I am not a hard core weightlifter or fitness fanatic, I was just looking for a fun way to stay active and in shape. CrossFit Sun provides that and so much more - varying and challenging workouts, modifications for those who need it, GREAT coaches and people, a jovial and encouraging atmosphere, and zero pressure to do more than what you're comfortable with. And before you know it, you are actually getting stronger and fitter. There is such a spectrum of different fitness levels, and while I'm nowhere near the top, I've never felt anything other than positive encouragement and cheer from everyone around me. And, I've received better advice for my injuries (knee, shoulder) than any physical therapist has ever given. And made a bunch of friends. Ten thumbs up!

My daughter has been coming to this gym for the last year and a half to strengthen and complement her high school sport, which is girls wrestling. The owners of the gym set up a custom personalized strength/stamina regimen that is specific to her sport. The results have been Overwhelmingly great! Also, the atmosphere is both engaging and fun, which keeps her motivated to always show up.

Such a great CrossFit gym. Owner/Head Coach Mark is incredibly knowledgeable and engaged in the fitness and well-being of his clients. Each coach provides individual attention and adjustments to planned WODs to help address individual needs/injuries, etc. Workouts are structured/planned over the course of the week and with the larger picture of several months. The clientele span the spectrum of overall fitness so newbies should be comfortable joining or starting CrossFit for the first time! There is also a nice sense of community among the members with good natured banter and encouragement in all classes.

My teenage daughter trained with Leslie at CrossFit Sun for almost two years and Leslie completely changed my daughter's outlook about "working out." My daughter always looked forward to going to workouts with Leslie and never once said she was "too tired." Leslie has children herself and has the perfect demeanor to work with teens or really anyone. She is fun, kind, very sweet and very knowledgable about proper fitness. Leslie taught my daughter proper form in working out and in running...something I wish my daughter had learned years before she hit her teenage years. My daughter now teaches me proper form when we work out together. As she gets ready to leave for college, I feel she will seek out a gym on campus and will feel very confident about working out in a new environment based on all she learned from Leslie. You cannot go wrong hiring Leslie as a personal trainer and I HIGHLY recommend her!

My wife and I were members at this box for a year. This is a great gym for a few reasons: The coaches are 100% themselves all the time. Most of the members have been going there for more than a decade so the community is solid and super welcoming, and there aren't any cliques or "you can't sit with us" types which I really liked. Mark really strives to be a master of his craft, you can tell he puts in the time to learn new things outside of the gym. Also, I learned a few things that I have never heard of at my old box/dropping into other CrossFit gyms. It's a great CrossFit gym. I definitely recommend dropping in and learning a thing or two.

Out of the 4 crossfit gyms I've been a member at and 20+ gyms I've dropped into throughout the years, CrossFit Sun has the best: 1) Community. Pretty much every crossfit gym I've belonged to or dropped in at says they have great community. While that's not been my experience at every gym, a great community certainly has been my experience at CrossFit Sun. I felt welcome from the very first day, and like part of the 7am crew within the first month. 2) Focus on proper movement / technique. Coaches at CrossFit Sun teach people how to activate the muscles they'll need for the workouts, and spend sufficient time warming up, before starting the clock. They prioritize functional fitness and longevity over going all out on a lift or WOD just for the sake of it.

Are you looking for challenging workouts, encouraging coaches, positive results and a wonderful community? Then Crossfit Sun is for you!!! It has been a place that has not only challenged me mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically, but it has helped me to gain confidence in ways I never knew existed within myself. Crossfit Sun helped me to become the healthiest that I have ever been in my life - and the happiest!!I started Crossfit Sun in 2016, and I have never regretted it. It's been the best decision that I have ever made. I visited other gyms and crossfits all over San Diego and nothing came close to this one. This place is unique beyond words. The owners have crafted this gym to be unlike any other - and you can defiantly see all the hard work they put into it everyday!!The coaches are fantastic. They listen, they teach and they encourage you every step of the way!! And most importantly they will never let you injure yourself. They will teach you the right techniques and help guide you. The teaching at Crossfit Sun has helped me not only in my workouts but also in my everyday life. They will help you modify your workout or help challenge your workouts. Whatever your need is - they are there to help and support you! Whether you are 16 years old or 70 years old, Over weight or under weight - they will meet you where you are!Fix Fit classes are amazing!! Its a place to learn Functional fitness and then apply it to your daily workouts. Learning Coach Marks techniques has been life changing. Its helped me to build confidence and knowledge in my lifts at the gym and in my work place. His teaching techniques have helped me prevent injuries in and outside the gym.And let's not forget the Kids PE classes. My nieces and nephews have loved these classes. My nephew lost 20lb within a few months and felt more confident than ever. The workouts helped him prepare for football and helped him get out of the Pandemic blues. Coach Leslie is amazing and the kids LOVE her. She knows how to make them smile and sweat - all while having fun!!Overall, Don't be intimidated to try - you may find that it quickly becomes the best part of your day!! Crossfit Sun has been one of my top 5 reasons why I love San Diego. I encourage you to try them out and see if that is the same for you!!Crossfit Sun will help you to be the best version of yourself. And that is ALWAYS worth a try!

