NICE PLACE TO STAY FOR A BEACH GETAWAY ====================================== I found an Airbnb in South Mission Beach with a big garage, so I booked it for a few days for my anniversary. We had kind of scoped out the area a few months in advance when my son and his Army co-workers were staying in a hostel. I thought it would be a great place to take our e-bikes because I noticed the paths around Mission Bay. We were really happy we had a nice place with a big garage because finding street parking would be a royal pain. We avoided riding our bikes on Mission Boulevard like the plague because you would definitely be taking your life in your own hands. One day we rode to La Jolla via Strandway by the beach. I am pretty sure it was the weekend and it was a total zoo. I finally told my husband we needed to go to La Jolla via a street, that wasn't Mission Boulevard. There is also a path around Mission Bay you can take, but you might be dodging pedestrians too. If you want to ride your bike around the area I highly recommend going on a weekday when schools are back in session.

This is my favorite beach in San Diego! We have been to Coronado, Ocean, and Pacific Beaches but this one is the best. The boardwalk has shops and restaurants as well as Belmont Park with clean bathrooms. You can walk right off the boardwalk onto the beach and don't have to walk forever like at Coronado or manage a lot of stairs like at Pacific. Everything is close and convenient and the beach is clean. Lifeguards on duty, carts selling ice cream, everything you need to have a great time!

A wide stretch of sand that not only anchors the southern end of Mission Beach, as its name implies, but also overlooks the harbor channel. You can scramble onto a jetty that sticks out from the beach and forms the northern edge of this channel to observe passing sailboats, fish, or, as was the case when I stopped by, pose for professional photo shoots. It's so wide that there's plenty of room for folks to spread out, plus there's a large parking lot right here too. If the parking is insufficient, there's more parking at Mission Point Park, a short walk to the east.

Beautiful place to walk along the beach and usually has a good breeze. It's summertime so I noticed it's getting a tad busy during the daytime.

Dog hours are just unrealistic and unfair! With the huge beachfront area in Mission Beach, they expect dog owners (out on a leashed walk) to walk before 9am and after 4/5pm or go to Fiesta Island which has NO tree coverage which is a problem when the sun is out. Meanwhile there are speeding bikes/scooters/rollerbladers and people that don't clean up after themselves all the time. Wish they could ease up on the restrictions or at least have an area for dogs during daytime hours.

I needed to get out of my apartment and do / see something creative, so with a little quick search, I was able to find South Mission Beach. More specifically, Graffiti Shack on Hidden San Diego ( According to the Hidden San Diego article, Graffiti Shack once housed an electric box for a light at the end of the jetty that served to warn boats of the jetty's location. It also helped guide the boats in as this area can get quite foggy at night. Before the structure was put in, there were at least a handful of accidents and capsized boats.I visited South Mission Beach in August 2020 (5 months after Pandemic started). The place is beautiful and definitely picture friendly!! San Diego, sun, beach, water, nice breeze.... that is definitely all smiles (even in a pandemic)!!I went on a Sunday afternoon and probably spent an hour or two there. There were quite a few people out; I was able to walk comfortably with my facemask on. The rocks were a little bit tough to get through (context - I'm not a hiker at all). My friend and I only made it about halfway through the rocks before we decided to sit on the rocks and enjoy the sun instead (I have a beautiful farmer's tan to show for it too). Hahahaha!! Pictures:

This place is absolutely amazing... Other views are so breathtaking... I come here with my family and we absolutely love just sitting at the beach and taking everything in! They have so much to do all around so there's never a dull moment! Sometimes it's hard to get parking that's the one thing that I don't like about it but it is an amazing popular place so you can expect for parking to be a d@amn bioootch Lol

I had a great time at this beach! They have a ton of great restaurants and shops nearby. They have scooters everywhere and I highly suggest riding the scooter on the boardwalk and all the way down to the pier. This beach is perfect for new riders. They have a mini arcade, laser tag, amusement park themed rides, and so much more. I highly recommend going to this beach, if you are visiting San Diego.

I love to head down to South Mission Beach, just a few blocks past Belmont Park. I prefer to avoid the weekends during the summer, but it's nowhere near as crowded as LA beaches so a weekend trip isn't entirely out of the question. Just south of Belmont Shore is a bit more private and there is free (but sometimes limited) parking in a lot by the jetty. During the week you can usually find a few spots on the street as well. There is a walking/biking path along the beachfront which is a top notch people watching location. Lots of tourists on scooters so make it a point not to get run over.

I mainly hang out at the southern part of the beach. This is where the jetty along mission bay and the the beach is located. This is a cool spot to fish. Just throw your pole out and have a seat. Its relaxing to sit back and wait to see if a fish bites. Also if the fish don't bite I just soak up the sun and get a tan. Along this stretch is the boardwalk that goes from Mission beach all the way to Pacific Beach. I usually walk here to get a little exercise. You also have the option to ride a bike. They have some cool restaurants and gift shops along the boardwalk. The beach is also nice along this stretch. Summer times this area gets crowded. Parking gets very limited here.

I love South Mission Beach. Despite the horrible amount of parking, especially on the weekend, this beach is one of San Diego's beaches that make this city great. This beach has a full basketball court next to the parking lot & a number of volleyball nets available right on the sand. My friends and I have had many BBQs and beach days here and we love it. There's a strip of rocks along the water you can walk on and even fish on. This place is beautiful and about a mile away from belmont park (a mini amusement park on the beach.)
