We came in looking for some slab for a desk, fell in love with a 3 - 4" thick piece of walnut that had warped a bit but they could salvage some for our 1.25" desk plan. Half down as a deposit, Made some drawings including how to process the drop, sent it off, and they started on it.Turns out the piece was still too wet in their opinion (therefore would continue to warp) and they began looking for another piece.We ran out of time for the project and they were understanding and happy to refund the project. Incredibly happy they could tell it was still too wet because I was already fretting if this desk would warp on me.I will 100% be coming back for wood when I can take on this project again!

The owner, Evan, is very friendly and knowledgeable regarding his business. He is very patient with educating customers to ensure the customers pick the right project type and piece from among a large selection of quality woods. And, his brother plays a great piano!!! Kevin, one of the employees, is also very helpful and patient. GREAT customer service!!!!

This place is amazing. It has any kind of slab you may want. From straight to crazy. The help is beyond any place I've been. Explained all my stupid questions to the fullest. I live in Reno, and couldn't find what I was looking for. Had to go to Sacramento for a day so I thought I'd check for a slab here. I was so impressed, my mouth kept opening in amazement.

We met Evan and his crew on October 29th with a mission of finding a kitchen table right in time for Thanksgiving. Evan and Kevin were exceptionally patient with us as we tossed back and forth between what we wanted and what we thought would fit in our dining room. We ended up with a 6 foot black walnut table with a live edge. The table was delivered when promised, the night before Thanksgiving. We're beyond happy with our table and continue to receive endless compliments from family and friends. Thank you to Truwood Builders delivering our table right on time. It's everything we could've ever asked for.

Evan and his crew did a fabulous job on our 20 foot Redwood bar for our new wine tasting room in Placerville. It has a live edge and it is the main focal point of our space. Every time we look at it we see it from a new perspective. Not only is it better than expected but it was completed and delivered when promised. Thank you Truewood Builders for a job well done!

I went in yesterday with the intention of buying a smaller slab to make a desk top out of. Evan was very helpful and showed us around. After a little browsing and thought I decided on one and purchased it. I appreciated his time and knowledge. He answered all my questions and now I can’t wait to make my new desk top out of this beautiful slab!

I purchased a 3 inch thick 10 foot unfinished redwood slab from them today and they have the largest inventory of slabs I have ever seen and the largest variety of woods availed in one place! They also do custom work and furniture and their employees are the friendliest people and provided the best customer service I have received in a long time! They even took the time to show my husband and myself around the entire facility and they showed us how they create a one of a kind custom piece! Whatever you're looking for one to create, they can do it! Their quality of work far surpasses any other I've ever seen so, If you have an idea or looking for a unique piece of wood and don't miss out and head there first! The owner Evan made me a great deal and I really appreciated it! They cut all of their own wood and kiln dry it on site as well! There are a lot of people selling wood slabs that do not dry the wood properly which is going to be a disaster in the end for you so, be sure and visit them first! The first picture is the slab I purchased which is going to be my new dining room table and the rest of the pics show only a small portion of what they have available!

Avoid this place at all costs- Charges enormous amounts for awful unfinished pieces that take five times longer than quoted. Scammed out of over $1000 for an unfinished piece of wood. The owner Evan is rude and condescending. More details below. Terrible experience. Picked up a slab of Redwood from them on February 20th. It was going to be a desk and the slab was already planed and sanded. After discussing some logistics with Evan's associate (Kenny, I think?) I was told the work to finish it would only be about 2 days of work and that they could probably get to it in 2 weeks. He told me it would be $1000 to finish it. I agreed, excited that I could get it all done in 2 weeks and have the work done by someone else since I didn't have any of the equipment and didn't have the experience. I paid for the slab and half the cost as a deposit upfront. After 2 weeks, I never heard from them. I assumed they were busy and gave them another week. After week 3 I called and they didn't return my call. After week 4 I got ahold of Kenny and was told they would get to it soon but couldn't give me a good timeline. Week 5 comes along and at this point I'm calling every other day to ask about my desk but not getting ahold of anyone. On the 6th week I talk to Evan and he tells me he will get it done soon. He was abrupt and rude and acted as if me calling him was inconveniencing him. I finally got the desk after 7 weeks. 7 weeks. My boyfriend picked it up and I left for a trip back home but before leaving I examined the piece and the work done was terrible. Here are a few things wrong with it: ---The piece wasn't sealed properly. I tried pouring a little water on the edge and it absorbed and stained immediately. ---The stain was applied unevenly or was moved upright before drying leaving streaking and some parts completely bare. ---The stain didn't penetrate the wood and I was told it was because the piece wasn't sanded far enough. It looked like a total rush job. ---The bottom of the piece wasn't finished or sealed at all causing the cracks to lengthen which could have resulted in the whole piece cracking apart. I waited 7 weeks for this piece and I wanted to see if I could fix it myself (not knowing how extensive the issues were at first). I asked a group on Facebook for help and Evan replied saying he would fix the piece. My boyfriend and I ended up calling him 11 times. A month passes and no word. Finally I gave up and took it to another woodworker to fix. He told me that the job was atrocious and that he would help fix it for me for free because he felt bad about how much it cost. I tried one last time to call Evan to make it right, left him a message a little defeated and telling him that I was getting someone else to fix it. He calls me back a few minutes later and essentially tells me that since I'm having someone else fix it that its out of his hands, acting like I didn't call him 11 times all of April. He calls me a liar and was incredibly rude. All in all a terrible experience that makes me lose faith in the woodworking community if not for the one woodworker that is fixing the piece for me. Stay away from this place. They care little about the customer's time and more about their money, very little pride in his work.
