Extra Peace of Mind SITREPAt any given moment during the tax seasons, I've used both the local tax pro - but also the online Tax Pro Service - for the last 21 years (since 2003).THE SETUPMy taxes aren't too complicated (no Real Estate / no Dependents), but there are enough convolutions with various 1099-Rs, a spattering of crypto and some credits that it always behoves me to do the tax service.THEORY #1 - MY MAIN RULE OF THUMBI do a quick tax calculation, and if I'm pretty sure I'm going to OWE taxes any given year, I WAIT to do my taxes the first part of April. However, if I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a refund - especially a big refund - I do my taxes as early as possible. This is one of those "as early as possible"-years, and on balance, I'll get my refund back MUCH earlier if done earlier. This is where my theory - ergo my previous experience - comes into play. I practically was due almost the same refund amount in both 2015 and 2016, but waited til early April in 2015 to actually do my taxes (distracted by LOTS of Yelp events including a Big Yelp Spring Break in Ft. Lauderdale). Didn't get my refund back until almost June. In 2016, I got on the wagon and completed my taxes 1st week of February and got the refund back in just a couple of weeks. [Ended up owing the next few years because I tweaked my withholdings too low.]THEORY #2 - ADDED PROTECTION / ADDED SPEEDOf course, I'll get the nay-saying friends who'll raz me about "not doing it yourself" or that "yer wasting $120 on something you don't have to waste it on.But bottomline:* I appreciate all their tax pros, both local and online that I can get to look at some documents and/or run an idea by them;* I love all the online resources that calculate for me, designate which pot of money I should protect, etc.* I like the speed with which the tax process unfolds once I get all my docs together and turn it over to the pro.* I truly like the extra layer of protection between me and the IRS/FTB in terms of whom these tax agencies deal with.* If there's a problem, a glitch, a fix, etc. that needs to be done in the background, H&R Block doesn't bother me with it - the take care of it.With these last two points especially, there's a benefit in having a service like H&R Block working on your behalf. Our taxes are bundled as a group with other H&R Block patrons. Since the IRS trusts the work product of H&R Block, they receive the taxes as a group and will process this group much more quickly instead of the individual taxpayor who's return is standing out there on it's own, subject to more scrutiny, and more time.DONE & DONE= I got all my 1099s, 1098 and other docs by Jan 23 (the date that the IRS opens up to receive individual tax forms for Tax Year 2022) and whipped up my FED and CA STATE forms up on my H&R Block account by Jan 28;= Winifred, my Tax Pro for the last six (6) years, had my taxes ready for my approval by Jan 30 (like I said, they aren't overly complicated) - I approved via my online account that same day;= The IRS says that taxes received via digitally will take up to 21 days to turnaround a refund, taxes received via mail will take up to three (3) months to received a refund.= I ALREADY got my refund YESTERDAY - so that only took ONE (1) WEEK. = I do my taxes the same time as other family members and colleagues do theirs, but usually since they do theirs themselves, its taken one month, up to two months later, even without a problem. = And the later one waits to do their taxes, the longer it will take because of the increasing number of returns that both IRS and FTB are receiving both in late February and all through March.RATINGThe IRONIC thing is, that if I had written this review last year (sorry, MY bad), this would have been a 5-STAR review. However, there have been some significant hiccups, first & second among them, issues with tax application:(1) First problem is the tax application has a hard stop now, meaning, on

Their estimate was so off. The Fed gave me back over $800. I will never go back to this place again. I was in the middle of a divorce and hoped that going through a professional would be save me the time of doing my own taxes and possibly catch anything that I might have missed. Big mistake. We had to sit down with the tax person for 3 or 4 hours and in the end the person made the mistake of using the itemized deduction instead of the standard deduction which would have given me more money. That along with a $600 dollar bill I got for tax services. No thank you. Never again.

Mohammed Assayed is the best tax agent I've had. His friendliness and transparency had me wishing there were more times to meet than just once a year.

The only good customer service here is the gentleman at the front desk. Which is why they even have a star.It took 3 weeks for anyone to reach out to me after I called in multiple times to try to connect with my tax professional. The gentleman at the front desk even called me to check in if someone finally called me.They first confused my account with someone else. We’re impossible to get in contact with. The app is always down. Then once they completed it charged me $400! A rediculous amount. My fiancé was changed $300. I told my tax professional I should get a discount because of the lack of customer service and started to explain and she does “I understand, unless you would like to complain some more”! I work in a customer focused field and you do not talk to a customer like that. Her discount was making it the same amount of my fiancé and then a $40 discount for “piece of mind”. Literally says that on the receipt. My fiancé had a terrible experience with his tax professional from here as well.Do. Not. Come. Here.

Marina Diosdado Corral was extremely helpful. Marina helped me file my taxes in a timely manner and I was out within the hour of me being there. She answered my questions about 1099s and tax mailed documents and was understanding of the questions I asked her. Marina had such a professional and sociable demeanor. I had a great time filing my taxes with her help. I am most likely 10/10 going to come back next year and file with H&R block. Thank you Marina.
