Stayed here to attend a Sunday wedding in Fairfax. We arrived early to see if we could get an early check-in (last minute) to escape the heat. We were met by the owner (I believe) and he was kind enough to bump up our room cleaning to get in earlier.
But the room wasn't that cool despite the A/C and a fan. Still grateful to have a place to rest.
The rooms are definitely dated and simple (a mix of antique and modern). We had the King DLX which actually had an unexpected 2nd bedroom which we didn't need.
Bathroom was tiny but who's spending much time in there? The room was on the street side so a little noisy in the AM with bigger trucks passing by. But was nice having all the natural light from the windows.
Convenient for walking and dining about town. Would be a good landing point to explore the coast and bike trails. Such a nice break from Oakland and East Bay where you have to be so careful with your things/car. And people smile and stop at the cross walk for you. What a different way of living.
Was a decent place to stay for a night but not for much longer in that kind of heat. We barely slept because it was so warm. However, that kind of heat is not the norm.
Rooms: Rooms were ok, dated. Plenty of space. Small bathroom.
Nearby activities: Trails, Coast, Fairfax
Safety: Felt very safe to walk about and park the car. Not like the East Bay!
Walkability: You're right in San Anselmo business district with restaurants and shops.

Lack of cleanliness and service, even for a two star hotel.Rented a room for two nights over Christmas for my brother and his wife, since our house was full for the holidays. After the first night he came to the house and said the couldn't stay there another night since the musty mold smell was too strong. Fortunately we could fit them into the house, but would have been better if the hotel had worked out.No one was at the hotel for them to speak with in person, and I tried texting the hotel with no response on the day they checked out. Christmas Eve.Stopped by the hotel after Christmas and no one was there. Called the number and the manager was very pleasant but not available that day to show the room, but insisted I return the next day to inspect the room as he couldn't imagine the room smelling.I did so the next day, and the room seemed fine BUT had a strong smell of chemical cleaners. He stated that was from the daily cleaning. The window was also very clean, although my brother stated it was very dirty when they were there.Since my brother hardly ever complains, and the room had clearly been deep cleaned just before I saw it - after a day's delay from my walk in attempt to inspect it, I have to believe it was smelly enough not to be livable. No offer from the manager to refund or discount the night not used. Just insistance all was ok with the room, and by extension there must be an issue with my brother and his wife. They would not have moved out if there wasn't an issue.Lastly, don't count on a decent breakfast if you stay there. Just drip coffee and Danish. All in all, a cute old building that's conveniently located if you want to stay in the midst of San Anselmo. Not in great shape, and the two star quality rating it receives from rating sites is a fair assessment relative to 3 and 4 star establishments, so not rating it down for that. It's fine for a two star place. My rating is based on the lack of cleanliness, a poor "breakfast," and lack of service.

Check the flags that they fly... not a place I will ever recommend. It is sad commentary that they feel the need to display their politics and racial views by flying flags instead of welcoming everyone. It is a clear message of who is NOT wanted at this establishment!

We loved this place. It is located in downtown area with plenty of shopping and places to eat nearby. The bed was comfy. The shower flow was great. Yummy cookies in the lobby and tasty breakfast in the breakfast area. Cute out back seating area. The staff and management is very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back.

BEWARE of the $50 cancellation fee. I cancelled 90 days prior to my arrival and was declined my request for reimbursement.

Booked reservation through Expedia and cancelled within Expedia time, as confirmed by them. When the property kept $50, I was told by Expedia to contact the property. I spoke to the "boss" and was told that the reservation fee of $50 is charged if the cancellation is made more than three days after the initial booking---not indicated on Expedia. I was told not to book on Expedia and threatened with a lawsuit if I gave a bad review.

I have been staying at The Inn for over 20 years. My stay this past weekend was dismal! I arrived before 6 PM and no one was at the front desk to greet me. I called the number posted at the front desk 3 times but no one picked up. There was dust on the stainless steel bottom of the bedside lamp so thick you could write in it! Saturday morning when I went down to get breakfast there was no one there and there was no water in the hot water container so I went next-door to a restaurant for breakfast. The same story Sunday. When I went to check out, there was no one there and despite the fact that I called the number listed no one came to check me out. I ended up tossing my keys on the desk and left a message asking someone to confirm that they had received my keys and then I was officially checked out. No one ever called me back. I called when I got home to verify that they had gotten my keys. Contrary to what you expect at an Inn or a bed and breakfast which is hospitality and caring (and breakfast!), it felt like a ghost town and there was no cordiality at all.

Poor customer service. Even though they advertise Internet and cable there was none for the entire four-day stay. Not maintained well. Mold growing on back wall niche of dining room. Back door to the hallway of the inn was left open all day and night long propped open by employees without it being locked. Locks to the rooms don’t work well or are not secure. The owner was indifferent when I brought these issues up. Will not return.

San Anselmo is a delightful Inn in the middle of downtown San Anselmo. It is quiet, lovely and Gino the owner is extremely hospitable. Perfect location and lots of great shopping and restaurants. Special occasion coming up? Come and stay here.
