I have visited this bookshop several times over the years and always discovered delightful old treasures at reasonable prices. The atmosphere was akin to stepping into a beloved old book, with old carpets randomly laid throughout and a kind elderly lady seated behind a slightly chaotic desk surrounded by stacks of books waiting to be sorted. I cherished this bookshop, brimming with used books eager for new owners. Sadly, it pains me to say that this once truly unique establishment has undergone a modernization and turned into a mini Barnes & Noble.

Great little book store. Very clean and we'll kept even though it's been around for so long. Definitely worth a visit if you are a reader.

Came in a couple weeks ago, the atmosphere and ambiance is friendly and inviting. I like how they are cultivating a new look and style for the younger readers. It shows commitment to avid readers and a greater community of aspiring book lovers. As a teacher, seeing the appeal for young readers always receives my appreciation. Thank you guys.

I love this bookstore! It has recently been purchased and updated by an amazing family and is such a jewel in our Downtown. You will find all kinds of treasures and those who serve at the counter are so helpful in helping you to discover new treasures, authors and local gifts. You won't be disappointed! Support your local bookstores :) Located on Main Street, between 5th & 6th Streets in Downtown Riverside.

A lovely, community-focused, charming, independent and woman-owned bookstore that features pre-loved and collectible books with an infusion of new books as well. It’s been recently refreshed and the new owner has done a wonderful job honouring the long legacy of this great downtown Riverside gem, while giving it new life and connecting with various community initiatives. I love the Downtowne Bookstore and am so happy it is part of Riverside!!

Don’t listen to idiots on TikTok. This is a wonderful bookstore run by terrific people who obviously love books. Always buy independent; Jeff Bezos has enough money already.

It’s definitely not the same I miss the old bookstore but it’s nicely remolded. I use to be a regular for 6 years I’d go twice a week or even 3 times a week but ever since the owner changed I’ve been there twice. I guess you’re blaming the TikTok girl I hadn’t heard of it until today on your instagram post. I am sure you have new customers but a lot of the old customers like myself just stopped going because it’s definitely not the same has nothing to do with the TikTok girl.

A few weeks back my family was in the area and I asked if anyone would mind if we stopped in. The new owner was a lovely woman who was more than willing to listen and actually converse with a 9 and 11 year old not just patronize them with glib answers to their million questions. She was able to guide them to the books of interest and make suggestions based on the children’s selections. Both found books to their liking.
I myself found two great pulp novels in good shape and very fairly priced. I had shopped here previously and wanted to check for any pulp novels and didn’t know it was under new ownership when I walked in. The place felt just as cozy as before and doesn’t pretend to be Barns and Noble or anything else the negative reviews say.
I know some people have slammed them for having new books but every Indy bookstore I’ve ever been in has had a mix of book old and new. Cause guess what? This store supports local authors! Can you imagine being a local writer and the book store not stocking your book cause it’s new? I might not be able to get down there as much as I like but it’s always on my to go list when I’m in the area.

Over the years of stumbling in here on walks around the city, I've found some great books. Some very old and well-preserved books as well as hard to find titles. It's such a cozy place that is easy to miss if you're not looking for it but it's a perfect gem of a place. Local bookstores are vital to our communities and I'm always glad to wander in there to find a treasure.
