Highly recommend. We drove about an hour and half to visit Greg for my husbands tattoo. Great group of guys that work at the shop, super friendly and funny As hell. The vibe is super chill and relaxing. I highly recommend this shop.

First tattoo at 70! Gave artist a print of the wave file of my voice saying the word "Life." He created a wonderful unique piece of art that I see every time I look at my forearm.

Got a Tattoo on April 19, 2023 with Brent. Needless to say, a few days prior, I called and Black Anvil picked up right away, it was Brent Hefner and he referred me his personal number to further help me with what I wanted. I showed him my original design which was a copy of a temporary tattoo I saw; he laughed and said he can make it better and that “We don’t Copy” which I found enticing.I told him the details I wanted in the tattoo, he put it all together like a absolute BOSS, and made an outline better than I could have ever imagined and got it tattooed on me in the same day. Beyond happy with Black Anvil Tattoo shop, it’s the best around in San Diego and they have some seriously talented artists. Got my tattoo done 3 days after contacting him and it looks absolutely amazing, I couldn’t be happier-Kai Torres

Was on vacation in San Diego with my girlfriend and we decided get a tattoo on our last day there. We found this place close to us, and I can say we made a great choice the shop was very welcoming and the work is amazing! We were both tatted by Mike. Thanks again for the beautiful new ink! Will definitely use this place next time we are in the area.

Greg is excellent & professional. I got 3 tattoos done in one day for a fair & responsible price. He is the tattoo artist to beat in the SD area in my opinion!

I’ve come here for years. The 3 artists, Brent, RJ, and Greg are all awesome. You’ll get great work and great conversation and music. There never a seems to be a good time for parking, but that’s not their fault.

Met Brent Hefner through a good friend, who got a tattoo in memorial of her late father. I liked the detail and design, so it motivated me to get an overdue coverup on my shoulder, and tune up on my back tattoo from 15+ years ago. I showed Brent a few images of what I wanted for the coverup, then let him run with it. During our sessions, I enjoyed our conversations, his dedication to his craft and his stories, the finish product is better than expected and I get compliments all time. The vibe in the shop is cool. RJ is a character and has great work as well, Greg does cool s*** too. They argue with Alexa, their DJ, from time to time, but the tunes are always good. Highly recommend this shop, they have deep local roots and solid portfolio. Look no further. Thanks again Brent!
