid anymore ? I plead my case with him and he insisted that there was nothing he could do for me despite me being a loyal customer to Nelson's. So basically I sold all my equipment and now I get nothing really out of it ? He told me at least I got something out of it because the previous owner scammed a whole bunch of people. That’s just not right.The customer service with David was horrible. smiled in my face and told me he couldn't help me because of someone that was affiliated with the company had messed up. That is not my problem that the company had its issues and now it’s pouring into your loyal customers This is your reputation that you're representing and to tell a customer your money is basically no good ? When you bought out or bought into Nelson’s, you acquire everything that comes with it. It doesn’t matter what it is. You are still Nelson’s photo that everyone dearly loves. The Nelson that been there for years and years and continue to be there for the next generation. ! You took that name because of the history and loyal customers to the people that work there. I'm sorry and sad to say they lost a loyal customer. Paul is cool though. He's been taking care of me since I started going there. hope they treat him right ! thank you for listening to my rant ! hope this helps anyone reading this .

I only come here for my prints both digital and film. The quality is always great and the turnaround is fast. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking in the lot. Easy to find. What more could you want?!