The only place that has gotten me to exercise consistently for over 8+ years. Coaches take time to understand your goals and work with you to achieve them. The community keeps you coming back. Can not recommend highly enough.

I recently transplanted to the area from the East Coast and it wasn't easy to find a gym in the time of COVID. Luckily I eventually found the group and Crossfit Sun and I couldn't be happier.A veteran of both a games affiliated gym and a much more easy-going neighborhood box, I can say that the crew at Crossfit Sun still succeed in bringing something new and good-for-you. The training philosophies and experience amongst the coaches is vast and well-considered. The goal is to make you fitter and better. Taking the time to refine movements new and old to create a better, lattier you is their motto - or it is in my head. The old guard are welcoming and inclusive, and the spaces they have available are great for social distancing. A very easy-going, relaxed, inclusive environment.Highly recommended!

This facility does not feel like your typical gym. Everyone here is like family. Mark is amazing, he helps you with pain. I was going to a chiropractor weekly. After only 2 sessions with Mark, I haven't felt the need to go anymore. I would give 10 stars if available.

I'm not from the area but I'm a regular at the CrossFit in Seattle. CrossFit Sun was a fun and challenging experience. A lot of my family comes here, and I thought it would be nice to join them and give it a try. Everyone there is encouraging and super friendly. If I lived here I would totally come here 10/10

Worst. Experience. Ever. I'd been wanting to try CrossFit for years. But I was wildly intimidated. Both by the workouts and the diehard communities. After moving down the street from this facility -- and seeing all of the reviews about how "welcoming" this box is -- I worked up the courage to give it a go. Unfortunately, my worst nightmares came true over the course of 60 minutes. The warmup got going and it was as if I was expected to know exactly what to do. Instead of being introduced to the regulars or paired with trusted members, I was on my own observing others and copying their movements. I'll be fine, I thought. It's just the warmup. When the actual workout began, we were told to get in groups of 3. OK, great. The instructor will intro me to a few people he trusts to help me along the way. Or, someone will go out of their way to grab me ... Nope. I'm on my own, feeling unwelcome already. And it only went from bad to worse. Mid-workout, the handstand pushups came. And the minimal coaching I was receiving led me to flipping up against the wall and falling on my face in front of everyone. Imagine that. Well, at least they noticed me now. Talk about embarrassing. At this point, the instructor finally realized when I said I was new to CrossFit at the beginning of class, I was NEW to CrossFit (and he did acknowledge later he should have been more helpful. better late than never, I guess). But the cold welcome and dangerous fall was not all... While the instructor now seemed fairly genuine and likely realized his wrongdoing, I was introduced to the "lead trainer" who had just walked in as I was finishing up a workout far too difficult for a newbie. I figured he'd welcome me and ask me back. Instead, he was a smug j*** (and that's putting it lightly). The guy had me strap on some weights and bear crawl to my death... in front of everyone. After all, they were done with their workout and the drenched-in-sweat new guy clearly needed more. So, there was an audience as they put me through the wringer for no apparent reason. It was as if I was being hazed for coming in and giving the place a try. With my blood boiling and feeling more self-conscious and uncomfortable than any 31-year-old man should ever feel, I crawled and crawled until the "lead trainer" finally called it a day. The worst part? I could tell by his shit-eating grin and patronizing comments he was proud of the "show" he just put on. Embarrassed, exhausted, and shocked, I let my heart rate sink back down to reasonable levels, got on my feet, and left. Never to go back again. What a way to win over a prospect. I truly hope I had an outlier experience and all of the 5 star reviews are legit. But I have no idea what I did to deserve such awful treatment and I certainly hope any other newbie considering this gym has a much better experience than I did. CrossFit Sun was the nail in the coffin on CrossFit for me.
