The Commissary at Naval Base San Diego is a grocery store run by the military, with profits going back to customers, employees, and the base. It is considered one of the best commissaries in the military system, with lots of food items and produce, and constant supervision on keeping vegetables and fruit fresh. Customers find deals and cheaper items, with friendly cashiers and baggers. However, some note overpriced produce that can be in poor condition, inaccurate pricing, and issues with specific items like packaged salmon. The restrooms are also noted as unsatisfactory. While some recommend shopping around locally, others describe it as a wonderful experience and a good place to shop.
Viewer, active duty or retired? This is A good place to go grocery shopping. Probably one of the best perks is when you go to a store the profits go to a company's bottom line. The commissary is run by the military so the profits go back to the customers, the employees and the military base.
October 2025
Overpriced produce thats usually in poor condition, like moldy or rotten on day #1. Pricing is all over and highly inaccurate - never matches at checkout and makes the process so much longer. Better than nothing but local markets and grocery chains have higher quality for only slightly higher pricing. Shop around
August 2025
The place has lots of food items & produce. I like the 2 for $5 sale for mini-watermelons this 2nd week of Aug 2025.
