Ordered 3 tree frogs off this website and had emailed back and forth before asking many questions as I am a new frog owner. They were incredibly helpful and patient with all of my questions and very specific requests and even received a free fourth frog upon delivery! 100% a satisfied customer and will definitely be ordering from this website again! The prices are extremely reasonable compared to other reptile stores and websites I have looked at as well.

We ordered a red eared slider turtle for our son for his birthday! He loves his little turtle, holds him all time, and named him Spike. He's perfect little turtle and we couldn't be happier.

I recently discovered BackWater Reptiles last week as I was on the hunt for the best place to purchase my future iguana and I am ABSOLUTELY Incredibly Delighted with this Company. They communicated with me every step of the way & they truly care about their animals. Today my new little blue axanthic iguana arrived very Happy and Healthy! I am always excited when I find a responsible Reptile company because it’s hard to find . . . I am sticking with this Amazing company from now on & I recommend you do too !! Purchased a male Florida Common Snapping Turtle from Backwater Reptiles and cannot be happier. The baby snapper is beautiful, healthy, and active. It took a week to received because they were out of stock but then they have a new batch ready to ship out a couple days later.The customer service is excellent. I recommended Backwater Reptiles to any pet owner.

Turtle arrived alive and starting eating almost immediately after putting him in the tank. Beautiful little turtle I have had him 24 hours and he's doing great. Only complaint is fedex was 2 days late but not the companies fault.

This company used to be great and then they've gone downhill in the past couple of years. I ordered 1000 large superworms on Saturday 8/19, they should of shipped Monday 8/21 with 2-3 day shipping. Here it is 8/28 and I've emailed them several days in a row after emailing on 8/23 and the representative said they'd check with the shipping department and let me know. Guess I'll need to dispute with my credit card company at this point and order from a competitor. Went with Backwater because I've ordered from them previously without a hitch but I guess like everything else customer service and shipping speeds went out the window when the Rona came around.

We placed an order on 8/15/23 for a soft shell turtle. The turtle was picked out by my 9yr old son who was spending his birthday money (to make matter worse).The funds were processed and cleared our account the following day for $75, to include overnight shipping. When we completed the order there was a popup screen stating our order was processed; however, we received no further information other than a shipping chart which stated we would receive the turtle the following Wednesday. The following Wednesday came and went with no turtle. We gave it until the end of the day Thursday in case there was a delay. Thursday came and went… no turtle… I called the company to check on the status of the order and the phone number went straight to voicemail, which was full… So I sent an email inquiring about the order. They did respond quickly and asked for our invoice number. The problem is, they never sent an invoice number, or a confirmation email. All we had was the pop up screen stating the order was complete. I informed them we never received any information following the order so we didn’t have an invoice number. They then stated the order must not have went through, so I sent them a screen shot of the funds clearing my account. They then asked for a transaction number, which I provided from the bank details. After receiving the transaction number they replied that I was “unable to provide them any solid information that the order did not fully process”. Mind you the whole time I am asking to speak to a human on the phone, which they refused to do. I reported the charge as fraudulent and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as they refused to provide any further assistance. The bottom line is… we placed an order, paid for the order, Backwater Reptiles accepted payment for the order, Backwater Reptiles failed to provide any additional information on our order, Backwater reptiles never fulfilled the order, Backwater reptiles refuses to speak to me or to help me figure this out. They basically told me too bad and sent me on my way without a refund or a turtle.

I ordered a male medium/large tiger salamander and he was shipped around 2pm on a Monday and arrived about 9:30am the next day. Packaging was great, tucked in a Tupperware container with wet moss and air holes (this was inside a box that directed which end is up and that there is a live animal inside). The gel ice pack that was shipped with him had begun to lose its cool so I’m glad he arrived when he did. I did try to contact ups and have him held at an ups center for pickup but wasn’t able to. Luckily he arrived on time and seems healthy so far. I’ll update if that changes. My only complaint is that he is a little small so he must be younger than anticipated which is fine. I do wish they could have told me which species of Tiger salamander he is and maybe provided some care tips or a personalized email of some kind. Luckily I know what I’m doing as far as care for these guys. I’ve read some bad reviews but also luckily for me (and the salamander) this experience went smooth for both of us.

Frogs arrived healthy and hungry! Due to UPS only the frogs arrived a day late and I was super worried. But they are fine and very active. They were packed very well and were still nice and moist when they arrived.One of them is a little lean for my tastes but, my current frog is a chonk so my perception could be a bit off. ?Customer service was responsive and helpful when my shipment was delayed.

These people have a mandarin rat snake marked available on their website. And they are listed as followed... Captive bread baby female captive red baby male captive bred adult female captive bred adult male. You can click on any of these none of them are grayed out marked unavailable. Yet they insisted and argued with me through email for the entire day seven emails. I even sent them a screenshot. And they are ignorant enough to keep arguing. I have never ever had a company argue with me before let alone to this extent. Especially when you're presenting them proof. They tell me oh we haven't had one of these snakes in over a year. I said well that's funny That's not what your website reflects. And the screenshot just wasn't good enough for them. Like I said total ignorance. Do not buy a snake from these people. All the other reviews that are negative are correct. And most of the reviews are negative. A 2.8 score out of 5 is absolutely horrendous. And for good reason. Stay away from backwater reptiles. They make you think they have things in stock when they don't. And then argue with you for days. You will get no customer service whatsoever from this company. Period

Ordered over $100 in feeder bugs for my beardie from Backwater Reptiles. Received part of the order (the cheapest part) in a box they were crawling out of and over half were dead. The bugs also reeked so bad I had to rinse them in a strainer and store them in the garage. The return address on the box was not from Backwater Reptiles so I'm guessing it was a drop shipment. I put in a refund request through my payment source (PayPal) because I never received the bugs that cost $80 and what I did receive was half dead. Backwater said they would refund if I canceled my claim in PayPal. I wasn't comfortable doing that because they were already coming across sketchy and if I did that I could not reopen the claim. It was denied by PayPal in the end because they had a tracking number from the seller that showed as delivered. No appeal option and never heard back from Backwater about the alleged offer to refund. Don't do it.

Is there an option for zero stars? I have never experienced worse customer service and I come from Nordstrom for over 10 years so my expectations are high but this business chose not help a customer with a simple fix. We ordered a small colored amazon tree boa. Small ranges from 14-24 inches and we received a large amazon tree boa 50 inches long. We of course contacted backwater and asked if we could get the small one we ordered. We wanted to see it grow, and so did our 13 year old. We understood their policy of not being able to return a live animal however we figured they would at least send us the small one we ordered. They asked for photos to show proof and we did, they acknowledge and apologized but still refused to send us a small one. They wanted us to pay for another snake when they messed up and should be fixing their problem! Yes they offered various options off but we didn't get what we ordered. It's an error, a mistake and that's ok- but fix it and make it right for the customer. They should have sent the small snake we order, bottom line and we would have been returning customers. That's how you build a business- taking care of the customer. The snake also didn't look healthy. He had old bite marks on his head that were dried out, and fresh ones which was upsetting. We unfortunately did not dig deep on reviews and if you do you will find multiple customers upset. We just don't want it to happen to anyone else. Photos attached for reference. Do your research when buying animals- we love animals and want the best for them and to be cared for by good people running good business. Stay away from this one!
