These guys are great! We are doing some work on our garage with fixing and sheet rocking it. Every person that we spoke with was so helpful with advice, and they even helped us load everything into our truck. Thank you for such great customer service. This is our new go to spot for supplies for home projects!

I've driven past this place since I was a wee lad and finally stopped by the other day. I needed half a sheet of plywood and needed that cut in half to fit in my car. They were able to accommodate my request. The staff were very friendly and the store has just about everything I could need. I can hopefully avoid home depot and start going here for everything.

Ok mom and pops store...GREAT for items you know. Screws, nuts and bolts selection better than home depot....not great prices for larger items

If you are looking for a large selection of loose bolts or if this place is closer than Home Depot and you don’t mind spending a few extra bucks per item, then you can come here.Otherwise, quality is worse than even Home Depot while being several bucks more per item. This goes for lumber, tools, and other material (even items that are $5-7 at Home Depot are $10 here - from 2x4s to cement to drill bits).I really wanted to support an old local hardware store, but it’s just not worth it to spend more for worse quality and constant out of stock items that mean I have to go to Home Depot anyways.Staff are competent but usually extremely grumpy.

Finally a company that puts customer service first! After a horrendous experience at the ORANGE big box store that rhymes with "Nome Repo", I drove home to find out who else in the Sacramento area supplies wood for out outdoor home projects and quickly checked reliable Yelp to put me in a better mood! Yelp directed me to New Home Building Supply (NHBS) a Sacramento mainstay that is 74 years old. I had never heard of this little gem but thanks to all the FIVE STAR reviews I knew if anyone could help me it would be them. The store is well lit and laid out allowing you to quickly find the items you are looking for. Three times I had employees ask me if I needed help locating an item and the one time I did need help Orlando was there to guide me to what I needed for my project! Kudos Orlando, you are the man! The prices are comparable to the orange, nome repo store . I think my entire project may have been $10 more than at The other place BUT, what is your time worth? At the other store I spent 40 minutes digging through a pile of exterior trim boards to locate ones that weren't damaged, had holes or other cut marks. At NHBS all of the lumber was first rate quality, I did not see a single piece of sub-par material. So the 40 minutes I saved is well worth an extra bit for grade a service and the best lumber you will find in the greater Sacramento area! I can't recommend this place enough and you will never find me at the Orange Nome again!

Called to see if they had a specific crown molding in stock. Was told they had it. Drove 45 min to pick it up only to find they didn't actually have it. Didn't even get an apology. Will prolly never shop here again. Will go to a big box store before coming back here.

purchased 7 ft high redwood fencing - wood so beautiful not one knot. i may cost more but the quality is outstanding. outside staff orlando and staff very helpful. will be back...

My husband has been a customer here for years, we get lumber for our business here. We came this morning to get some fence pickets that we needed for a job. We paid for them and was directed to the place we're they had them by an employee, we started to look for the good ones in the big pile of broken and damaged ones they had and were told by the same employee that weren't allowed to do that, My only mistake was to ask why? He said because you can't it's going to take you a long time, okay but I'm doing the job my self with my son and husband, what's the problem. He continues to tell me that's the policy. I asked him not to put the rest of the lumber I had already paid for because I was not going to take ugly damaged fence pickets and install them to my customers fence. He laughed and said okay! I go to the office and asked them to please get me a refund since I can't pick my good lumber I wanted my money back. I said I come here because I rather give my money to you than Home Depot. He said I understand that. Now the employee that was helping outside in the yard comes in and tells me that that he can call the owner if he wants and he going to tell me the same thing. Taking of his working gloves and slammed them on the desk! Am I supposed to be afraid?? He calls someone and no one picks up. He tells me again the policy says I can't pick my own fence pickets because that is the policy, I asked him to show me a written policy and he tells me there's none! I grew up here in this neighborhood, I worked in this neighborhood so of course I want to buy from local small and family owned businesses. He walks away mumbling something and I get my refund by the other employee that was there. I know my $441 are not going to damage your budget but at least teach your employees the right customer service.

This was the 1st time I'd ever been to this store, it looked a little small to me but then I realized that's because they have an detached lumber yard how long has it been since you've seen that. They had exactly what I was looking for. I wanted torque's bit wood screws. the gentleman behind the counter took me right over to where they are and then helped me find the ones that I needed.I will definitely be returning In the future!
