Can’t recommend Birds enough. The owner is incredibly friendly to beginners, seems to love to share knowledge of surfing. Haven’t had the same experience at other shops. Great vibes, demo boards, friendly golden retriever hanging around, what more can you ask for?

“Frequent flyer” at Bird’s. This place is truly a local treasure. I try and direct all of my surf needs to local shops like Bird’s. Supporting these spots goes a long way. Also, Bird’s has something for everyone. The crew is super friendly and knowledgeable as well. They seem to make it a point to stock absolutely rad boards made by local shapers. They also have nice stuff for beginners. My go-to spot in San Diego for sure. Keep it up over there!

Best Surf Shop ever. This shoo is a one of a kind museum of surfboards, literally. As soon as you walk in, you are overwhelmed by the amount of boards hanging from the ceiling and walls.
Bird has been there and done that, been in the Surf industry for 60 years, and knows the answer to any surf question you could possibly ask him.
Make sure you stop by the Shed on Morena Blvd. Do you wont be disappointed.

This is a great place to see all kinds of boards. You gotta have $$$ to purchase one though. Majority of the boards looked like they were meant to be purchased as wall art. Maybe it's just me but I've never spent $1,000+ on a surfboard I'm taking out in the water. I highly recommend checking out all the boards though. Staff was nice to us while we were in there.

My wife had a conference in San Diego, so I tagged along renting a Jeep and looking for a surfboard to rent. I surf the East Coast and was excited to test out what the West Coast had going on. We went to Black’s Beach to check out the view and the waves. I asked a local surfer in the parking lot, if he were me what surf shop would he go to. He told me to go to Bird’s. I quickly jumped in the car and drove to Birds’s Surf Shed before they closed. When I got there Bird and his staff made my whole week. Bird’s hooked me up with a board for the rest of my trip himself and recommended some spots I might want to check out. I find out later that Bird is the one who does the local Surfline report, who better to get recommendations from. You can go to Birds Surf Shed or the OB Shed in Ocean Beach. The vibe is supper friendly and inviting. Bird and his crew made my trip. I look forward to making it back every year. They are the best!

Wow, what a great surf shop. The.staff are super knowledgeable and friendly. Lots of boards to choose from and lots of unique surf accessories, including things like Patagonia shorts, surfboard stands, lots of wetsuits and rash guards, etc. This shop is in a quonset hut. The ceiling is lined with old and classic boards. This place definitely has a ton if respect for the history of the sport.

If you are looking for a board in San Diego, please go to this store first! Inside the warehouse, there are many surfboards displayed from the walls to the ceiling, and there is a wide variety, so you can find the surfboard you are looking for.
Local shops seem to be places where locals come and go.
I also took care of surfboards.
I've been there a few times and found the staff to be very friendly and had a great atmosphere.
When I bought the board, it came with a leash cord and wax as a gift. I also received an original T-shirt. It was a very nice purchase. I went surfing right after I bought it.
thank you very much. I will go again.

By far the coolest surf store in town and probably the USA.
