Just want to remind people that if you adopt from this shelter - you will be charged for licensing fees EVERY YEAR while your dog is in Salinas. This was not explained to me and I thought it was a one time fee. No - you will get billed every year until you move out of Salinas!
They say it’s to support reunions if your dog gets lost - but I already have a microchip. Also - they say it’s to support the shelter but I recently learned how much they euthanize the animals. Not too happy that my fees will be going to euthanize kittens :(.
Finally there should be waivers for the fees - it should be considered a donation. Cat owners don’t have to pay the fees - just dog adoptions!

I have no clue as to how their adoption process is but their receptionist are terrible with me having been hung up on multiple times, they say they will take note and send this over to their field service staff but there is no response or action taken for months and still ongoing, they take a long time to act which I can understand since it could be short staffed but they lack effective priorities since I have called in for a dog that was left abandoned in the morning and was not picked up until two days later but by that time it was already dead and in the process of decay. If you need help with a neighbor that keeps their dogs outside nearly the whole day barking and crying than don’t bother with animal control since they won’t act to help you with or without video proof of the dog barking as they don’t bother to show up anymore after they go one time for just 10 minutes. They lack professionalism, Efficiency, Responsibility, and overall their performance is lacking in just following through with what they say.

Today me and my sister decided to call the pet services on our little kitty that we took care of. It turns out that they had to euthanize because it did not have a mother they said mine sister is currently crying and am just thinking it's Adoption center for animals are they really that lazy to take care of the animals that people have brought in to go to better homes and not be euthanized if u want to bring your pets here or pets u found I think u guys should go the other way I don't think u guys should bring your guys pets here if u guys want them to go to a better home thank and good bye cheese burger u did not deserve be euthanized

The lady at the front desk was very friendly, patient, helpful, and informative. I learned that not all stray animals could be brought here. Definitely call first before thinking you can drop off a cat or dog.

Many thanks to the Hitchcock Road Animal Services staff who took care of my border collie when he came in with over 20 other dogs, neglected and needing to gain weight. <3

A wonderful experience adopting our new family member, Lula the Cat. Lula is doing great, came well prepared from the shelter with a goodie bag, her blanket to feel comfortable, and ready for a new happy life! Microchipped and spayed, and ready to romp around the house.

Omg I adopted a kitten here and she was not expected to live past a few years. We were blessed to have her in our lives over 16 years in human life years. She was a blessing to our whole family and neighborhood, everyone loved her all ages. I thank God this Shelter gave us the God given best.❣️

LOVE LOVE LOVE everything they do for our community & it's four legged furry residents. They have a donation area for pet owners in need & give attention & love to the little guys waiting on a forever home. The really are under rated staff included. After all it's the team out at Hitchcock Rd that make it continually great

A nice clean shelter with friendly and helpful staff. The hours are limited though (Tues-Sat, 1pm-5pm when we visited) and you have to check in with your cell phone when you arrive. So if you try and go on a Saturday, it can be a 30-60 wait or even longer if it's really busy. So make sure to take this into account if deciding to visit this place. Definitely worth visiting though if you are looking to adopt an animal.

my favorite shelter! the staff/volunteers are all so kind and helpful. i’ve come here a few times , even if i didn’t end up adopting, and it was so nice to spend time with the kitties and meet the dogs. you can tell that the shelter cares for each animal and i definitely will volunteer here when i can!
