After a couple of experiences now, I've felt I'm not super welcome there. I came in a couple times when they were new, but then not so much until this year.I happened to pop in during a week when local bookstores were sponsoring a scavenger hunt to visit different shops all over town. They wouldn't give me the stamp or sticker without a minimum purchase. I had made a purchase, but it just wasn't over 20 bucks and I just didn't have the time or interest to shop more. Same day, they seemed to forget to mention everyone who bought something got a popsicle. A friend asked my favorite flavor, and i had no idea what they were talking about.Recently, we had a holiday bookstore crawl, which I heard about at Capital Books. I went to get a kid gift and see what's up for the gifting season. I logged the minimum purchase for a stamp that time! But they didn't offer. I asked if I could have a cup for the (supposedly free) hot tea or cocoa. The staff person looked right through me. Ok whatever. As i was straightening up my coat and bag, I overheard the same worker, unprompted, tell the next customers about all the shop's cool perks and membership program- never offered to me! I would like to participate in something like that, but this shop probably won't be in my rotation anymore! But it's a nice spot, and I think the collection is thoughtful, and I'd like to help them stay open! So yeah... IDK. Medium grade at best.

One of my favorite bookstores in Sacramento! It's tucked away near Mickinely Park but worth checking out. They have a great selection of books and fun events for kids and adults. They also have fun accessories, cards, stickers, and other items that make great gifts. The staff is super friendly, and it's also dog-friendly.

Wonderful, wonderful bookshop. It’s my happy place - love to browse and shop for books, journals, cards, candles and puzzles. Always friendly and helpful. They will order any book they don’t have on hand - which is a great service.

Great little neighborhood bookstore. Very kid friendly with a little activity corner in the back. Kids can draw, play with Legos or magnetiles while you browse the small but well curated book offerings. Also nice to have an actual person there to ask for recommendations, which is something lost in these days of Amazon.

Oh how I wish to package up this gorgeous shop and its staff and bring you all back to Oak Park, IL with me (near Chicago)! I drove by last night after some grocery shopping and thought this was a children's bookstore, which would have been exciting enough. But they ALSO sell books for all ages, markers, decals, candles, small gifts... and popsicles!! Really good popsicles! The staff member at the counter was amazing, helpful, cheery, and just all around lovely. I scored a bunch of fab trans-positive decals for my laptop, water bottle, and car. I also got two really cool cards that contain flower seeds, so I am going to send those to my mother today as her two favorite things are 1. getting mail, 2. planting seeds in her garden! Love everything about East Village Bookshop, especially the Pride Month display, and I will definitely return next trip to Sacramento! 5 stars!

Say no to big box bookstores!East Village is a gem, cozy with lots of seating, free tea and coffee, and plenty of community activities. Plenty of things for kids to do, their section isn't an afterthough like it is in so many bookstores. Lots of East Sac vibes with neighbors walking their dogs and popping in after exercising at McKinley Park.

I came from out of town and was just looking for a book store to buy a magazine, even though they didn't carry magazines I was really impressed with the great customer service I received that I bought a book and they even wrapped it up for me. If I lived here I would definitely shop here for all my reading needs.

Lovely place, beautiful space inside. Welcoming to pets and all ages. So many to offer from a delicious cup of tea on the house while you browse through many fantastic new and old books. Enjoy the variety of puzzles, candles even some snacks(can’t go wrong with a popsicle). There are stickers, cards, crystals and unique trinkets. Stop by and support a local shop. Sabrina is one of the best people with perfect advice for any type of a book.

Love this store. Whenever I inquire about a book they don’t have, the staff always orders it. I only wish they stocked and highlighted more literary books by smaller, independent presses.
